JVoV -> The seat vacated by Santos (12/7/2023 4:51:19 PM)

In case you haven't said "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK" today:
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/justice-department/candidate-george-santos-old-seat-convicted-jan-6-charges-testifying-no-rcna128442

Fucking dumbass.

So a dude campaigning for George Santos' vacated Congressional seat has been convicted on Jan 6th charges. Probably just threw his name in the hat to be an attention whore, but I suppose he was betting on a different verdict, so he could be elected to Congress and insurrect some more.

People...

wickedsdesires -> RE: The seat vacated by Santos (12/8/2023 5:52:15 PM)

Thanks. I follow a little but no real depth. Santos was entertaining in a completely fucked in the head way. I see he is now whoring himself out on some website. Given these crimes were all common was all common knowledge before they all ran, including Trump, who voted for them and why?

Seriously who votes for these people and why?

trump will win jvov heed my words. How are you on uk stuff?

JVoV -> RE: The seat vacated by Santos (12/8/2023 9:01:21 PM)

UK stuff? I have a Spice Girls cd. Somewhere.

I'm aware of the major political news, and I know it's the Tory's and the Labor Party. Or is it Labour, cuz all British and shit? Idk.

I know nationalism is growing there as well. But politicians do stupid or terrible shit everywhere, so if there's a particular story or event you wanna talk about, make a thread for it. I'll try not to respond with things like "bomb em", "shoot em", " ding dong the witch is dead", or even make fun of Charles's nose.

JVoV -> RE: The seat vacated by Santos (12/8/2023 9:07:57 PM)

Santos may be a terrible person, but the complete absurdity of him makes for really funny SNL skits. Saturday Night Live had some great skits during the Trump years too.

Do you have a cd player? I can tell you a first hand story about Posh and the school. Her dad used to drive the talentless bitch in a roll Royce to its school. I always wondered what her dad did for a living.

Second hand story. Trust me it is real. Us scots and English occasionally mix in Puerto rico

JVoV -> RE: The seat vacated by Santos (12/8/2023 11:40:18 PM)

I actually don't have any device that would play CDs now. I don't own a television either. Most of my media comes from streaming services these days.
I have a massive record collection with no way to play those either. I have laserdiscs, mini-discs, DVDs, Blu rays.. and handful of 8track tapes. I figure if I outlive a few more technological advances, I'll be on that show Hoarders.

It was easy to move on from cassettes and videotapes, but I find I keep purchasing the same movies and music regardless of the format. I even have old disk drives, with Gigs of music & video that I will probably never need to use again.

If the internet goes down, I'm kinda fucked.

wickedsdesires -> RE: The seat vacated by Santos (12/10/2023 9:25:32 AM)

Sameish here but I have 2 TVs and a cable box I never turn on for years at a time. One never knows when a biggie solar flare will hit and take out the internet plunging society into the dark ages of the likes we haven't seen since the Orange Dictator won.

Cameo, a website where people can have celebrities record a message to fans for a price.

In Santos' case, that price is $150, and he's purportedly willing to talk about a variety of things: birthdays, holidays, give pep talks, or even roast someone.

He initially sold each video for $75 but quickly changed the price to $150 just hours after launching his Cameo profile.

Santos' profile on the site lists himself as a "Former congressional 'Icon'!" — he also notes he's "The Expelled member of Congress from New York City."

McCarthy is gone too or has he? What's the Majority in the House then? Thats got to be wafer thin.

JVoV -> RE: The seat vacated by Santos (12/10/2023 11:38:38 AM)

NcCarthy is supposed to step down by the end of the year, costing the GOP a second seat. They've had a 5 seat margin, I think, so this would take them down to 3, if nothing were to happen. That nothing is unlikely, considering both California and New York have Democrat governors who can appoint an interim replacement until special elections are held. So the GOP would likely only have a majority of 1 for a bit.

wickedsdesires -> RE: The seat vacated by Santos (12/10/2023 11:55:45 PM)

I think it would take them down to one? also see below

You need to clear this up with me
1.Is McCarthy resigning. He was sacked was he not?
2.Or not standing next cycle?

JVoV -> RE: The seat vacated by Santos (12/11/2023 1:16:19 AM)

McCarthy was sacked as Speaker, not as Representative, so he can still resign as Rep.

I really have no info on the possibilities of the special elections, so wouldn't want to even hazard a guess at what will happen. I do know that people are fucking idiots though.

wickedsdesires -> RE: The seat vacated by Santos (12/12/2023 10:33:24 PM)

The numbers please?

Have you ever looked up Mike Johnson? Mike Johnson Is Now the Most Powerful Election Denier in Washington and that is his sane shit.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is not just a casual election denier, a cynical pol winking at the MAGA mob. Johnson was the congressional architect of the effort to overturn the 2020 election, advocating an interpretation of the Constitution so outlandish that not even the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority could swallow it.

JVoV -> RE: The seat vacated by Santos (12/13/2023 12:55:36 AM)

Numbers for what? I told you the math already. The GOP hpstaered this term with a majority of 5. They lost Santos, which takes them down to +4. McCarthy is set to resign, which will take them down to +3. Both of those seats are in states with Democrat governors, who can appoint someone to fill the seat until a special election is held in those districts. It is very likely that Democrat governors would npappiint Democrat Representatives to fill the seats, thus flipping them so that the Republicans have only a majority of 1, temporarily. When the special election winners are in place, that majority may go back up to +3, if both elections are won by Republicans, but even if Democeats win both elections, the GOP would sill retain a +1 majority, leaving Johnson in control as Speaker.

The total number of Representatives is 435, so there can really never be a tie in a two-party system.

Mind you, it only takes a simple majority to have a President impeached in the House. The Senate requires a two-thirds vote to remove them from office, but that doesn't really seem like the point in the current political environment.

And of course, these are only the numbers we know right now. Somebody could drop dead from a peanut allergy or something and change everything.
