This may not be such a good idea.

not so much....shudder...altho, ...isnt there someone somewhere doing something for spiders and skin growth ?
aaaah here they are...

in light of the sources, Im not claiming its true.
I dont mind webs, its the spiders I have trouble with and the possibilities for unpleasant people to make nefarious projects...
cool tho

Mental note:

Lucy, the evil one trying to devest the world of paranoid paramilitary gun loving conspiracy theorists is not too keen on spiders, have genetic engineering labs develop a spider that can withstand cold with a 12 foot leg span....
Also inquire as to the possibility that this new species could spin webs of cherry cotton candy....

Clearly there is a need for this sort of thing. After all we know that current ropes are inadequate, and parachutes always fail because nylon used in them is just not up to the job, even though it has only worked for 40 years or so.

IMO this seems like one of those research projects designed to look good on paper, but with the real intent being to suck up a whole lot of research funding and thereby make the lives of a small group of researchers much more comfortable.

Actually, spider silk is the strongest natural filament, but cannot be synthesized in a lab, or utilized by humans in its natural state.

Over the years, they have tried to add a gene to lab goats so that their milk could be used to make spider silk, to limited success, among other things.

The next strongest natural filament is silk, which is gained by boiling un opened silkworm cocoons, which we duplicated with nylon that has a nasty tendency to be highly flammable, unlike natural silk.

However, I do remember a lecture I attended on genetic engineering and species modification that was humorous'

Theoretically, there are two ways to to get spider silk in both quantity and size we need.

The first is to cross breed large spiders to get bigger spiders and keep this up until we have spiders the size of cows which would spin silk in a size we could use to make other products.

Or we could just throw genes into the code until we get what we want for the same result.

The problem is that we would also have to create insects that spiders eat of a similar size.

And I have not addressed the problems that such creatures would have on those afraid of spiders.

I know about the tensile properties of silk, parachutes used to be silk in their early days, but the silk was not durable and failed frequently, which is why they are nylon now.
But if you really need a fiber with the highest level of tensile strength then rather than breeding giant spiders and feeding them graphene chow, we need to put up an orbital factory to create monofilament diamonds in zero gravity.
A thread a single molecule wide could lift tons. Of course being only the width of a single molecule and having more tensile strength than anything, it would cleanly slice right through anything you tried to lift with it, including your lifting hand. So there would be some kinks to work out there too.

Monster movies look really wrong with CGI effects don't they?

Usually I have the same complaint, but one particular movie monster was done very well (maybe if you have high quality HD the CGI it might be detectable, but barely). It's a Korean movie called "The Host" (starring Song Kang-Ho, who also starred in "Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance"). The creature is quite realistic and definitely makes you never want to go near a rain-swollen river ever again. It's actually on Netflix right now.

I'm not sitting through another subtitled flick with a CGI monster after watching Shin Godzilla. I don't care about most of the rest of the film, but Godzilla is not a fucking Pokemon gents!
I mean seriously, WTF were they thinking? How in Chirst's name could they make a Godzilla film where the big guy looks naffer than he does in Son Of Godzilla or Godzilla vs The Flying TurdSmog Monster in this day and age?
Sorry. (Absolutely there's some great Korean horror flicks at the moment though: Thirst isn't far off a masterpiece, imo.)

Well, the guy who always played Godzilla passed away not long ago, so what could they do but have Pokemon fill in? 😊

You'll never fold up Godzilla to fit in a golfball...
(I did love that the sumotori in the costume in the classic films got some very respectful obituaries when he passed, though. It's great that nobody was sneering in print about him or the films.)

Yes, it was nice that people showed him respect. He did bring a lot to most of our childhoods.

Much as the original Godzilla didn't look much like any known dinosaur, I was disappointed by the CGI version in the Mathew Broderick remake, I was hoping for an improved version of the original rubber suit Godzilla.

I think they did make a few like that back in the '90s, but I haven't seen any of those yet. Supposedly it was quite a serious attempt at a relaunch, but they pulled the plug on those films when the Broderick one went into production...

I declare a state of felch hobgoblin pantaloons - that should confuse most of you

I have spent the last three days sitting here and taping myself with that tape of silver whatsitcalled again, and staring into empty space thinking Christ is this it!

Have I ever told the story I went to the local shop with an apple sticker stuck on my forehead?

Whats that silver tape called again as mythbuster's built a boat and bridge out of it?

Duct tape? I think one of the catalogues was selling a wallet made out of the stuff at one point...

Duct tape is what's used to wrap around joints in HVAC installations.

The far classier gaffer tape, with matte black fine-course backing, is what's used in stage work and on film stages for all purposes.

Well, when you get your start in the venture by way of fame in taking a day off from High School, (Ferris Beuller's Day Off) it tends to stick.
Inconsequential.

So as long as we're into comic book characters, how come no one has taken notice in the discussion (thusfar) of one of the best music themes for one of these shows putting comic book to TV, and best performance of such in any case?
