Anyone else watching this? Just about the best thing I've seen on British TV for ages.

I started watching it recently, enjoying it intently...makes me homesick. But yes dead good.
the problem is im picking up the dialect and using it in daily chatter(not online but with real live people)
If you get to watch ripper street, Its worth watching.

Thanks for reminding me of Ripper Street. I'm behind a series on that.

Peaky Blinders only gets better as it goes along. So many stars obviously having a fab time playing gangsters. Tom Hardy's London Jewish gangster is just great, as is Adrien Brody's mafioso later on ... the most sinisterly reptilian character I think I've ever seen.

They've really focused on the accents, from what I've heard. Tom Hardy's is especially authentic - proper Jewish, London, early 20th C.

It's a toss up between Peaky Blinders and Ray Donovan regarding how much booze everyone gets through ....

It's interesting: I've read that the makers have relied a lot on social media to publicise this show. I'm a bit baffled by that: they've clearly put a vast amount of resources - money included - into it. There are fairly big stars involved, too. I see it regularly being compared to the Godfather films, only as a TV series set in Britain. It seems a risky publicity-strategy to rely on - British-made TV series or films set in yesteryear haven't generally done well in the USA and elsewhere unless they've been chocolate-boxy. That's how Americans, especially, seem to want to see Britain. You probably couldn't get less chocolate-boxy than Peaky Blinders, though - it's *very* grimy.

Just saw this and am watching now, enjoy it an started because I like Sam Neil.

The ever-reliable Sam Neil's great in it. I can't judge his Ulster accent - I'm not that familiar with it as it's spoken by the natives - but I've been told it's pretty authentic.

I haven't, but I keep getting it as a suggestion through Netflix. For some reason I keep stepping away from it in favour of other things, and I'm not sure why. Especially as I keep seeing so many people raving about it. I probably should give it a go.

I did that myself, thinking about it now. I watched fifteen minutes of Ep 1 of the first series a few years ago and thought 'Nah, this isn't for me. Too grim.' Much later I started to watch it again and thought 'hey, this is familiar'. I persevered this time, though - and I think I was hooked by the end of the first episode.

Ok Peon, you got me! I started watching the first one, and was mildly entertained by the fact that it's Nick Cave playing the credits. However, it lost me at the smack up scene with Sam Neill. Then I thought about it, and I was having a tough day, so watched the rest of it today, and I'm now third one in. Damn everyone to hell, I'm going to have to watch it all now [8|]

God, though, doesn't it all look so rough? Bleak weather; dark, crumbling slum houses, everyone wearing grey .... I kept thinking of L S Lowry paintings. No wonder, I suppose, that they all seem to spend most of their waking hours necking alcohol.

There are four seasons of it so far and I can't remember when Tom Hardy turns up as the cockney Jewish gangster. I guess it goes without saying he does it *very* well.
