North Korean Businesses In The Country To Close
North Korea has 120 days from September 11th to close.

The Chinese government has dramatically stepped up its pressure against North Korea.

On Thursday, China ordered all North Korean-owned businesses within the country to close. The move is in accordance with the latest United Nations sanctions against North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

According to China’s Ministry of Commerce, all North Korean business business in the country must cease within 120 days of September 11 — the date when the U.N. Security Council’s latest sanctions were passed.

This gives North Korean-owned businesses until January to close up shop.

The North Korean government currently administers restaurants and other businesses projects in China. The country also allows laborers to cross the border and work in Chinese factories.

The move to punish the North Korean government is just the latest in a string of U.N. sanctions that Beijing has agreed to go along

China announced Saturday it would be cutting off gas and limiting exports of refined petroleum products by January — a devastating blow to the North Korean economy given China is, by far, its largest provider of energy.

These actions also follow official bans on North Korean seafood, iron, coal, lead and lead ore imports enacted since September.

President Donald Trump praised China for ordering North Korean businesses in the country to shut down.

“I applaud China’s latest action to to restrict its trade with North Korea. And in particular I applaud China for breaking off all banking relationships with North Korea, something that people would have thought unthinkable even two months ago,” he said Thursday.

Many said China’s move was thanks to the pressure Trump applied on the nation.

China is a member of the U.N. Security Council with veto power, and in the past has acted as a diplomatic protector to North Korea.

But Beijing, long considered North Korea’s biggest ally on the world stage, has increasingly stood behind U.N. sanctions issued against Kim and his government.

The U.N. has enacted numerous economic sanctions over the years, but North Korea, known widely as “Hermit Kingdom,” has been able to carry on due to its self-inflicted isolation. China, however, is the country’s largest trading partner. Economic sanctions by its northern neighbor dramatically affect revenue into the nation.

Despite international orders to stop, Kim has continued to develop his nuclear and missile program.

Along with advancing his missile technology, Kim has provoked the United States and nearby countries with threats of attack and shows of force. Over the summer, Kim threatened to nuke the American territory of Guam and fired a missile near Japan.

In the face of mounting international pressure, North Korea’s only ally has dramatically increased its cooperation regarding sanctions.

However, China is still reluctant to enact strikingly devastating sanctions as it does not want to see a collapse of the North Korean government.

I know left leaning folks may not appreciate this feat. But this is a feat! Trump again making the impossible possible.

It certainly is.

Yeah, the nuclear testing had absolutely nothing to do with it.
It was the magic of Trump!

I applaud the Chinese for these moves but reserve judgment on just how much Trump had to do with it.

How's this ? I heard many repubs say that the economic rebound since TARP was despite Obama's bad policy moves, failing of course to point any of them out. US oil production at or near all time highs, new DOW highs, all...despite Obama's terrible policies. Again failing to point any of them out.

So this move by the Chinese just as easily could be despite Trump policy moves or even to serve what they feel is in their own best interest.

The proper title for this OP should have been...the UN gets China's support regarding North Korea

Even more accurately the title could have read 'Despite Trump, the UN gets China's support regarding North Korea'.

Since taking office, Trump has offended allies such as Australia and Mexico, alienated practically all the Europeans, and caused the power and prestige of the US to take a nosedive. It is impossible to identify a single diplomatic success generated by Trump.

Regarding Korea, the Chinese have no desire to have a nuclear armed North Korea on its doorstep, as they have made clear to KJU repeatedly. But the Chinese (and the Russians that Trump holds in such high regard) have consistently demanded that the US and Trump in particular tone down his inflammatory rhetoric which they feel only heightens tensions between NK and the rest of the world, thereby diminishing the chances of a peaceful resolution.

At the UN, China really had no choice but to agree to increased sanctions. KJU was openly defying the UN Security Council by new tests and missile launches. Previously China had allowed UN sanctions against NK in response to previous NK provocations, so this move by China is just the latest in a series of similar steps and is consistent with their previous positions on NK.

It is hilarious to see Trump's supporters, so desperate to claim a 'triumph' of any kind by the hapless bumbling Trump, try to turn this into a diplomatic 'triumph' for Trump. The Chinese move is nothing of the sort.

China doesn't want a war on their border and they know the best way to avoid it is to bitchslap fat boy.

heavyblinker -> RE: Trump gets China's support regarding North Korea (9/29/2017 7:44:25 AM)

Well, one does wonder just how much Trump's 'rhetoric' has actually been the reason for all of the nuclear testing.
North Korea has a habit of testing American presidents and this is probably Trump's test... and this is Kim's response.

So if you accept that he is to blame, which he probably is, then he is also indirectly responsible for China's decision here.

The whole 'madman theory' thing is about winning at any cost, and things like putting America or its allies in East Asia at risk for a nuclear attack isn't off the table.

MasterObsidiann -> RE: Trump gets China's support regarding North Korea (9/29/2017 8:04:41 AM)

Trump is crazy enough to launch and the world knows that. Whether his chain of command would follow is a more difficult question, or perhaps they would invoke the 25th.

I have no time for North Korea therefore the problem must be dealt with now. I am actually in an unheralded state of rare agreement with President Trump.

China is actually following UN directives not American directives.

North Korea will not stop developing. They chose that path a long time ago and stuck up a middle finger to everyone since they made that choice and mock them openly on the world stage.

True. But their influence wanes.

So you think that this is all because of Trump, and the UN probably would have behaved differently regarding nuclear tests and charged rhetoric from an isolated rogue nation if it wasn't for his inspiring leadership?

The US is in the international doghouse because of Trump... the US used to be counted on for leadership but it's simply not the case anymore.
The UN is following the examples set by previous postwar presidents and other world leaders... it has zilch to do with Trump.

I suspect the argument being made is....all things are indeed equal over the last 8+ years....one leader actually did something (or is about to).

One leader did...Clinton. The next 'leader' caused it all to end and now we are here. And if I may be so bold and I am, this 'leader'...has done nothing but talk so far. What [he] is about to do, is speculative at best.

Learn to spell. Learn to read.

'The UN" and 'Trump" are spelled differently.

Please don't tell me you're allowed to teach kids.

China and Russia are permanent members of the UN Security Council, whose decision they fhve chosen to act in accordance.

Yes, he put the US and its allies at greater risk of a nuclear attack.
Situations like that inspire co-operation I guess.

They will also have to come together and figure out how to stop Trump from needlessly risking so many lives.
