There used to be spirited debate about political issues that are significant in our world. I enjoyed the debate very much and learned a lot from others on this board and I hope and believe that they learned from me as well.

I was thrilled to see the forums return and hoped to have the spirited debate we used to have.

Sadly, there is no more debate. No discussion. Every post (whether or not it is a new thread) is responded to by an off-topic "FR"

There is no discussion of the points made in the previous post. Therefore no honest discussion of anything. Why write a well-researched point-by-point post, if the only response will be an unrelated "FR" quoting what is trending on twitter?

It is sad to see what this forum has become. I will keep monitoring for contributors to join the discussion who actually WANT political discussion, rather than to ignore completely what has been posted, only to quote some random tweet on twitter.

I know I have said it before, but I am done, until we get better contributors. I will keep checking!

I've tried. Like you, I was very happy to see the forums return. It's interesting to see articles from other perspectives, or learn more about political issues than just what we see now, at face value. I enjoy digging to learn about issues and subjects. I enjoy going down the rabbit holes to decide for myself what I believe. And I can be convinced that I believed the wrong way. Or I can be shown nuance to an issue that I didn't know about. Talking about politics is far too tribal these days. But there are a lot of dumbasses on both sides. We should be able to laugh at it all, regardless of party. But instead it's tit for tat. I hope that it gets better, but I don't see that happening without more members joining in, maybe even new ones.

You miss my entire point. My point has nothing to do with the divisiveness in politics, or it being tit for tat.

That has been the case for decades.

My point is that there is no discussion on this forum.

BoscoX has been blocking our posts from his own view, and just filling up the threads with his own opinion, with no regard for our posts, whether they are new, or a response to his. It is like a 12 year old brat, putting her hands over her ears and sticking her tongue out.

I am here for political discussion and debate, not an exasperating interaction with a child.

No, I get your point, MJ. It sucks. And Bosco has only gotten worse these last few days.

The political section of the forum was fairly heated before the forums shut down, but there were a lot more people here. I don't know how to contact any of those members to even try to bring them back. But that's all I can think of that may work, until we get new blood around here.

But other than that, just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Do what you would normally do. Respond - even to those FRs - as you normally would. Because that IS the response, even if that's the form it takes. We don't have to change how we are just because someone else chooses to be childish.

I keep doing my normal with the FRs. Sometimes, they just give you the other side's talking points, but those can be very revealing, and reinforce our own takes. I'm waiting for one to just totally blow me away. To the point I question all of my political views entirely. It's not likely to happen though.

My posts are well-researched and contain a lot of critical thought, and are designed to stir debate and discussion. There is no debate here. It's just one right-wing propaganda citing after another with no discussion or debate about ANY of them. There is no use responding and building a discussion, because there is no response. Simply another twitter quote.

And he calls me an idiot because I don't agree with him. But he has never attempted to explain what it is I'm missing that would make me agree with him. Before you started posting again, it was just Bosco and myself.

I troll Bosco with my very existence. It doesn't take anything else. Just being me. So I deal with his incessant attacks by blowing them off. If mean words on the internet are the worst of my day, I'm doing pretty good.

But I didn't brace myself to be just excluded. I forgot that particular attack. Because there is more than just the drive-by FRs. I'm here too. But I guess that's not important.

And that is exactly how the two main parties in this country treat anyone they label as "other". Republicans want to attack us, like they do in other countries. And Democrats say " at least we don't attack you like they do in other countries". And we just want the promise of America, and the Constitution. We think all people being created equal means us too.

But anything that makes you "other" sets you apart, and puts you in a different category. Because straight white CIS males are in charge, and anything that threatens that control is not allowed. So females, cultural or racial minorities, homosexuals, transgenders, disabled, elderly, etc ... May be tolerated, but aren't included.

Neither party cares about our needs. The Supreme Court has given us any rights and sense of equality we have. Roe v Wade was decided in 1973. 50 years later, Congress hasn't codified abortion rights. There is still no federal law against lynching. Gay marriage isn't codified federal law, and could be overturned as well. Transgenders have to fight to use the damn bathroom, and other people have a say in which gender they are.

But the Dems don't attack us. So we start out choosing the lesser of two evils. But if we talk about ourselves and our needs, it's "identity politics". Um, yeah, we have identities. We are all more than one thing. But how we conduct ourselves has to be approved by those straight white CIS males.

So we get comfortably numb, and let the "microaggressions" from our "allies" slide, until we just can't anymore.

I was happy to see the forums return too, I still enjoy reading some of the old threads from years ago. It is a unique sort of history of debate, including making visible, how certain views of matters evolved. I am happy too, that the old "hide" button to block nonsensical monologues of certain socxs still works. It helps mental well-being indeed. There was no discussion possible then, there is none possible now.
I miss some of the previous regular posters, too. Some, not all, sometimes could contribute something inspiring new perspectives. Sadly many are apparently gone. Some, it seems, are waiting for (what?whose?when?why?) "approval" indefinitely. Some maybe got lost in time. Pity.

Honestly. I remember some nasty comments made in these rooms 10 years ago. It probably has gotten worse for sure. Politics and religion bring out the most passionate. I am glad to see these forums back up after many years gone

I don't know that poverty is a deterrent either, considering the government will pay for cell phone service to anyone eligible for SNAP benefits, as well as ship them a new device.

Nah, I just really don't fucking want to watch the damn things. Pretty sure I've been clear about that.

Too fancy for you huh? Perhaps it would suit you better to know that the federal government has been assisting those in need with phone service since Ronnie was in office.

You can call it the Obamaphone all you want, but the program was in place before your favorite Irishman took office. I guess Dubbyaphone just doesn't have the same racist ring to it.
