Muslim Cult Law 101:

Invisible Taliban child brides, widows trapped as sex slaves

"He became my lawful husband and began to rape me and beat me every single day"

LONDON, Aug 23 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Fatima's Taliban husband was so controlling that he refused to allow her to bathe and threatened to burn her face if she dared wear make up, suspicious that his 12-year-old Afghan wife was trying to make herself attractive to other men.

He would not let her step outside their home in Afghanistan's western Farah Province, even when she fell sick, and beat her for burning her hand baking bread, complaining that her mother had taught her nothing to justify the dowry he paid.

"My father sold me to a man at a time when I didn't know anything about the responsibilities of marriage," she told the Thomson Reuters Foundation in a phone interview from the capital, Kabul, where she and her young daughter are hiding.

"He became my lawful husband and began to rape me and beat me every single day for not consenting (to sex)," said the 18-year-old, who would not give her full name.

Child and forced marriage are outlawed but remain common in Afghanistan, particularly among poor families eager for dowries.

Half of all girls are married by the age of 15.

Among the most invisible victims are the wives of Islamist Taliban hardliners who, when in power, barred women from education and most work and ordered them to wear burqas outside the home, before being overthrown in 2001 by U.S.-led forces.

"Being family members of the most dangerous and ruthless fighters who have plenty of enemies among the people makes it difficult for these women," said Shukria Barakzai, a parliamentarian and women's rights campaigner.

"They are treated as sex slaves and left completely helpless."

Although I don't doubt the concept of the report. It's sounds a little fishy that a 12-year old tribal girl is wearing makeup. Is the "Western" culture that deeply entrenched?

It's heart breaking to read reports like this. Such stories abound in many Third World countries. For example Bosco's good mates in Saudi Arabia operate some of the world's worst anti-women laws, as well as being one of the world's worst human rights abusers. The Saudis enforce their anti-women laws rigidly and strictly without a peep of dissent from Bosco.

So I wonder why this particular harrowing tale appeals to Bosco so much that he chose to post it here. Bosco has never shown any interest in furthering the status of women in the West. But when a Muslim country is involved he suddenly morphs into a militant feminist.

So is this a case of Bosco's inner feminist asserting itself, or is it a case of Bosco cynically exploiting the appalling position of women in Afghanistan to promote his rampant Islamophobia? You choose ...

I guess it's not as heart breaking as you suggest, but rather a vehicle for you to, off topic, try and ridicule someone. While I'm aware you, as well as many lefties, are more emotionally, rather than rationally, centered, you could have stayed on topic and appeared actually concerned had you stopped after your first two sentences.

Why are you joining tweak in hijacking the topic and attacking people instead of making reasonable comments? Is the topic not interesting or powerful enough for you to put away your bile and discuss it?

It was Bosco who chose to politicise this appalling story when he put "Muslim Cult Law 101" at the head of his post. Muslim-bashing is the take on this awful story Bosco wants to promote, not the repulsive abuse she has been subjected to.

Bosco chose not to add any further comment of his own, apparently content to copy and paste the story verbatim from its source. The only comment he saw fit to add was to emphasis the Muslim aspect of the story, not the horrible circumstances the girl faced. The absence of any personal comment makes it difficult to avoid concluding that his primary motivation was Islam- and Taliban-bashing.

Bosco's posting history on women's issues is so woeful that I cannot recall a single instance of him being on the right side in any discussion of women's issues in the West. Put very simply. Bosco has zero credibility on womens issues. Adding those two facts together points directly to the conclusion that Bosco is cynically using this awful story as a weapon to advance his own political stance and bigotry. Unless he can supply a convincing explanation of why he chooses to oppose or ignore women's issues in the West but get all hot and bothered as soon as a Muslim angle is included, I see no reason why anyone should accept his sincerity on this matter.

The circumstances this poor girl has been forced to endure are harrowing, appalling. But for some Westerner to cynically use her rape and abuse as a vehicle to promote his own bigotry is contemptible. utterly indefensible.

FR

It's sad that it's so difficult to get rid of Taliban.

I read an article today that, despite US have maybe already killed like 60,000 Taliban, but they keep growing.

And worst of all, trying to rebuilt a Taliban-Free Afghanistan was extremely difficult because, they realise most of the qualified local Afghans are Taliban.

Not all Talibans are soldiers. Many ordinary Taliban are doing normal jobs, but supporting the Taliban regime.

It's pretty hard to change a whole country where it's too entrenched.

I think US is wasting their money helping this country. It's hopeless.

They have spent 1 billion dollars on Afghanistan, trying to improve the country. Stupid waste of money since no progress at all. Can't get the locals to co-operate as many are still loyal Taliban.

So...you decided to troll and derail the tread and attack a person instead of speaking about the "horrors". This is your justification. Okay.

Leftists have such shallow minds that such debate fallacies are all to often literally all they've got in defense of their insane policies and positions

have to do with the topic?
Ive been told more than once by many people to butt out of the US business, but now I should be more concerned about an issue that is world wide

but what have you done about the problem of child brides? child abuse? and murder in your own country? beyond insist its a mooselamb only problem?
and blame, deny and deflect.

What human rights groups do you belong to???
WHat anti child abuse groups do you get involved with.
If you are just bitching and making it a single religions ugliness, you are part of the problem.
