It is a big deal to the 2 million employees that have gotten those raises and bonuses.

MasterDrakk -> RE: Senate to vote soon on tax bill (1/11/2018 12:00:18 PM)

Oh, I am sure that most of the guys who got their one time bonuses raised an eyebrow and said huh, cute.

And the walmart employees going to $11 bucks an hours said, gee, only $10 dollars an hour less than costco, we sure are catching up now.

But closing up so many Sams Clubs they aren't going to lessen their millionaire technocrats bask.

And 2 million? You have credible citation of that figure? Perhaps a million.

because at 2 million that would be good for .006 of your population when its more like .003

They made an announcement. Let us know when people actually start seeing that money.

As far as being a big deal, yeah, it's mighty white of them to finally start paying something close to resembling a living wage to their employees who they have been riding into the ground since they opened. Funny how Costco has managed to do it for years and still show healthy profits.

It's probably an even bigger deal to the thousands of employees of the 63 Sam's Club stores that are closing, some of which closed their doors today with zero warning to their employees.

Do you really believe that closing your eyes makes reality go away

Obummer took money out of the economy and redistributed it to "stimulate" the economy, then those jobs disappeared when the "stimulus" ran out. That was his "job growth"

Nothing but a huge circle jerk

President Trump is stimulating the economy the proper way - trickle down economics

And we are seeing MASSIVE payoffs. This Walmart stimulus alone is gargantuan

And it's the real deal, none of that leftist trash, robbing Peter to pay Paul insanity. Real stimulus.

Lucylastic -> RE: Senate to vote soon on tax bill (1/11/2018 6:10:23 PM)

walmart started raising their wage barrier a while ago
http://fortune.com/2016/01/20/walmart-employees-pay-raise/

Walmart will next month increase pay for more than 1.2 million employees in a move the world’s largest retailer says will be one of the largest private-sector pay increases in history.

The pay hike, which will help lift the average hourly full-time rate to $13.38 in 2016, will take effect on February 20. It affects Walmart’s U.S. and Sam’s Club associates.

The next phase of the pay increases comes almost exactly a year after Walmart first unveiled plans to spend $1 billion to increase hourly wages for its current U.S. store associates to more than $9 per hour, or higher, beginning in April 2015.

On Wednesday, Walmart (WMT, +0.34%) said the entire two-year investment would cost $2.7 billion. While that may dent the retailer’s bottom line, it also seems to be reaping reward.

“Our customers and associates are noticing a difference,” said Judith McKenna, chief operating officer for Walmart U.S., in a statement. “We’re seeing strong increases in both customer experience and associate engagement scores.

As Fortune has reported, comparable sales at the company’s U.S. stores rose for fifth straight quarter when results were reported in November. Walmart had earlier in the fall warned that profit for this year would sharply drop due to investments in e-commerce and to invest in higher wages for employees. So while improved customer service is helping boost sales, it does come at a price to Walmart.

Its 2 years old almost...but I hope it will suffice as a decent source...
I see no one responded to your Sams club news Stef....
I know you werent holding your breath tho....

Except the job growth continued year by year....

•2016: 187,000
•2015: 226,000
•2014: 250,000
•2013: 192,000
•2012: 179,000
•2011: 174,000
•2010: 88,000

Not exactly jobs "disappearing".

This has been a proven failure every time it has been tried.

MASSIVE? hardly.... There are some bonuses for show. The Walmart increases were in place long before this horrible tax increase bill was passed.

This is the typical Republican strategy. Redistribute the wealth. Take money out of the economy from the middle class (the REAL job creators) and redistribute to corporations and large donors.

It's a horrible deal for everyone, except for the shareholders of the corporations, and the incredibly wealthy.

Strawman comparing the number of people getting a bonus to the total number of people in the US

Assumption: Roughly 325M people in the US.

https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t01.htm

160.6M in the civilian workforce.

1M get a bonus = 0.625% of the workforce get a bonus
2M get a bonus = 1.25% of the workforce get a bonus

When, roughly, half the population isn't in the workforce, it's unreasonable to use those people to relate the size of those who are getting bonuses from employers.

MasterDrakk -> RE: Senate to vote soon on tax bill (1/12/2018 1:09:12 AM)

well, first off that wouldnt be a strawman. But we are working on up to 1% now. And your 'strawman' about them getting a bonus... if you worked there 20 years you can get a thousand dollars, not everyone gets a bonus, gee whilikers, thats like 50 greeen backs for every year. The munificence of these billionaires is astounding. Talk about the trickle.

how many 50s are there in 1.5 trillion dollars? Cook those numbers for us. ,

Kinkroids, this is America. It is ALL about the money. Corp. America has and has had the money on hand to do all of things they are doing now. Dev. hirings and wages...all of them.

What we witnessing is a blatantly obvious quid pro quo...otherwise known as bribery. Or call it corporate extortion. They keep say a trillion or two offshore, they will still constantly fire every American they can go without or replace.

Corp. America has just been handed trillion$ from your children and their children and maybe even theirs too. Corp. America is doing all of this...with their money.

Great post Mr. Rodgers, but at this point corporate America always runs this country.

They run this country, regardless of whether we have a Democratic or Republican President.
Sure, it is MUCH better for social programs, when we have a Democratic President, and we can get a few things that many of us want, but:

These days, regardless of whether we have a **Democratic or Republican** President, behind the curtain, big business is pulling the strings and corporate America is going to run the show.

CORPORATE LIBERALS

The changes, that I want to see, I doubt I will see in my lifetime, which is why I have given up on the Democrats.
My only real hope these days, is to see a viable 3rd party actually WIN the election, that is not in bed with corporate America/special interest groups, OR
a Democratic President, that is not indebted to corporate America.
*Which I doubt, I will live to see, so I have to be happy with the "crumbs" of progress, I may live long enough to see.*
crumbs seem to mean a lot these days, and is all we can expect

Peace

House MUST re-vote tomorrow.
Awaiting Senate to vote tonight.

They must be in a hurry to run home for a couple of weeks.

Listening to the news is making me nervous.

It looks like it is going to pass.
It looks like the rich are going to get richer, and the middle class will be screwed.

Thoughts, on the tax bill?

This bill is so horrific in every way....

It is the typical Republican redistribution of wealth. It takes middle class money out of the economy and gives it to corporations.

Now I find that I completely LOSE my sales tax deduction (worth about $1800 in real cash to me)
https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/washington-state-sales-tax-deduction-axed-in-republican-tax-bill/

This is on top of losing my exemptions (worth about $3000 to me in real cash)

Since my itemized deductions exceed the higher standard deduction, I get ZERO benefit for that.

All I get out of this TURD of a bill is:

1. I get to qualify again for the child tax credit (now $2000). (I haven't qualified in well over a decade, because the max income was so low)
2. The rates in my brackets drop 2%

This is the TYPICAL Republican redistribution of wealth.

The WORST Piece of SHIT for the Middle Class! Bring back Obama!!!!

P.S. If BoscoX itemizes (he is in a no income tax state like I am), he will be screwed by this bill as well.

Except that the country has never seen a corporate tax cut and this time coupled with a top rate tax cut, of anything like this from dem rule. The dems reminded the American people the Bush II's tax cuts were temporary.

The repub then threatened a govt. shut down over those cuts to keep them lower.

Yes, the dems fail to reign in corp. influence but don't pander in taxes and it is the repubs who are their fiscal, financial ass-kissers.

The middle class will benefit greatly when this bill is passed.

By no measurable KPI did this turn out to be true (at least as a result of the tax bill, which I believe was your meaning)
