Me included....

Every one of us (certainly more than a few....myself included)...have been complaining about the NFL...."the Knee"...and myriad other topics....health care, taxes....

There's a far bigger issue....

If those of us that would prefer those in the NFL to "stand".....really believe that...then, we believe that these men and women deserve our respect and...the best we can offer...but...they aren't getting that.

The V.A. is providing them an opportunity for health care that....at best...allows them to get a flu shot with a 6 week advance notice.

WALGREENS doesn't even require that.

THAT's where we should exclaim our angst....not at the NFL.

I'll shortly provide names and addresses wherein which you can express your displeasure.

(I hope you do).

There is no Law that requires anyone to stand during the national anthem.

United States Code, 36 U.S.C. § 301, states that during a rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart; Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present and not in uniform may render the military salute; men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed. Military law requires all vehicles on the installation to stop when the song is played and all individuals outside to stand at attention and face the direction of the music and either salute, in uniform, or place the right hand over the heart, if out of uniform. A law passed in 2008 allows military veterans to salute out of uniform, as well.

Even if there was a law it would clearly infringe their first amendment rights and therefore not stand up to any scrutiny. Hence the word "should" and not Must/b]

Yeah, we all tend to forget about the vets as soon as they take off the uniform.

WhoreMods -> RE: We're all wrong.... (10/5/2017 11:34:08 AM)

I'd always thought that part of what the vets who defended your country (rather than the interests of oil companies) were guarding was the right of your country's citizens to make non-violent protests, however pathetic, childish and attention seeking those might happen to be.
Dead right on the rest, though.

DesFIP -> RE: We're all wrong.... (10/5/2017 11:58:08 AM)

Have you read the anthem? Because the third stanza says plainly that free blacks should be murdered. I see nothing worthwhile in that nor in anyone who holds that belief nor do I believe I should be seen as supporting it by not objecting to it.

And treatment of vets is a totally different subject than having it be open season on anyone who isn’t white skinned. You shouldn’t say black lives won’t matter just because the VA has a waiting list for treatment.

It's news to me I said any such thing, but whatever.

Veterans and the V.A.

The Veterans Administration runs an annual "Flu Clinic" where you can get a free flu shot etc. Outside of the scheduled flu clinic; many of the smaller V.A. clinics don't keep a supply of vaccines on hand and it can take up to six weeks to get some depending on the stock status with the regional V.A. Pharmacy.

On the other hand, six weeks sounds about right for the V.A. to get an appointment to see your primary care provider. And, you can get no services until after seeing a primary care provider.

Many consider the V.A. Medical System an example of what government run health care would be like under U.S. Federal Government administration. No wonder universal health care is such a hard sell to the U.S. voters.

Sad (on the former).

Scary (because....that IS where we're going) on the latter.
