I do like the lady he he'd given a transplant a few years before saying "who cares?" to the press.

According to the article, it wasn't though to impair function, and usually goes away by itself. So, no long term damages, I suppose. But, why risk potential failure to do that?

Blows me away how some people think. I suppose his actions haven't really hurt anyone, but still.

Lucylastic -> RE: Transplant surgeon admits to signing his work... (1/12/2018 5:32:19 PM)

I only scanned the article I didnt see any mention of the size, so I didnt think about it, livers can repair, up to a certain point, but good point.

I have heard of a neurosurgeon carving initials in the skull of a patient, but that was before the interwebs and didnt make the news.
I liked my last surgeon, but it wouldnt worry me if he had carved "kilroy was ere" on my insides...im not sure why...
Not that im condoning it, or would advocate it, adhesions/scarrings suck afterwards...on the insides I mean

Right. I guess there is still a greater risk of failure when you do shit like that. At least, I can see how that could compromise the procedure.

Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay... they filed a lawsuit against the surgeon who branded her uterus, during a surgery to remove the uterus?!? WTF?!? She wasn't materially harmed. There was no risk of future damage because it was removed.

From the lawsuit:
    quote:

II. Counti 1-Intentional infliction of mental and emotional distress (outrage)
    ...
    10. The actions ... using a heat cauterizing instrument to brand ... when there was no medical reason for it, and delivery of the tape to the Plaintiffs for viewing were intentional, degrading, reckless, outrageous, and intolerable, and offend generally accepted standards of decency and morality.
    11. The Plaintiffs suffered severe mental and emotional distress, embarrassment, and humiliation by the Defendant's actions and by what they saw on the video tape, and the Defendants knew that seeing the video would have that affect on any normal person.
    ...
    III Count 2-Battery
    ...
    15. The actions... constitute an intentional, harmful, and offensive contact with the person of the Plaintiff and constitute the tort of battery.
    IV. Count 3-Loss of Consortium
    ...
    17. As a direct result of the Defendants' actions described above, Plaintiff David Means has suffered a loss of consortium with his wife Stephanie and is entitled to damages pursuant to KRS.413.145

Count 3? Seriously? He lost the ability to have normal familial relations with his wife because a Dr cauterized initials into her uterus that he was removing? Seriously?!?

Good Lord.

1. I don't understand why the Dr would do that. Goes along with my statement of being blown away by how some people think.
2. I do believe this lawsuit goes a bit too far in it's claims. I suppose the lawyers gin up as much as possible to make sure something sticks.

What a stupid situation. Seriously stupid.

Lucylastic -> RE: Transplant surgeon admits to signing his work... (1/13/2018 12:43:50 AM)

theres a lot of it about ....stupidity I mean.
I must have read about it a few years ago...
hundreds of thousands of malpractice suits a year...
how many are...frivolous, harmful, deadly, stupid..dangerous
and its on all sides.
BUT thats non consent for you.
Im sure some are "desired". After all there are people out there for whom branding, cauterizing, etc, is a kink. its not hard to understand the "darker" avenues of many minds..

WhoreMods -> RE: Transplant surgeon admits to signing his work... (1/13/2018 5:25:20 AM)

The hepatic surgeon in the OP claims that he was doing it to unwind and destress after a lengthy, fiddly, complex and demanding operation, which isn't unconvincing. A liver transplant is a lot more involved than replacing a cornea, after all.

A branding on the cornea is likely more easily seen, too (pun intended).

Seems Doc took graffiti to a whole new level.

It wasn’t his canvas to spray paint though.

That is Docs bad.
