First, I don't accept the premise of your question. So, instead of an answer, I will give you a statement:

I don't care if the guy was a flaming communist that supported abortion for 12-year-olds without parental consent, if those opinions never tarnished his class room.

Should he have lost his job? It's a private school. It's their decision. If I were a parent of a child that went to that school and I found out about his extra-curricular activities, you bet your ass I'd ask the school some questions, but my ultimate indicator would be what my child came home, talking about.

I go back to 1993, when my youngest (who was five-years-old, at the time) came home and told me that his teacher told him that I was a "drug addict" because I smoked cigarettes. Myself, the teacher, and the principal had a rather uncomfortable conversation. I brought the topic to the school board and the teacher was "straightened out" to my satisfaction. I also got an apology from the teacher, in front of my child.

Thought not. You have nothing to say about this that isn't special pleading through the selective application of moral judgements that are worthless unless they're applied universally, then.
