The problem for Republicans is...

The speaker fight pulls back the curtain on House Republicans and exposes them for what they are. They are clearly not interested in good government. The few specs of actual good governance in the McCarthy/Scalise agenda are not even worth a dime to the MAGA House members. As Pete Buttigieg so eloquently put it, "The problems are far more useful to them than the solutions."

They want to be seen by the base ON TV as "owning the libs". They care about NOTHING else.

Take inflation for example. There is ZERO Republican plan to fight inflation. None of them know the first thing about economics (or cares for that matter)
It was hilarious to hear Mark Levin say "What is the Republican plan for inflation? I have no idea." - LOL

I don't think MJ or I have said that any of the reasonings behind not supporting McCarthy are invalid, but they should have been worked out before the sessions began.

But yes, one reason is pure obstruction. The recent budget passed into law is a bit much for some, as is the budget process.

Trump supports McCarthy, reportedly even calling the holdouts, which made Boebert pitch a fit, cuz her favorite President should be on her side.

But maybe McCarthy isn't the right guy.

OH FUCK - our leaders are seriously debating critical decisions!!!!

We're DOOMED!!!!

(Found this laying around)

quote:

Think about how much better off we'd be right now if debate were the "norm" rather than some newsworthy fluke. Think of the bills passed, unread and undebated, that may not have passed if our elected representatives had cared enough to debate them this vigorously. Debate is good.

What you’ve seen on the House floor over the last 3 days is what you should see on every single bill that comes up for consideration.

This should be the norm, not the exception. Lawmakers debating and arguing and voting out in the open is great, and we need more of it. - Carolyn Tacket

SIGH....

BoscoX, I will try again, because you are a good guy. I will try and break it down for you.

DEBATE - GOOD, The correct way Congress is supposed work. We LOVE debate

However.... Debating when the deadline has passed to vote.... BAD.... very bad. Bad planning, disorganization, and dysfunction.
As a result, currently, the House Of Representatives is currently inoperable.

Lawmakers SHOULD debate in the open. Very good.

Meeting deadlines like the rest of us in the world... CRITICAL

Republicans failed. NOT because they are debating, but because they just STARTED debating when it is time to make a choice.

Once again to summarize:
DEBATE - GOOD
MISSING CRITICAL DEADLINES CASUING THE CONGRESS TO CEASE OPERATIONS - BAD

I hope this makes it easier for you to understand. I have tried explaining this multiple times, and you keep saying how wonderful debate is without seeing the bigger picture.
Because I like you, I will always go out of my way to explain things for you.

JVoV -> RE: No Speaker today? (1/6/2023 1:35:53 PM)

Debate is absolutely necessary in a Democratic society. But debate should not take so long on such a matter. It doesn't bode well for debates to come over the next 2 years.

And what is there to debate? Ego? McCarthy has more votes now, but still not quite enough. So it's his ego vs the holdouts' ego. "Debate" or pissing competition? The general election was in November. They've all been able to debate and choose sides ever since.

JVoV -> RE: No Speaker today? (1/6/2023 2:37:43 PM)

6 Not Him votes remaining:
Rep. Andy Biggs (Ariz.)
Rep. Lauren Boebert (Colo.)
Rep.-elect Eli Crane (Ariz.)
Rep. Matt Gaetz (Fla.)
Rep. Bob Good (Va.)
Rep. Matt Rosendale (Mont.)

McCarthy needs 4 of them.

Gaetz says he ‘will resign’ if Democrats help elect a moderate Republican for Speaker

One can only hope and pray to G-d

The Florida panhandle could use an adult representing them instead of this moronic child.

JVoV -> RE: No Speaker today? (1/6/2023 4:40:06 PM)

Dems should all vote for McCarthy then. Lol

ok... I posted modified Guess Who lyrics and had to explain the reference. Guilty as charged.

But I am lost on this one. What are you talking about?

JVoV -> RE: No Speaker today? (1/7/2023 4:12:16 PM)

Not a clue. Queen Elizabeth's death doesn't directly impacts me, though it is certainly terrible when somebody dies, and it is certainly a change. But now I have the Charles In Charge theme song stuck in my head.

JVoV -> RE: No Speaker today? (1/7/2023 4:19:44 PM)

Dead queen. Dead witch. I think Bosco keeps trying to make a Pelosi slam, but he fails on the landing. Mostly because he overestimates her value to either of us, MJ. But without howling about what Dems are doing, he can't really post, since Republicans aren't really doing anything. Cuz freedom!!!!

As if anyone needs proof that leftists should never be allowed anywhere near power - not only did their wildly partisan hack witch hunt show trial fiasco coven publish the private tax info of their top political opponent, they also published the social security numbers of other political opponents
