I wouldnt claim a thorough knowledge of Alba because not enough progressing north of the Firth. Having tasted Haggis and black and white pudding doesnt count imho. Expat friends (from both sides of the Tweed) lucky to escape the Führage foolishness in time either. Being twin city of Edinburgh helped.

Oh be warned, never ask a historian to tell you history. I ll try to force the urge to drown you in Bavarian history waters here. It's the SE bump on the German map reaching out to Austria and Bohemia aka Czech republic, independent from past-Roman to 1866 or 1918 or 1990 when we lost the last relics of state sovereignty. We are the highlanders over here, having (had) our own royals (part Stuart btw), own flag, own hymn, own lingo, own (mostly unlucky) army (- really bad choices of allies) and police (unlucky shots in '23), own football clubs, were successful in shipping our maddest weirdoes over the pond where their descendants do their most possible damage now.
