Congress has a week to pass some sort of budget or an extension, otherwise, the federal government shuts down.,we've been through this before and it really should come as no surprise to anyone that we're here now. The politics of how we got to this point again are fairly obvious and less interesting than the political fallout possible from an another actual shutdown. Some Americans didn't feel much impact from the last shot down, and the same will probably be true this time. Really, unless federal money is something you, your family, or your business actually need, the issue is moot, and you probably want the government to at least control their spending. If you rely on federal funds and programs, you probably wish you actually got more, so you'd feel the budget should include that. Many federal employees will be furloughed, except "essential " workers. The military and federal police will still have to work, but won't get paid until a budget can be passed. Any federal employee deemed essential will also be required to work and get paid later. So what could the potential political fallout be and who is it most likely to damage politically? President Biden will look bad to some, but they probably already think bad of him anyway. I expect very little to change for him. Granted, it would all depend on how he handles leading the country during the shutdown, but I don't think many will change their current view of him regardless. The Senate? That's not really where the media seems focused on lately. There will probably be those on either side speaking about this on the political shows, but I don't expect much to come from it. There may be some voters that still hold a grudge next November, though. The person most at risk, politically, seems to be Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy. There are Congressmen that may try to oust him as Speaker if a deal is made that doesn't matter their approval. Democrats could vote to keep McCarthy as Speaker, or vote for their own candidate.

I think, correct me if I am wrong, this only happens in America. For people not in America if you did a couple of lines on what is a shutdown, why does it matter etc. It would help people like me out. If you could start with who, what and why is Funding. Is it like me paying wages and funding all department's or is it more like I will give a 2 trillion tax give away because I am mental. You were correct about House Kevin McCarthy but even I knew it would take one dissenter. It cant have just been one can it? Did he give that condition to every republican and democrat in the house. What Kevin McCarthy should have did is keep fighting. I lost count after 10 but you see my point? A bill ensuring funding until 17 November received overwhelming support, and was signed into law by President Joe Biden minutes before a deadline.

A shutdown is complete failure. A truly dysfunctional government. Everything deemed nonessential gets out on hold. Our military just doesn't get paid. People get totally screwed. Thing like Social Security payments still get paid on time, but new retirees will likely have to wait for the first checks, and disability determinations that already take too long for anyone going through the process, would likely be delayed. I'm not really sure which government agencies and programs would cease when a shutdown occurs. I do know that not being certain of critical funding can put agencies at risk, can make civil servants look for other forms of employment, and can make this country if not the world, less secure. The budget process should never be used as such a political football. Really, a standard budget that everyone can agree to should be easypeasy, triggering automatically. It should only be changes in spending beyond the standard that is even debated. And anyone in Congress should be penalized for failing to do the most basic part of their job. I say lock em all up until they can get their shit together. I would say off with their heads, but that would probably just delay the process that much more.

A shutdown is a completely foreign concept to the rest of the world. If funding has always been part of the bill of rights I am unaware or to be more precise the origin and the why. To me, it makes more sense if they just pass it no matter who is in charge. Other bills like Medicare and Trump's lunacy of giving away 2 trillion to the filthy rich and big Evilcorp require their own bills. Which is what I think happens. Bills like those I suspect come with an additional, say 10 year, staggered cost which should be tacked onto the government funding. it is truly bizarre how the Republicans claim fiscal prudence and want brutal and savge cuts yet they have added far more to the debt and deficit than the Democrat's over the years. Trump's free £1.5 trillion give away to the 0.1% wont pay for itself quite the opposite. Biden's bill will pay for itself. One way to look at it is why do you think Elon Musk is the richest man in the world? It was inevitable the world had to go green and pretty much everyone else was alseep on the blocks.
