On the day before leaving office in January 2001, President Clinton agreed to a five-year suspension of his Arkansas law license as part of an agreement with the independent counsel[clarification needed] to end the investigation.[29] Clinton was automatically suspended from the United States Supreme Court bar as a result of his law license suspension. However, as is customary, he was allowed 40 days to appeal an otherwise-automatic disbarment. The former President resigned from the Supreme Court bar during the 40 day appeals period. Suspension isn't quite the same as being disbarred.

As Hillary had already been elected to the Senate seat in New York by this time, I think it was fairly apparent that the Clintons had no intentions of returning to Arkansas. It is fairly ironic that the original reason for having a Special Prosecutor was the Whitewater thing, and somehow it devolved into a huge sex scandal, and lasted far longer than it ever was intended to. And I honestly have no idea why the judge in the Paula Jones case would allow the Lewinsky affair to be mentioned in the trial at all.
