We did ok. Got someone's roof shingles and some branches in our yard. But power and cable are on. They only went off temporarily.

Lost a trash can.

Thank goodness you are one of the lucky ones, and still have power.
Many will not have power for WEEKS.

Let me ask you this: was that trash can round, with a big hole at the top, and made of hard plastic? I found one over here in Fort Lauderdale with your initials on it, RS. Of course that may just be coincidence. Do you use it for your dungeon games somehow? If you want it back send me a stamped, self-addressed envelope big enough to hold the can, and I will gladly return it to you. Just address it to vincentML, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The postal inspectors are very aware of my incoming mail.

By all means, stay safe!!

The other Keys are pretty bad. Boats not in driveway, but smashed into house caving it in. The fish freezes (the ones you keep outside to store your catch) have been washed away by the surge and they are piled up on the highways.

Thanks for your good wishes. Life is good when you go through 2 tornadoes and a hurricane, find roofing shingles in the yard and they're not yours.

We survived a historically large, record breaking hurricane and not one, but 2 tornadoes. And all I got was someone's roofing shingles in my yard to show for it.

Hurricane winds were 107 mph as measured by the weather monitoring station by our house. In our neighborhood we lost 4 fences and TONS of tree limbs. There are 5 foot high piles of debris pilled all over the neighborhood. The retention pond is overflowed and storm ditches have water in them. But we are no worse for the wear.

So, why havent you got everything cleaned up, tree limbs put back on the trees, pumped the retention pond and fed the alligators?

Seriously though, glad you made it through okay.

Friends on Key West said it looks bad on the tv but most of it is cosmetic, the real pounding was some ways up the keys, where another friend is trying to find out if he can claim the rather large boat he found in his drive way as salvage, as well as how the boat got to his drive way in the first place since it was moored behind his house.

He had a couple of windows damaged, lost some shingles but his neighbor's house looks like a total write off, and it was built recently to the new codes, and he lost both his long boards.

FYI, the six friends of mine that stayed on the keys are members of the Monroe county sheriff department, not like they had a lot of choice in the matter.

Hope all other states can learn from florida on how to prepare properly.

Good on Jeb, he doesn't seem to be getting much credit in the media. He may be low energy, but he gets things done.

Not "fish freezes" . . . fish freezers. There are tons of freezers all lined up in a row from where the surge dumped them. Most people that live in the keys, live the keys lifestyle which includes fishing. There houses are elevated on stilts so it's like a huge open air garage under the house. A great many keep a freezer under their house to store their catch in.

One guy was on the news. He ran a charter fishing service and flew back in a chopper to asses the damage. He got to his house with the reporter in tow. The camera pans around under his stilt house and shows a couple freezers, bunch of huge tackle boxes, pier boxes and lawn furniture scattered around. All in all, it doesn't look like any damage. Just a little messy from being pushed by the surge. The guy says he can't believe how bad it is and how everything changed. The reporter questions him, "what do you mean, it doesn't look that bad". He says, "none of this is my stuff."

Whew... my nine house guests that came in while the Hurricane blew through have headed home. It was fun but I'm glad the crowded house if empty again.

It was interesting that there was a curfew on I10 and I95 around Jacksonville stopping most traffic between 10pm and 6am. I guess the police keeping things organized needed to get some sleep too.

I am glad you all weathered the storm safely and that your house has returned to normal.

strongest on record I do believe

We lost power at about 11:30PM Sunday night, and got it restored Wednesday by 10PM. I love my power company, SECO. Anyone I know that has Duke Energy is still out.

No damage to the house at all, but we lost a couple of trees. I'm gonna have to buy a chainsaw come payday.

We are with Duke Energy, but never lost power for more than a few minutes. We were very lucky, we still have power. Literally 1 block away, on the other side of the highway, most of their county was without power for over a week. We had the new storm proof telephone poles, they didn’t.

A lot of places in Florida still do not have power. The mail has only been running for a couple of days. Both local post offices had been closed due to lack of power. Yesterday I received a letter from Tampa that was mailed 10 days ago. Normally it takes 1 day.

I don’t think national news has the minor details about Florida’s damage. It has been a week and a day since hurricane Irma left Florida. Yet today they are still evacuating even more areas of Florida because of flooding. Rivers and estuaries are overflowing the banks because of the water left by the hurricane. The water levels are expected to peak tomorrow and then begin receding.
