Is anyone else noticing that the location listed for people frequently does not match the distance? It can say NYC, then tell me they are 43 miles away. Conversely, they can list Dallas as their location, but they are supposedly 3000 miles from me. At firat, I thought it was just all of the fakes on this site, but now I'm starting to question that. Is it the site that is screwing up, or scammers? Does anyone know? Opinions?

There have been problems with the distance thing for years. For example, Gary and I live in the same city but are listed as being 1032 miles apart.

It's been that way for years.

I don't know if this is still correct but here's how it used to work for people in the USA.

The 'distance from you' feature doesn't go by the city and state that somebody types in under the create/edit profile screen. It's actually under the My Account screen for whatever the person has listed for their zip code. If the person has not put in their correct zip code, the distance features will default to whatever location corresponds to whatever zip code they have listed under their account.

Most people who don't frequent the forums aren't aware of this, so if they put in an incorrect zip code when joining or have moved since they first created their account, their location for any of the distance features won't be where they actually live. This can be a very useful tool for those who don't want to receive emails from everybody in close proximity to their actual location, don't want to be on the 'newest local users' list for their actual area, or brought up in searches based on distance. It's a great way for a person to hide their real location from other users.

Distance thing works for me. I can always tell the Philippine findoms as they are always 2000+ miles from me. Interestingly though, no distance is given on the German profiles.

Agreed that CS uses your zip code and not city/state for the distance calculation at least in the USA
