Interestingly, this was a topic of much debate in a recent women's leather event where one of the entrants was female, identified as gay and refuses to call herself a lesbian because it would disrespect her involvements with transmen. (Her former Master was FtM.)

You're in a particularly tough crowd there in Chicago! I come out there a few times a year and have come across some really traumatized or discouraged lesbian female subs.

i'm new to the forum so please forgive any errors but i felt that there is something i may be able to offer the topic. i identify as bisexual because being with a man is not "icky" for me. Karen and i have been together almost 9 years. She is Domme, however does not identify as such which is her right and choice. Back to the subject at hand, i am also married and in the process of separation. During the 9 years we have all lived together and she respected his place as he was here first. Now that we are separating she states i can have no other which i am very happy with and feel secure. Karen identifies as Lesbian and would not accept being with a man. She does gravitate toward bisexual women though rather than with a woman who identifies as lesbian. When I asked her about this she simply stated that it is her choice with no other details so i accept this. If i never have another man, sexually, i will still not identify as lesbian as this is not my sexual orientation. i am simply in love with Karen regardless of her gender, it is her heart, soul, strength and passion that has captured my heart.
The reason i wanted to respond is that it is important to know our inner selves, accept ourselves in our fullness and when we do, the one will come along who accepts us in return completely. Just my opinion on the matter. How can another get to know us unless we open up fully to them? How can we open up fully unless we do the work to understand and accept ourselves in all of our needs? Would i have accepted myself to this degree without her? This i can not answer.
