BoscoX -> "Democrats" - Cult Of Censorship (3/10/2023 5:35:28 PM)

Nothing liberal about anyone who votes for any member of that cult. Their Washington Post's motto is "Democracy Dies In Darkness" so they fight sunshine tooth and nail

quote:

Video - Matt Taibbi's opening statement on the Twitter Files and the censorship industrial complex:

"Twitter, Facebook, Google, and other companies developed a formal system for taking in moderation requests from every corner of government, from the FBI, DHS, HHS, DOD, the Global Engagement Center at State, even the CIA. For every government agency scanning Twitter, there were perhaps twenty quasi-private entities doing the same thing."

It’s Pretty Clear That Democrats, Liberal Media Really … Really … Hate Transparency

The carefully constructed liberal narrative is crumbling, and the usual suspects have responded by deep-throating the boot.

On Thursday, journalist Matt Taibbi testified before the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government as part of its inquiry into the Twitter Files. Taibbi has decades of journalistic experience (mostly at Rolling Stone magazine) and a long history of speaking truth to power.

During the Trump administration, such people were heroes. Left-leaning journalists were the semi-divine light-bringers of democracy, and democracy, we were told, “dies in darkness.”

But now that the progressive establishment, which never lost institutional power, has regained political power as well, the darkness has become their ally. Anyone doing real journalism is an enemy of the state.

Democratic Del. Stacey E. Plaskett of the Virgin Islands, the committee’s ranking member, illustrated this shift when she smeared Taibbi and fellow “Twitter Files” scribe Michael Shellenberger as “so-called journalists” during her opening statement.

Why “so-called”? With three decades of experience, multiple best-selling books to his name and bylines in prominent publications, it’s hard to say who counts as a journalist if Taibbi doesn’t. But the answer is simple. “Real” journalists advance the establishment narrative. You’re only a “real” journalist if the people who have the most to hide know they have nothing to fear from you.

But Plaskett wasn’t done. While questioning Taibbi, she pushed him to provide a date that might help her identify the source who gave Taibbi the “Twitter Files” documents.

“But I can’t give it to you unfortunately because this is a question of sourcing and I don’t give up — I’m a journalist — I don’t reveal my sources,” Taibbi responded, just like a good journalist would. Now imagine, for a moment, Republican lawmakers applying the same pressure to liberal reporters who relied on anonymous sources to publish hit pieces about Trump. You’d need earplugs to drown out all the shrieking about “fascism.”

Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz of Florida also joined in, accusing Taibbi of publishing “cherry-picked information.” When he tried to defend himself, she shouted him down, clearly more interested in a soundbite than in getting at the truth. She also ignored the fact that, in his Twitter Files reporting, Taibbi called out both parties for pushing the social media platform to censor content they didn’t like. He didn’t show favoritism. He just happened to be honest about which party’s ideology dominated Twitter and informed its decision-making process. There’s no need to cherry pick when the whole tree is rotten.

That committee hearing marked the second time in less than a week that Democrats and their allies did their best Nosferatu impression after journalists exposed their preferred narrative to sunlight.

Just days earlier, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell joined forces to condemn Fox News host and Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson’s decision to release portions of the more than 41,000 hours of footage from the Jan. 6 Capitol riot that he’d received from House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

McConnell said it was a “mistake” for Fox News to air Carlson’s segment and accused him of drawing “offensive and misleading conclusions” from the videos. Schumer went even further, calling on Fox to kick Carlson off the air.

What did Carlson do to deserve such outrage? He showed Brian Sicknick, the officer who supposedly died as a result of the riot, walking around healthy and alert. He revealed that previously released footage was deceptively edited to portray GOP Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley in an unflattering light. He showed cops escorting the QAnon Shaman, supposedly so dangerous that he deserved four years in prison, around the Capitol without ever attempting to detain him.

Was the riot a proud moment in the history of our great republic? Definitely not. But was it 9/11, Pearl Harbor, the Oklahoma City bombing and the Battle of Chancellorsville all rolled into one? No. And now that the footage is out there, the powers-that-be can no longer pretend that it was.

There’s nothing our leaders covet more than the power to adjust the Overton Window, to reach into a box of labels that range from “universally acknowledged truth” to “offensive conspiracy theory” and slap them on statements in whatever way best serves their agenda. When we notice they’re doing it, the labels stop sticking. And when that happens, they get very, very angry.

Effort to squash Biden family stories long predated Hunter laptop, newly released emails reveal
Aide to VP Biden in 2015 bragged she got reporter to admit she would "only use" negative information on Hunter Biden "if her editors hold a gun to her head."

Records newly released by the National Archives show efforts to suppress negative stories about the Biden family's business deals long predate the Hunter Biden laptop controversy, dating back to 2015 when an aide to then-Vice President Joe Biden boasted she got a reporter to "only use" negative information "if her editors hold a gun to her head."

The emails come from the Obama administration archives and were forced into the public through litigation by the America First Legal nonprofit public interest law firm. They chronicle efforts by Biden's then-aides in the vice president's office to suppress stories about Huter Biden's relationship with the Ukraine energy compamy Burisma Holdings during a Biden trip to Ukraine in December 2015.

Stephen Miller, the president of America First Legal, said the records suggest the news media has been complicit in burying negative news about the Biden family for at least a decade.

"Joe Biden and the Biden vice presidency were intimately involved in the Hunter Biden Burisma affair," Miller said on the Thursday edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "They were intimately aware of it. They were intimately aware of the ethical objections, and they were intimately involved in trying to spin and control the press about it."

Two arrested after Antifa attack pro-life students, shut down speaking event at Virginia Commonwealth University

Hoskins was charged with simple assault and Marvin was charged with disorderly conduct.

During a Students for Life of America (SFLA) event on Wednesday at Virginia Commonwealth University, pro-life organizers were forced by campus police to shut down their event after Antifa members got violent, assaulting pro-life attendees. Two people were arrested.

The event featured SFLA President Kristin Hawkins and Student Ambassador Isabel Brown who were set to talk about "lies pro-choicers believe," according to an SFLA blog post.

The event took a violent turn, with a number of pro-life students and SFLA staff members being assaulted, which according to SFLA, resulted in "several complaints filed and EMTs called to the scene to treat injuries."

President of Students for Life at VCU, Autumn Walser, received an injury to her leg, while another fellow student received cuts and scratches from an aggressive protestor clawing at her. SLFA Documentarian Kevin Feliciano was struck with and blocked by signs to prevent the recording of the Antifa assailants.

"Antifa came for a fight," said Students for Life of America Executive Vice President Tina Whittington who attended the event.

"Students for Life will be providing security for Autumn on campus for the near future until we can be sure that she is safe here," said Hawkins. "And we will be demanding that VCU invite me and Isabel back to hold an event that is safe for all to attend."

"The protestors had three chants they kept recycling, ‘Fascists Go Home;’ ‘Nazis Go Home;’ and ‘F**k Pro-lifers,’” said Whittington. "It was so ridiculous. That’s the definition of fascism and Naziism — not allowing for free speech. They wouldn’t allow other ideas to be expressed, and in a way, they won, even though pro-life students stayed to talk after the event."

NYC Jury Finds Douglass Mackey Guilty in Insane "Voter Suppression" Case for Sharing Anti-Hillary Clinton Meme

Douglass Mackey, also known as Ricky Vaughn on Twitter, has been found guilty on charges of election interference by a federal court in the Eastern District of New York.

The charges stem from a meme Mackey posted on Twitter in 2016, jokingly encouraging supporters of Hillary Clinton to vote by text.

The Department of Justice alleged that this constituted election interference, despite being unable to provide evidence that anyone was deceived by the meme. Mackey argued that he was simply trying to create a viral meme, and that other Clinton supporters had posted similar memes encouraging Trump supporters to vote by text without consequence.

You can't do it because all you do is lie.

JVoV -> RE: "Democrats" - Cult Of Censorship (4/9/2023 11:55:39 AM)

The timeline just doesn't work to make the Twitter Files related to the Democrats or liberals in any way, as Trump was in office when it all began.

I don't pay attention to Twitter, so I have no need to pay attention to the Twitter Files. Did government agencies intervene? Probably. And anyone that violated any laws should be prosecuted. But the laws and agency policies need to be identified, so that Congress knows wtf went on exactly.

LOL... Actually, censorship does not have to involve complete restriction from purchase or ownership. And it doesn't have to involve adults.

I was talking about the massive Republican efforts to ban and censor books in school libraries. Basically substituing their own judgment for the judgement of parents of what students should have access to view and read.

It's not a lie. It is happening across the country and is well documented.

Not only that. Textbook publishers in Florida (for example) are having to censor history, JUST so they can sell their books to schools.
Take the Rosa Parks example...

From the COMPLETE truth:
“The law said African Americans had to give up their seats on the bus if a white person wanted to sit down.”

TO the watered down

“She was told to move to a different seat because of the color of her skin,” - No mention of WHITE people telling her to move to a different seat. And nothing about it be codified in law.

TO the sanitized

"She was unfairly told to move to a different seat."

Censorship anyone?

Babylon Bee, Tim Pool File Lawsuit Against California Attorney General Over New Social Media Law

Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon said Wednesday that the satire outlet, podcaster Tim Pool, and Minds, Inc. filed a lawsuit against California’s attorney general, alleging a new law regulating social media companies violates the First Amendment.

In a Substack post, Dillon wrote that the plaintiffs filed the complaint against California attorney general Rob Bonta to stop state officials from enforcing AB 587, a new law that took effect this year that requires social media companies to file quarterly reports detailing content moderation policies with the Attorney General’s Office.

Such content moderation policies include several speech categories the state could label as misinformation/disinformation, extremism/radicalization, and hate speech. Failing to file reports could lead to the state imposing fines for non-compliance.

According to the lawsuit, AB 587 was “written with the express intent to discourage expression” of constitutionally protected viewpoints and failed the vagueness doctrine of the Fourteenth Amendment, which requires criminal laws to state explicitly and definitely what conduct is punishable.

“If Big Tech is tasked by the state with eliminating hateful or misinformative content, they’ll stuff everything they don’t like into those categories, including opinions, jokes, and even factual statements,” Dillon said. “We’ve already experienced it first hand.”

Last year, Twitter banned The Babylon Bee from the social media platform for an article that jokingly named Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary Rachel Levine, a biological male who identifies as a transgender woman, as “Man of the Year.” However, Elon Musk, a vocal fan of The Babylon Bee, restored the account after acquiring the platform.

However, while the former Twitter regime worked actively to censor and ban prominent accounts like the Bee, California lawmakers penned the new law that demands more action from social media companies to silence voices the state considers hate and harassment, claiming many of the deadly attacks nationwide share a common thread on social media.

“They’re linked to social media shooters who are radicalized, often with a toxic brew of white supremacy and extremist ideology, through the incredible power of social media,” California State Senator Jesse Gabriel, author of AB 587, told ABC last year.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILY WIRE APP

“We’re not telling you what to do, but tell policymakers, and tell the public, what you’re doing,” Gabriel added.

Upon signing it into law, California Governor Gavin Newsom said the state would “not stand by as social media is weaponized to spread hate and disinformation that threaten our communities and foundational values as a country.”
