ORIGINAL: Edwird Actually, it was her expecting than human males were short of the mark if not working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week that tripped the breaker switch. Methinks my personal observation flew right over your head. The issue is not about whether a man works 24/7 to attain his goals. Salmon swimming upriver to spawn in their ancestral breeding grounds, exhaust themselves in order to propagate their species to the point of their imminent demise. (My father the naturalist designed fish ladders for hydroelectric dams so that fish could return to spawn in their natural habitat without disrupting the ecosystem.) All octopii are born orphans. A mother octopus literally exhausts herself to death after elaborately preparing a camouflaged sand nest in which to lay her eggs, never to behold the fruits of her labours. In Nature, such marvelous acts of self-sacrifice are instinctive. If this were not so, then the evolutionary model would fail. It is not logical for the male of the species (if self-preservation and individual survival of the fittest were overriding factors) to attract predators to himself with his dazzling display of colors and/or bright plumage, if not to divert attention away from the camouflaged female of the species. A male's bold stance and skills are the very attributes which attract the female of the species to mate and to partner up with him, for however long the duration. DreamLady
