I'm not going to argue that a lot of people didn't choose Obama for the wrong reasons.
He was still a good president, though.
Trump is already easily the least competent, most absurdly unfit person ever to hold that post.
When we get to the point where his policies actually begin to have a noticeable effect (beyond the already present fear, despair, division, hatred and betrayal of western values), you will understand this.
As it turns out, with the advent of cable new channels the electorate was well informed, better than ever.
President Obama will be remembered for his expansion of hand outs, suggesting we can "keep our doctors" under the health care plan his attack dog wanted to pass "so we can read it" as well as the failed "shovel ready" projects and suggesting to Putin that he must wait for Obama's second term before President Obama does whatever Putin wanted him to do. Anything else, oh yes, paying Iran to stop their nuclear program and the failed "red line in the sand" he drew to pretend he was forcefully dealing with Syria's killing of civilians in rebel held territory.
Misinformed doesn't mean you are well-informed.
The advent of cable news means people get to live in their echo chambers and hear what they like hearing without being challenged.
People who voted for Trump voted because they liked what he was saying, not because they understood that it couldn't be done without destroying the entire global economy, because it was the right thing to do, or because they realized he was full of shit, which he is.
Seriously, how the fuck could people convince themselves that a vulgar, racist, sexist boor of a reality TV host/real estate salesman with ties to the mob and blatant connections to money laundering for the Russian mafia/oligarchs would know how to lead the country better than a skilled politician with decades of experience?
If it was about being qualified and suited to the job as opposed to winning a popularity contest where the judges are a bunch of morons, it wouldn't have even been close.
The Russians have at least convinced me that this voting thing really isn't the way it ought to be done in the future, so mission accomplished on that front.
I honestly don't know how anyone who voted for Trump, or even didn't vote for Hillary... can't be feeling deep pangs of remorse right now.
Every single day he embarrasses the country in new ways.
Americans are more of a laughing stock than they have ever been before, and I am saying this as someone who has travelled a lot and heard what people in other countries think of Americans.
And if you aren't embarrassed, that probably means you are also a moral and intellectual infant who is happy that someone just like you is finally getting some power.
Or you're just not paying attention or something.
