Power was just restored here. Cell towers are still iffy. Normalcy is slowly returning.

I made it through OK, only losing a few trees. One landed on my car, but no damage, aside from hellacious scrapes in the paint job.

And yes, it was one of my trees that knocked out power in the neighborhood. But in my defense, the power company had already tagged it (and several others) for removal, but didn't bother to cut it. And I'm really glad I slept through the neighbors sawing it up to get it out of the road.

Yes, we do, Butch. But only when notified and led by our federal government and by our news media. Notice that in the past two weeks not only were we silent on the 1200 who died in Southwest Asia, but hardly a word was said about the tragedy of the earthquake in Mexico. Granted that we were preoccupied with our own major problems and we certainly must take care of our own first but silence on the tragedies in South West Asia and in Mexico has been deafening.

Glad you came out of this with only minor damage.
Florida and Texas continue to regroup and rebuild.

I am a person of color, and I started this thread, because I am a United States citizen and I felt like starting this thread.
I am not going to start threads on every disaster that occurs in the world, I am hoping that one of the people moaning about the LACK of threads about other world disasters, will start threads on them.

The fact that people learned and safety has become a feature for oft hit areas is a good thing, less people dying is a good thing.

We have the technology.

I'm buying electric DUMP trucks in February.

They carry 78% the load that my gas and diesel trucks carried before.

They cost 3.77 times what the same gas/diesel powered vehicles did.

It's a start.
