Before all you drum beaters go any further with your jingoistic calls to wipe North Korea off the map, how many of you have ever done military service ? Come on now , own up. Of that number , how many saw combat ? Not so many huh ? Of the few left, how many of you saw more than say 20+ dead bodies ( with combat related wounds or wounds caused by military action of any sort ) at any one time ? Of those few ( if any) that are left, how many of you are going to volunteer for the body-clearing and grave-digging detail in North Korea if it SHOULD get greased ? None huh ? Any of you volunteering for similar duties in your own country if even ONE of Kim's rockets SHOULD get through ?

Hand up through all of that, but if nukes are being tossed the bodies will be too radioactive to pick up for awhile. Not to worry though, they won't rot as the radiation will have also killed off all the bacteria that causes flesh to break down. Any bodies left will just mummify in place. There won't be any animals left to disturb them either. There won't be a need for cleanup as the whole area will be too hot to reoccupy for a long time.

^ This.

Way back in Desert Storm, when people were all gung-ho, I noticed that, in interviews with command officers, they were ready to do their job, but none of them were cheering. These were guys who understood what war meant, and they were definitely not excited about doing it again.

Trump: US would destroy North Korea if forced to defend itself
US President Donald Trump has told the UN General Assembly that America would destroy North Korea if forced to defend itself or its allies.
In his debut speech, he mocked North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-un, saying: "Rocket man is on a suicide mission."

There's a big difference between "Should the US destroy North Korea?" and "Should the US destroy North Korea if forced to defend itself?"

And that's without even getting into "What might be the consequences of America destroying North Korea for reasons that the Chinese find unconvincing?"

As do I. But we have two dubious personalities nutters engaged in a game of chicken, one-up-man-ship, brinkmanship & nationalism.

Did you ever read this story?
Stanislav Petrov, who averted possible nuclear war, dies at 77

A former Soviet military officer credited with averting a possible nuclear disaster at the peak of the Cold War has died at the age of 77.

Stanislav Petrov was on duty at a Russian nuclear early warning centre in 1983 when computers wrongly detected incoming missiles from the US.

He took the decision that they were a false alarm and did not report them to his superiors.
His actions, which came to light years later, possibly prevented nuclear war.

Petrov died at his home in Moscow in May but his death has only now been made public.
In an interview with the BBC in 2013, Petrov told how he had received computer readouts in the early hours of the morning of 26 September 1983 suggesting several US missiles had been launched.

NotYourDom -> RE: Should The US destroy North Korea (9/20/2017 8:49:08 AM)

Has anybody looked at a map? Nuclear destruction of all of North Korea could have fall out landing in China and Russia with the proper wind currents. Trump's rhetoric might be just to see if one of them will go in and take him out before it gets to nuclear war.

JVoV -> RE: Should The US destroy North Korea (9/20/2017 1:56:14 PM)

I don't believe nuclear weapons will be necessary.

A strategic strike of military & weapons buildings should be sufficient. But I don't think we can continue ignoring the threat.

Do I get this straight? You don't think that we should use nukes even if N Korea does?
That has to be wrong since you would be one of the first to yell we should quit do to the casualties
we are taking.

JVoV -> RE: Should The US destroy North Korea (9/20/2017 2:21:34 PM)

KJU reminds me of the kid in A Christmas Story. I honestly think he'll shoot his eye out.

I also never said we needed to wait for an attack.

So start a conventional war and not only give him an excuse to nuke us but give others an excuse to support him Besides If we attacked first the next day there would be an
impeachment move.

JVoV -> RE: Should The US destroy North Korea (9/20/2017 2:30:03 PM)

All of our favorite people to bomb are dead. Khadafi, Saddam...

The casualties we had in Iraq were strictly because of a lack of any semblance of a plan as to what would happen after we toppled the government, and even Condi has said that. And I respect Condi.

So if we send troops, there damn well better be a plan. But I'm ok with carpet bombing the fucker.

Reagan, HW, Dubbya, Obama were never impeached, though all gave the order to attack sovereign nations. Clinton was, but not for that, and he did too.

I'm sure we don't know exactly how much of a threat KJU is yet. Hopefully Trump's advisers actually do, and have a nonnuclear solution.

I think that was pretty clever of Trump to call him that... lol

I found it funny, too. However, I don't know that he was the one that decided on the name. It was likely a staffer, imo.

More likely a MI5 code name.

[:D] [:D] [:D]

Okay, if that's the case, I can see Trump using it, and all the people at MI5 collectively slapping their heads now that Trump outed a codename.

Actually articles of impeachment were filed against the 2nd Bush and he wasn't hated half as much as Trump is.
Just look at the OP

JVoV -> RE: Should The US destroy North Korea (9/20/2017 5:14:09 PM)

Nothing came of any of that, so it's less than a footnote in history.

Now, if you don't feel that North Korea is provoking us, and threatening our safety, then there's nothing to worry about.

I haven't found a single word of Trump's UN speech that I disagree with. But if we fire on NK, will China or Russia be certain of the trajectory?
