As a form of punishment and due to extremely limited resources, the NHS is exploring extreme cost cutting measures

Both are in financial difficulty, and between them seeking to save £68m during this financial year.

The Key Part is NO MONEY to afford the free medical care! So they need to cut corners. And the first ones to face the Axe are obese people and smokers.

I think the reality is, Free Healthcare is expensive. Every country is facing an aging population.

This means, less young people working to support all the free health care of the older people.

That's why I always feel, UNLESS they figure out how to fix the aging population problem and have more youth replacing the old.

Free Healthcare can only get worst and worst for most countries in trying to afford it.

Hmm. . . isn't smoking an appetite suppressant?

Has anyone noticed that the more smoking is being discouraged, the greater the obesity problem becomes?

Since I've seen too many obese smoking people. I don't think there is any correlation.

Obesity is a genetic problem. There are skinny fat people who seriously can get away with anything. In Asia, you see this prominently. Skinny people getting diabetes, heart attack. Clogged arteries from unhealthy food, but within underweight to healthy BMI range. My dad is like in his late 60's, 6ft and only 160lbs, in his youth, he is even skinner at 140lbs, he was underweight most of his life. Very slim. No belly at all. But his diet is fried chicken and pizza and coke(full sugar). He has high cholesterol/high blood pressure and high risk of heart attack.

But he is lean, and slim, and no belly all his life. And he doesn't smoke. To be fair, he doesn't take alcohol either. But deep fried food is his number 1 favourite. And his coke consumption is about 6 cups a day. Coke practically replaces water.

And when I went South Africa and saw African women, the ones that live very poor in mud and rocks houses, being like morbidly obese, yet they walk marathon distances everyday, with weight as they carry things in a basket on their heads. It's so obviously genetic. Poor them.

And when socialists impose draconian measures to force lifestyle choices on their victims, results can and do backfire. Non-smokers live longer and are often a drain on society with all of their old-age illnesses such as Alzheimer's, for example

I guess both of you are smokers?

I think perhaps what is happening is, in the past when smoking wasn't crack down. Many people smoked to deal with stress. Now they ban smoking everywhere. People rely more on food to deal with stress. So either they die from lung cancer, or they die from bad diet problems. Smoking causes diabetes too apparently.

So I guess, both are people who create more health problems.

But end of the day, free healthcare is not realistic in the long run. Discriminating against smokers (who are basically like drug addicts, it's an addiction that's why they can't quit) and obese people (who obviously have a mental eating disorder or some other health issues), is like discriminating against people who are sick and needs help.

They need some kind of co-pay system to help elevate the lack of funds.

No it isn't, it's just a lot more convenient for people in your country to lambast than the genuinely socialistic medical set up in Cuba.
