A> He is 57 years old.
B> He has served 8 years of a 27year sentence.
C> He was convicted for faking sales figures in order to borrow more money from a bank.

Did he steal from the bank? Nope.
27 years seems to be a bit harsh for a first offender white collar crime where no one actually lost any money.

I'd be in favor of the old guy spending time with his grand kids.

I think the compassionate pardon spin sounds good but favor banking on Trumps part kicked it up to the actual pardon. Note that even Nancy Pelosi recommending the old chap for the pardon.

To prosecute for immigration violations; there would have to be proof that the employer actually knew he was getting falsified I-9 forms. I know of one idiot at a chicken packing plant that made up a company brochure on where and how to get a fake social security card. I think he got 10 years federal time as that was considered proof that he was getting falsified I-9s.

Now, if you want to confuse an HR clerk; don't give her a driver's license and social security card with your I-9 but just hand her your U.S. Passport. Get's em every time but all you need is the one picture ID provided and certified by the U.S. Government for civilians - the passport. <evil grin>
