Tax his land,
Tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule.

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirts,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.

Tax his booze,
Tax his beers,
If he cries,
Tax his tears.

Tax his bills,
Tax his gas,
Tax his notes,
Tax his cash.

Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough.

If he hollers,
Tax him more,
Tax him till he's good and sore.

Tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays.

Put these words up on his tomb,
"Taxes drove me to my doom!"

And when he's gone,
We won't relax,
We'll still be after the inheritance TAX!!

COMMENTS: Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and there was prosperity, absolutely no national debt, the largest middle class in the world and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened?????

Chaingang -> RE: At first I thought this was funny... Then, I realized "How True it is!!" (8/7/2006 11:21:47 AM)

Short answer: The Civil War.

The 100 years time frame is off by about 170 years...when is it that you think we had no national debt?

Dammit, Renegade!  Even when I so sorely want to agree with you, you make it impossible!  I agreed with the whole damn shebang until you got to the, "and Mom stayed home to raise the kids," part.  You've got to be kidding me!  You think that's a good measurement of a booming economy?  Uh uh.  Right.  I wholeheartedly agree that one parent should stay home with the kids if they can, but who says it has to be the mom?

Please, stop throwing wrenches into the works that have absolutely nothing to do with the idea you're trying to get across.  I was actually happy that I was going to get to write "Heck yeah!" and leave it at that.  I'm so disappointed.

michaelGA2 -> RE: At first I thought this was funny... Then, I realized "How True it is!!" (8/7/2006 11:27:57 AM)

maybe we need another civil war to correct this overabundance of taxes...maybe not. who's to tell

gooddogbenji -> RE: At first I thought this was funny... Then, I realized "How True it is!!" (8/7/2006 11:31:01 AM)

Oh yeah, and public education was grand.  Wait, there was none.

But what about social systems?  Like EI?  Oh, right.

But you gotta admit, all those government programs, like space missions, research, and development was....  hmmmm.....

Not saying the amount of taxes we pay is good, but think of all the things you get out of it.  Some things you may not agree with (Iraq war, for example) but that is not a taxation issue, that is a policy issue.

I, personally, feel that the government should make and enforce laws, defend our borders, provide very basic services to the truly needy, and for the rest, go away.  It would lower taxes immensely, but then people would complain about the rich getting richer...

So either vote for a smaller government or shut up.  Because complaining about high taxes, but not wanting to give up anything makes people look like idiots.

benji

What is a Commie?
One who has yearnings,
For equal division
Of unequal earnings,
Idler or idiot,
For both he is willing
To fork out his penny,
And pocket your shilling.

A child who does not believe in Communism is heartless.
An adult who does is brainless.

I am not arguing with the gender equality issue in the above, but I am interested in the simple fact that by almost immediately increasing the available work force by literally millions if we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot with the women's movements of last century. I like gender equality, but it was paid for at the expense of worker value and individual earning potential.

But, something was bound to happen soon enough anyway to wreck the status quo...

Now with globalization we might as well pack up capitalism and go home. I honestly believe something else will have to take its place. This is a world of billions of people with good jobs for only a fraction of them.

World economic policy is the true Kobayashi Maru scenario. How and by what means do you stave off disaster?

(Apologies for the Star Trek reference).

I agree it doesn't matter the gender of the one staying home being the care giver but the quality of the care that they give. I have a gent that lives across the street from me who is a "house husband" he does a wonderful job at it and his wife and kids are all happy. Isn't that what its truely about?

Just imagine what would happen if there were no payroll tax deductions and each one of us received an itemized statement --with all this nonsense --and a total on the bottom that was marked ''past due''.

Brother....

Keep these posts coming.....their repetitive nature might wake-up a few ''Rip Van Winkle's''.

Well, when the politicians take office and immediately start voting themselves pay increases and better benefits, the money has to come from somewhere.

One example, New Jersey.....last month, the state government shut down, workers were told to stay home, the casinos, which generate about a million dollars a DAY for the state budget closed, all while the politicians took almost a week to finally balance the budget.  Now, what we pay in car insurance rates in this state (the #1 state for high rates) would make most of you lose your lunch.  But guess what?  Their car insurance is paid, as part of their benefit package.  Wouldn't want to give that up and pay it out of pocket like the rest of us do.  So, rather than cut any of their own exhorbitant benefits, they raised the state income tax to 7%  (Not just to cover car insurance, I'm just citing it as one example of where the money goes)

Sounds like a paraphrase of something Winston Churchill said (and I'm likely not perfect here), "A man who is not a liberal in his 20's has no heart, one who is not conservative in his 30's has no head."

krikket -> RE: At first I thought this was funny... Then, I realized "How True it is!!" (8/7/2006 6:00:42 PM)

Reminds me of the old adage:  The only thing certain in this life is death and taxes.

"Conservative by the time you're 35"
"If you're not a liberal when you're 25, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative by the time you're 35, you have no brain." There is no record of anyone hearing Churchill say this. Paul Addison of Edinburgh University makes this comment: "Surely Churchill can't have used the words attributed to him. He'd been a Conservative at 15 and a Liberal at 35! And would he have talked so disrespectfully of Clemmie, who is generally thought to have been a lifelong Liberal?"

So you live in cave, use no roads, no electricity, municipal water system, never used the medical system, have no need for police, firemen, military, education system, etc etc and so many etc's...

Or you are so wealthy you can pay cash on the spot for all these things whenever you need them.

Yep. I plan on it.

But seriously, it seems to me you post every e-mail you get.  You don't research the facts, you don't mull it over, you copy and paste.

Nothing wrong with that per se, but it just means that you're wrong on something more often than not.

Perhaps, before posting an e-mail you got, look it up, think it over, and then post it, along with an educated opinion on it.

benji

That accurately describes my political evolution, which is why I've always thought that an absurdly stupid quote.

No, I don't enjoy being taxed, but I consider it a small price to pay for living in a society which cares for the needy, which maintains a military and police force to protect me, which paves the roads, and which invests in science.
