I would not find any benefit in frequenting these boards if they weren't as diverse as they are. It is exactly that diversity that holds the attraction for me...all of the differing personalities, thoughts, ideas and opinions.

I don't get into alot of the "Polls" sections of the boards and I know there are a whole group of people here who concentrate most of their time here who I don't know very well. But I know that if I am just looking for a quick pick me up, a bit of humor or a sweet sentiment I can always count on scrolling down here and finding it. So to all of those who pretty much stay down here, I thank you for that.

As to the other areas of the boards, there are far too many people I have respect for to list them...and I would undoubtedly miss more than just a few if I tried. There are very few people here that I just avoid because I have found that over time, there is just no level on which I can relate to them. I can generally walk away with something...it may be something profound that changes my perceptions...or it may be something that validates or confirms something for me....or it may be just sheer entertainment. Regardless....I am glad that you are ALL here and I'd like to thank everyone for their time and participation....without you this place wouldn't have the appeal it does.

And I would officially like to say that Tamerofiwilds is on my list because he is just soooooo damn sexy in that pic and I know he has a twisted, sadistic mind and that just makes me droooooooool !!!!!

More seriously though.  There's a rational way to point something out, for example, "Threads like these leave too many people out, therefore I will not participate," and emotional, "No one ever mentions me!  It's not fair!  Other people shouldn't be allowed to hear that they're doing well!"

One is a statement of fact, even if passive-aggressive in a way.  The other reminds me of kindergarten, and is complaining.

I earnestly believe that people not being allowed to receive accolades and rewards for good work is what is wrong with the world today, be it in school or in the work force.  Unions work on this principle.  If we had a union here, it would work as follows: If someone has over 200 posts in this forum, they get mentioned by 30% of the posters.  If they have 1000, 50% have to mention them.  If they have 2000, everyone has to list them.  That's not the way these forums work, and that's not the way humans work.  In my opinion, any system which imposes fairness benefits only those who would otherwise not make it.

And of rant, and I do hope I hijacked this thread well enough.

Yours,

benji

Edited to clarify (I hope)

I dont know.  I kind of think as adults we should be secure enough to not need applause for something smart we may have said.  What I have noticed is that I seldom receive responses  if I remain neutral or positive.  And that doesnt bother me in the least.

But when I take a strong stance on something, all of a sudden, people who dont normally give me the time of day, are posting arguments to me left and right.  I find that fascinating and mostly a turn off.

Enigma,

These threads are not PC.  Each person will mention their favourites specifically, and 99% of CM will not be included on each list.  Granted, it's more fun to be mentioned than not, but don't piss on the rest of our collective parades.

I'm not a fan of Valentines day for that exact reason, but I don 't go burning down flowery gazebos because of it.

Going on an emotional rant about how this is unfair may get you a few immediate mentions out of pity, but really, it does not contribute to the forums.  It's your right to post anything anywhere, but I thought I'd say how I feel.

And yes, I know, not PC, what I just wrote.  I don't do well with complainers in real life, and I don't do well with them here.  I also know I will not make any friends through this, but if one person learns something, mission accomplished.

Yours,

benji

I dont want your pity benji or anyone elses..Im simply stateing as I feel and like I said Im in a pissy mood and im venting and ranting because this thread caught me the wrong way at the wrong time was I complaing hell yeah but let me have the small plessure in a time when i feel like utter shit without getting on my ass about it!!! I know Im beeing a total bitch and those of you that really care about me here know the reason why and those people will excuse my bitchy behavior today and honestly they are the only ones that really matter ... they know who they are so no names need be mentioned.. my rant was simply that these threads get old and have the potential to cause some hurt feelings. Im not looking to have people post pitty posts for me im simply venting but you my dear pup as well as everyone els can see it however you like....

Those that matter dont care and those that care dont matter

No, as adults we should not. I mean, getting a response, within a debate or discussion, that's why we're here, but a thread like this is not necessary.  But a thread like this lets us tell each other, outside of a discussion, that we like their style.

That's what a dicussion forum is for - discussing.  If I don't want to hear why I'm wrong, I don't post.  If I want to be agreed with all the time, I buy a dog.  But if I want to tell the world how I feel, the world gets to tell me how it feels.  Fair is fair.

Just my opinion.

No, probably not.  But then, we really don't need most of these forums.  Actually, we really don't need the forums, or the site.

Just as random stupidity pisses a lot of people off, these contests piss some people off, and just about anything anybody does pisses someone off.  If you don't like it, don't read it.

Yours,

benji

Bratling, you know i love you. But i really don't see this thread as a popularity contest.

This is about respect. It's about respecting people's opinions, and views, not whether or not they're like by 90% of the CM population. I'm sure not everyone like LuckyAlbatross, but her opinions are very respected.

You don't have to like someone to respect them.

Your winging on it is rapidly becoming old too dear. As said already, don't like it? Not interested in it? then avoid it. Leave it to those who DO want it!

Enigma,

As much as I hate to say this, but you're going down the whining slippery slope.  As has been said to many other posters, repeatedly, whining is not an attractive trait.  Right now, you are coming across as an attention needy, insecure, drama queen.  If you're not on these lists, ask yourself why.  I don't know, but saying other people may not have these lists because you don't feature on them is petty and reminds me of why I don't want to have children.

Yours,

benji
