MrRodgers -> 128 repudiate Trump's 9 against 35 abstain (12/21/2017 9:08:09 PM)

UN General Assembly votes down Trump decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The UN General Assembly voted 128-9 to declare US President Donald Trump's declaration of Jerusalem as Israel's capital "null and void".

The vote, while a victory for the Palestinians, was significantly lower than its supporters had hoped for, with many forecasting at least 150 "yes" votes. There were a total of 35, while 21 nations did not turn up for the vote.

Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the result, his spokesman saying: "The vote is a victory for Palestine.

"We will continue our efforts in the United Nations and at all international forums to put an end to this occupation and to establish our Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital."

I did not agree with Trump's declaration of allegiance to Israel's right wing, no compromise, leadership but the UN is a waste of our money. It is a useless grandstand for politicians and has not solved ONE conflict in all its years of existence. What possible good did that vote do for anyone? I agree with our right wing friends here that we should kick their butts out of the country and take the money we throw away by funding the UN and perhaps we could afford a better healthcare solution.

Well that will never happen. The UN is a collection of overpaid bureaucrats, using the forum to codify their own goals and in some cases, belligerence.

I think Trump just wanted some headlines, this changes nothing and both sides will go on defying UN res after UN res.

That on this issue, results in what is on the ground for Israeli and Palestine and with no solution in sight.

Ask yourself, when was the last time you saw any UN resolution ever enforced...by force ?

Does the world actually think that the UN will do anymore than send food etc. and a few basically impotent troops to any conflict ?

See how religion poisons everything.

So what. That vote is absolutely meaningless. We are moving our embassy to Jerusalem. If these other countries don't like it, they can go pound sand, or maybe throw some rocks.

LTE -> RE: 128 repudiate Trump's 9 against 35 abstain (12/21/2017 10:13:34 PM)

We won again. The 1995 decision by the Congress to put our embassy in Jerusalem was finally executed by a President with balls. You don't think he will cut off the U.N. and all those countries who voted against America? You have not been paying close attention.

Symbolic at the most. Moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem is just another construction job.

That's it. The first female President to be said so today in the U.N.

She made us proud.

Symbols are important. They send a message. This one is America First. In this case the U.S. Government was ordered by it's Citizens to move our embassy to Jerusalem in 1995 and Trump executed the order even though it was unpopular outside of America because it is the will of the American people. America First. Just that simple.

Jerusalem holds unique spiritual and religious interests, such as Holy Places and religious buildings or sites, among the world's Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. You won alright...more terrorism, more war, more hatred and a future of even more.

Isn't that precious...god as real estate broker and yet another eloquent description of how religion poisons everything.

Think about any 'unique spiritual and religious' interests and how insane it is to use force or go to war over such useless and truly meaningless...interests.

servantforuse -> RE: 128 repudiate Trump's 9 against 35 abstain (12/21/2017 10:25:58 PM)

If it is only symbolic, why have 3 days of rage ?

This is about American Sovereignty and that is no longer a useless and meaningless interest. Remember this and you will know what Trump will do in any such situation and why.

Only 7 more years, mr, Rodgers. It will be ok.

"We won again" - are you serious? I am unable to see how losing a vote by such a colossal margin (128-9) can be said to be a victory. How does destroying what's left of the 'peace process' and antagonising the rest of the world constitute a victory? Perhaps you will be kind enough to tell us what was won and by whom.

Actually, let's make it a lot easier for you. Can you nominate one way in which this decision makes the US or the world better off? Can you tell us whether it advances the cause of peace in the region or retards it? Is there an upside in this decision for anyone except the Israelis? If there is, please advise me because for the life of me, I don't see it.

Fast reply.

The whole thing is symbolic from the vote itself to the sight of the Trump administration acting as if a non-binding vote on a matter of principle is some great offence to the principle of US sovereignty.

"Oh the other countries in the world didn't like what we did, let's threaten them and then moan and whine as if we're really hurt."

Surely the most powerful nation in the world can deal with the fact that everyone doesn't agree with it, especially when it's not a surprise.

The US is not misunderstood or being badly done to here. It certainly is not the poor little kid in the playground that the other children are beating up on. The administration and its vocal supporters should just suck it up, for fuck's sake and stop complaining.

It's just a vote, and the US is still the biggest kid in the playground.

Who is acting like the US is the poor little kid in the playground that the other children are beating up on[?]"

Most seem to be acting like the US is the bully on the playground that other kids in the playground are starting to talk back to.

You believe in your cartoonish delusions, that the whole world is as petty and small-minded as your typical leftist punk

Where are the declarations that others will not trade with us now. Where are the Muslims promising to only mass slaughter elsewhere

Lucylastic -> RE: 128 repudiate Trump's 9 against 35 abstain (12/22/2017 6:20:02 AM)

well, the UN showed pretty much what the world thinks of the bullying(blackmail) attempted by your ilk.
you sad little man, again with the bullshit. attempting to put your "thoughts" in mine, just stop, its pathetic, boring and dishonest
yawwwwwwn
Nobody has stated other countries have announced stopping trade.
it will take more than bullying.
