White House: Trump has ‘raised the bar for our nation’s aviation safety’

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Tuesday that President Trump has “raised the bar” for commercial airline safety after Trump took credit for the safest year of airline travel.

Sanders was asked whether former President Obama deserved credit for there being no fatal passenger airline crashes in the U.S. since 2009.

"The president has raised the bar for our nation's aviation safety and security,” Sanders told reporters during a White House press briefing, echoing comments made earlier in the day by fellow spokesman Raj Shah.

Sanders touted Trump’s announcement of a plan to “modernize air traffic control,” which stalled in Congress, and new “enhanced security measures” put in place by the Department of Homeland Security.

“The president is very happy that there were no commercial airline deaths in 2017 and we hope that that trend continues well into 2018 and beyond,” she said.

In a tweet Tuesday, Trump took credit for 2017 being the safest year on record for commercial aviation. source

The fact there has been no fatel airline crashes in the US since 2009 cannot be credited to either Obama or Trump, since most of the actual in flight safety measures that have prevented such fatal crashes were the direct result of NTSB investigations of previous crashes, fatal or otherwise, since each investigation leads to either mechanical or procedural changes in the air line industry.

So, the reporter that asked if Obama was responsible for the zero crashes during his administration is just as much an idiot as the brainless wonder that said that Trump was responsible for last year's zero incidents.

FYI, considering the amount of equipment, staff and infrastructure involved in modernizing air traffic control in the United States, I must point out that after the last major airline crash in which any part of that system needed drastic change or overhaul took 12 years to plan, implement and bring online.

I mean lets look at the numbers:

521 manned air traffic control towers handling take offs and landings, including ground traffic radar which allows tower controllers to know exactly where aircraft (and airport vehicles) are before take off and after landing.

65000 individual pieces of equipment located at airports, and various locations along air traffic routes

25 air traffic control centers with individual radar systems- not included in the 65000 pieces of equipment

160 Terminal radar control facilities, each with its own radar system - not included in the 65000 pieces of equipment

14050 Air traffic controllers that would have to be trained on new equipment

This is yet another example of why it think someone needs to ban Trump from Twitter.

Trump's tweet was at 6:13am on January 2nd.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders runs the Pressers.

Your title: "How in the hell can he make this claim?" [Bold mine]

Trump can't make a claim in a presser he's not in. He can (and did) make a claim on Twitter.

I think the writing is on the wall. When the skies open up, the bright sunshine comes through and...life springs eternal.

News conference at 10 AM. Trump has brought forth new life and now...is our god.

North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the “Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.” Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!

It'll be interesting to see if there's a sudden flip flop from the RWNJs over this whole "best president ever!" thing in the event of a resignation and pardon or an impeachment that's contested rather than evaded: they seem a lot less keen on Nixon than Reagan or Eisenhower, I've noticed...

Compare the two:

Obama illegally gave the Iranians billions in cash to continue waging jihad in several different countries, and to help crush dissidents inside of Iran, and also allowed the Iranian puppet organization known as Hezbollah run a billion dollar cocaine cartel inside of the USA...

A president with real balls lets rocket man know that if he dares try the nuke attack he keeps threatening he will be sorry

Which one does the media blow up into a bigger scandal

And why do morons like you (who claim to be "libertarian") favor silencing anyone's freedom of speech. Especially someone who has no other voice, and is constantly the focus of overwhelmingly (95%) negative coverage by a deranged media that has disavowed even a thin facade of objectivity

MasterDrakk -> RE: How in the hell can he make this claim? (1/3/2018 1:07:51 PM)

1) No illegal cash given anyone by Obama. Not even controversial, actually saved a great deal of money.
2) Kim Jung Un would never have, and never pulled this shit on Obama, but now Kim knows he is dealing with a pants shitting pussy, so he is wiping his ass with the whitehouse commie-in-chief.

He's not helping himself at all with his tweets. His tweeting is not done like a President should act. Since I didn't state it here, but have before, I do think it should be someone in his Administration that bans Trump from Twitter.

The sooner Trump stops trying to bully his way through American politics, the sooner he'll start acting like a President should act, and the less criticism he'll face over his behaviors. I think Trump would win on policy more often than not, but his tweeting is working against him, imo.

I'm not sold that Kim Jong Un doesn't have nuclear weapons at this time. I'm not sold on KJU not being deranged enough to not launch nukes. I'm not sold on KJU having nukes that can reach the US, but if he launches nukes, you know damn well the US Military is going to gear up and it's going to get ugly over there. That could draw China and Russia in, too. Trump's taunting of KJU could result in seriously bad shit going down; and if it does, it's not going to end pretty. I'd much rather Trump ignore the childish KJU.

If Trump were to lay off the tweets, he'd be giving that "deranged media" less negative material with which to run. If they wanted to keep running as many stories on Trump, they'd end up having to actually run stories on policy and programs. As I said before, I think Trump comes out on top in that case.

Someone who has no other voice?
He has the loudest gob in the fucking northern hemisphere.

Its his tweets, voice and messages that have made him the front page news when ever his fingers fumble.
His own lies, his own words, his own ignorance and dumbassery.
he gives an interview with his favourite the "failing ny slimes"
Tells 24 lies in half an hour.
now hes slagging off bannon, like a ten year old
someone who has no other voice be damned.
