ok... I feel a bit like Coffee Talk on SNL

Talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic....

The Budget Control Act is neither a Budget, Control, nor an Act. Discuss....

The reality is this horribly and incorrectly named piece of shit legislation does nothing to control the budget, or spending for that matter.

What DOES it do?
It allows a group of people, (in EVERY case, this group has been Republicans) to hold hostage the full faith and credit of the USA.

Let me explain...
Unlike the popular misconception that this act allows a CHECK on government spending and promotes bi-partisan dialogue in managing our budget, nothing could be further from the truth.

You see the "Budget Control Act" maintains a debt limit. Not a psending limit, mind you, a debt limit.

The money has ALREADY been spent!

Let me explain it if it existed in the Corporate world.

Let's say I propose and get approval for a $2M capital project.
I start to hire external resources for my APPROVED project, payable Net30. I submit the invoices for payment, and accounts payable tells me, "Sorry, we can't pay these invoices because we are over the debt limit."

So here is what ALWAYS happens... No exceptions.

A Republican President is elected. He proposes a budget-busting tax plan, a war, or other ways to distribute taxpayer money to the most wealthy or Big Pharma or Big Oil..
Within the same year or the next couple, a debt limit vote comes. Democrats without even thinking, approve the increase. Because... WHAT WOULD BE THE ALTERNATIVE????
Happened under Trump - Tax Plan - Added Trilllions to the deficit
Bush GW - Medicare Part D - Remember that vote buying giveaway to Big Pharma?, and of course Iraq war II
Buh GHW - Iraq/Kuwait war

A Democrat President then is elected. Republicans are suddenly concerned about the national debt again. The time comes to pay the bills run up by the last Republican President, and they say no.
The economy takes a huge hit. Republican rally arpund to point the finger at Democrats.
Happened under Obama
They are getting reasy to do it to Biden this summer

BOTTOM LINE: If we want to control the Budget and control spending, RESTORE the "PAY_AS_YOU_GO" system the Democrats set up in the House.

Here is an example of a DEBT CEILING LIE (one of thousands)

The headline:
quote:

Democrats push to eliminate the debt ceiling, allow unlimited government borrowing

Is so misleading and ridiculous. It is designed for the low information Fox News consumer.

They try to conflate borrowing with spending. Fox News fans don't know the difference. They have no idea that the money the treasury borrows by selling bonds is tio pay the bills that Congress already ran up in the last administration.

They have no idea that Republicans vote to increase the debt ceiling AUTOMATICALLY when a Republican President is in his office.

As mu good friend BoscoX says: The propaganda continues because it wiorks!

This articlel is so stupid on its face, it belongs on a Fox News website.
Oh wait... It is!

It's a fight to raise the debt limit, just to fight about a budget. It's nonstop fighting, with too little being accomplished.

Balance the budget. Even if that means raising taxes on everyone but me.

The problem is... We need a spending limit, NOT a debt limit.

It would be impossible to set a spending limit law, without making it an equation, so that it can fluctuate over time. But yeah, a meaningless debt limit is stupid.
