MrRodgers -> S. Korea seizes 2nd oil tanker to N Korea (12/31/2017 9:47:35 AM)

Will this work ? Will this trace back to China and if so, what will the US do about it and.....

.....is it true that the US really has little or no leverage over the war state of the N. Korean regime ?

What can the US do ? These two seizers represent only about 68,000 bbls. of oil which is less than 2 days worth for their comsumption. (military and elite)

HERE

N. Korean consumption of oil is a little over 40,000 bbls. a day, way down from its peak in 1992 of 76,000/day.

Will what work? Will seizing another oil tanker work to what end?

If it traces back to China, what will happen? I think Trump will come to the rescue, make his face into even more of a scowl, tweet something stupid, and... if he's really feeling his oats.... wag his finger at Xi Jingping. Nikki Haley, on the other hand, will probably bring this to the UN/UNSC and start looking for a response from that body (which it dearly needs to come from; and with some teeth, please).

Will it spur action by the Kim Jong Un? I sure hope not. South Korea could be in for some extra fireworks the beginning of their new year (it's already 2018 there at the time of this post). That spot could become a tinderbox. This could end up very poorly.

I hope KJU was lying about their capabilities in his bragging/warnings.

Leverage is at a minimum. (mainly the proximity of Seole)

The big question is whether or not the US will seek sanctions on China should it come to that. The US will not, too much...money involved.

This is precisely what I can't stand about the UN. It makes sanctions and passes resolutions that are meaningless. The oil-for-food scandal in Iraq netted a few people in the US who ended up paying several million in fines and served some time in jail. Meh.

If the UN is going to pass sanctions, they should also include consequences and hold countries accountable. But, they don't; and likely won't.

I'm still hoping KJU doesn't take some action that ends up in war.

Chances are the oil is from Russia, not China. There are reports of Russians delivering oil to the NorKs by transferring the oil to tankers off shore.
linky

Very possible yes. Good link. Plus, again...no leverage.
