Antifa?

Muslims?

Maybe it was the Amish

Object on tracks may be cause of deadly Amtrak derailment

Monday’s deadly Amtrak train derailment may have been caused by the train striking something on the railway, according to an unconfirmed Associated Press report.

A preliminary investigation suggests maintenance problems are unlikely to blame because the incident took place on brand-new tracks, a government official told the AP on condition of anonymity.

At least three people were killed and the death toll is expected to rise, the Associated Press reported.

The Amtrak 501 plunged off an overpass onto I-5 near Lacey, Washington, sometime before 7:45 a.m., during its inaugural run between Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon.

It could well have been Antifa, the Amish, Islamist terrorists and radical feminists, all working together, as they often do. The object that caused the derailment was probably one of their highly mobile horse and cart units that converts at the flick of a button into a mosque, an abortion clinic or a group of masked demonstrators.

I think the OP jumped the rails.

Nonsense, it was obviously Hilary Clinton: she probably tied Chelsea to the rails while twirling her mustache and cackling.

servantforuse -> RE: Object on tracks caused Amtrak derailment? (12/19/2017 5:53:05 AM)

Speed might have been the cause. The train was going 80 mph while it should have doing 30 mph around that curve.

BoscoX -> RE: Object on tracks caused Amtrak derailment? (12/19/2017 6:29:16 AM)

Some of the passengers said that they had taken sharper curves at that speed though, and the ride was real smooth. The track right there was brand new

Old track can have degraded (rotten) ties that give way when pushed by a train on a curve and cause derailments, but that wasn't the case here. Perhaps the speed limit was due to a congested area? I don't know, that's a guess

JVoV -> RE: Object on tracks caused Amtrak derailment? (12/19/2017 7:36:59 AM)

Are trains no longer equipped with cow catchers? To push stuff out of their way, and safely (for the train) to the side?

Speed limits are in place for many reasons, especially when that speed limit is low.

Lucylastic -> RE: Object on tracks caused Amtrak derailment? (12/19/2017 8:04:01 AM)

I heard(not read) that also, the Positive Train Control was not activated, it should have been, it would have slowed the train down enough to take the curve.

The Amtrak Cascades 501 train was carrying 86 people on its first journey, according to the news.

but, im sure that details will be fleshed out in the coming days.

The Bypass that the train was on is all brand new track. Amtrack used to have to share BNSF's mainline track and the Bypass was built to ease the incredible bottleneck in that area with single track, tunnels, curves, and traffic between both BNSF and passenger trains. The NTSB has retrieved the data from the rear locomotive and it showed the train was going 80mph in a 30mph zone when it went off the at the I-5 overpass.

It'd be interesting to see a drug test on the driver, now you mention speed...

Wow, those tribes have really gone hi-tech haven't they ? How about a big blow-up doll of Hillary ? I bet that alone would have scared that train right off-track.

The capitalist in me suggests we put those Islamist terrorists and radical feminists alone...on Pay-Per-View. Could make some money there.

I think the op not only jumped the rails, but took a left turn into the realm of fake news, passing the normal stop and ended up in bullshitville.

How about a little truth for once Bosco?

quote:

The Amtrak passenger train that derailed on Monday south of Tacoma, Wash., was traveling on tracks that were equipped with technology to prevent accidents, but the safety feature was not activated, according to the rail service.

The incident killed three people and injured nearly 100 others and has renewed concerns about the safety of U.S. rail lines. The National Transportation Safety Board says the train was travelling at 80 mph on a curve with a posted speed limit of 30 mph. Positive train control technology was installed on the tracks, but was still in the testing phase and not set to be functional until next year, says Jim Blaze, a railroad consultant and economist.

Oh, and the fact that the positive train control system was shut off might have played a part, since it is designed to prevent such accidents...

So actually, this begs the question, what the fuck did the rail road companies do with all that fucking money that the Bush II administration and the Obama Administration give them to improve the rail lines, improve safety, and get the positive train control system in place, which was supposed to have been done by 2015 but has been extended for some rail segments until 2020...

And why the fuck wasnt the system turned on.

Nope, no terrorists, Amish, Muslim, leftest or otherwise, just the plain normal human bullshit attitude of "who gives a fuck that we spent billions putting the system in place, that does not mean we have to actually use it."

And then we get people like bosco who blames everything on some terrorist plot.

Oh, and bosco, just so you know, things fall on to train tracks all the time, trees and rocks, especially in places like where the accident happened, no body has to actually put it there....

Unless you think mother nature is an antifa terrorist.

Cow catchers aren't designed to remove the various things from the rails (often relatively tiny objects) that can cause derailments

I saw an article online and the comments blamed the accident on the GOP Congress for not requiring PTC by 2015, allowing it the deadline to be pushed back to 2018 (which is what was stated in the article as being the new deadline). While PTC would likely have prevented this accident, that PTC isn't mandated by legislation yet doesn't put onus on Congress. PTC was installed on this line, but it was still the testing phase (according to your article). Is the line operator responsible for the accident since PTC wasn't yet functional? OR, does it come down to who was supposed to be in control of the train?

Like the Amtrak accident in PA, it may come down to the engineer not doing his job properly. Iirc, in the PA accident, the engineer was texting heading into the curve. While I'm neither claiming nor accusing this engineer of being on his phone, it is clear something prevented the train from slowing down. Whether that was a hardware or software failure that prevented the engineer's commands to slow down, or the engineer wasn't even giving the command to slow down, needs to be figured out to help prevent future incidents.

Prayers to the families of those that died, and to those who survived, and their families.
