i close my eyes and
allow my soul to soar
drifting back in time and place

the world around me fades
sounds become distant
and i enter the shadowland

i see a little girl,
lost and forever searching
for that which will never be...

i see a little girl
reaching out her hands
to her invisible father....
he is only a distant memory...
as his shadow goes back
to the place from where he came...

I sense somehow
that he is only a dream
a dream of mist and longing...
and the realization that he is the dream unfullfilled.

and still she searched for him
foolishly looking
in the eyes
and bedrooms
of many men
always coming back empty
alone

all she has is a faded picture
that she holds close to her heart
the dreams forever safe in her soul

I smile as i realize i know her...
i know her soul, her heart, her mind..

she is me...

and still today
you'll know where to find me
still searching
in the shadowland
where distant dreams
and faded pictures
come alive
