BuzzFeed Editor: ‘All I Want For Christmas Is Full Communism Now’

A science editor at BuzzFeed UK raised a few eyebrows last week after some curious remarks about Communism.

“All I want for Christmas is full Communism now,” editor Kelly Oakes tweeted — before locking down her account after it was picked by right-wing media and the always ferocious James Woods.

A spokesperson for BuzzFeed declined to comment on the matter. Oakes, who does not report to the website’s U.S.-based science desk, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Critics pointed out that Communism as practiced by the Soviet Union, China and North Korea has led to the deaths of over 100 million people, according to the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.

In November, BuzzFeed reporter Blake Montgomery blasted a White House proclamation memorializing victims of Communism and tweeted out his belief that the term “victims of Communism” was just dog whistle and a “white nationalist talking point.”

The tweet was swiftly deleted and Montgomery apologized.

It's pretty amazing how there is such a resurgent of truly radical thought...that admittedly is poisoned by some sectarian division but still.

I think that a lot of people either don't know about the deaths or don't care.
I think that it's very difficult for someone as you who is so obsessed with neo-conservative or quasi libertarian thought and politics that you constantly discuss it even here on a BDSM forum to understand the other side. But take me for example. I'll tell you honestly how I feel.

I'm a bit of an entrepreneur, I'm a capitalist by virtue of my investments, I'm a person from an ex-communist country and I love personal liberty

But I have absolute disdain for this world order. I am absolute sick of how we live today. And I don't have a problem with killing a lot of people to change this world order simply because death is part of life and struggle demands blood. True change will never come without at least the threat of violence against those that today benefit from the status quo.

But for me it's not even about who benefits or doesn't. I don't have much patience for the social policies of todays progressives. I'm just terribly tired and sick of the status of relationships between people and towards the greater society. Even her statement here is a call for attention far more than it is a call for communism. Buzzfeed is itself a symbol of this. This girl is forced to compete for attention, to say what ever is necessary to gain a following. Truth matters little nor do her actual feelings on the subject. Although there are some very pleasant, polite and fine individuals in the upper echelons of society there is a sickness in our society as a whole. Something that will just grow and become worse and more depraved the more connected we become, the more centralized information becomes and the more automated production becomes. So a lot of young people today, although sometimes unable to articulate it are simply drawn towards anything that attacks the present social order.

So you see....Although I've realized that I would be one of the first to rebel against and probably die in a new "Soviet" (probably something else) era I still prefer that over what we have today. I think I would be like those early allies of the Bolsheviks that all got killed. But if I was a historic person I would still prefer that over a continued tzarist monarchy.

Does this make any sense to you?

No I know that. But I don't get an opportunity to talk to people like him very often so I would like to see if after such a honest display he would be able to at least understand what is at stake.
For example, often you'll see these people say "well, you'd be the firs to die if the commies took over". Well.. I'm a bit unique in that I am ready for a struggle with the "commies" as well if need be. Or whoever wishes me dead. I accept that the revolution may be even uglier than its predecessor and that the wheels of history must turn.

Very true. A lot of the commie bashers on here seem to be hoping the current fashion for autocratic plutocracy is going to continue centralising power and money in the hands of a fast shrinking elite, without considering what came next when that approach was taken to the highest level it achieved in Russia and France.

Well I don't know if the plebs here hope for that. They tend to be quite anti-establishment but do not quite understand what is happening.
A lot of wealthy people do though and they are fighting to minimize the consequences. Buffet, Musk and Gates have warned of the consequences. As did Bismarck when he called for the formation of the first welfare state.

But the situation is such that the market today is not controlled. It is chaotic. There is no leadership. There is no conspiracy. There are far more corporations with a myriad of owners only interested in their own greed than there are companies driver by visionaries like Musk or Branson. It is no longer possible to control it. There are no national aspirations under which it functions. Thus it marches towards its own extreme and then undoing as a headless monster devouring all before it.

Insults are normal here, I don't care about that. I just thought the way you tried to insult me was ironic

I will read your post following my OP again and reply in a more thoughtful manner, though perhaps not right away. I am juggling some things here, partially due to the season. It's a busy time of year.

I don't think Communism is the answer, but many people would consider it over the current system.
