bandit25 -> RE: Whores..what say you? (8/11/2006 3:52:45 AM)

Yeah, I have to go with puella and LAM.

KennelDeSade2 -> RE: Whores..what say you? (8/11/2006 4:21:27 AM)

I will not allow my girl to be a whore for the simple reason that whores are professionals, and taking money would void her amatuer status and thereby disquallify her, for any future Olympic Games participation.

Jasmyn -> RE: Whores..what say you? (8/11/2006 4:51:15 AM)

Puella, I don't take what you have said in your post as a validation that I was incorrect in my opening one, infact it helps to prove it, thank you.

'Virgin' as 'young girl' or 'young women' is a 'puella' by a different name...  that being that very real time in a young girl's life where she was neither under her father's control, nor a husbands ... she had the freedom of her growing years, the desires and hormones to explore her sex, her burgeoning womenhood, how to use it, how to beguile, how to exact her feminine charms...the actual sex act ...was neither here nor there ....and 'virgin' did not become synonymous with the actually act of penetration until some time well after the first ever record of it's origins ...  ... so I stand by what I said in my opening post ... the 'virgin' was a woman/girl who was not under a man's control, and yes, even her father's ... virgo intacta or not ... engagement and marriage is what made her lose her 'virgin' status...not the breaking of her hymen ...

& LaM, you're dictionary definition confirms it ...

1.  A girl of marriageable age.

Pehaps, Puella, the puella came to be the girl who wasn't a 'virgin' but also was yet to 'marry' ?  A 'young maiden' ...which would befit her unwedded status.

Hope you all have got your thinking caps on ...

Food for thought... is good for the belly.

People into bdsm are just as prudish about sexuality as anyone else.  Which means when I've discussed whoring among bdsm groups (as I often have), I tend to get the same reactions as I do in vanilla groups.  They don't understand it, they have tons of misconceptions about it, they feel awkward, and often have problems seeing an actual whore as someone worth respecting.

cloudboy -> RE: Whores..what say you? (8/11/2006 7:03:13 AM)

I'll just say one anectdotal thing. My wife has always hated Julia Roberts, largely because of how her acting career was launched by the film Pretty Woman, which romanticized the life of prostitutes.

I agree with Zeno, women don't become prostitutes as a first career choice or from a station of empowerment. No, the reverse is true.

Got any references for all this? Because the Oxford Latin Dictionary (P.G.W. Glare) contradicts what you're saying. These are the definitions for "uirgo":

1. A girl of marriageable age.
2. A woman who is sexually intact, a virgin.
3. A woman existing in a (permanent) state of virginity. [The most famous example of No. 3 would be the Vestal Virgins.]
4. The constellation and zodiacal sign Virgo.
5. One of the aqueducts of Rome, noted for the coolness of its water. [/font]

Clearly, its an anti feminist Tome.

My tiny, irreputable Random House Dictionary has this:

2. An umarried girl or woman.

In the old days and even today, #2 somewhat corresponds to Jasmyn's definition, albeit, by extrapolation.

Lashra -> RE: Whores..what say you? (8/11/2006 7:14:15 AM)

Some of the best whores in history have been men. I think anyone who speaks their mind, is independent or doesnt fit in the norm of society risks being labeled something. Society just feels it has to put a person down for being different.

These women hating religions are nothing but a farce set up as a way to control the populace. If you control the hand that rocks the cradle you can control the world and its worked so far.

Well all I can say is this, Im an independent woman, I speak my mind if people like it fine, if not they can fuck off[:)] If they want to call me a whore, no problem. I'll just say I'm a damn good one.

Whores of the world, unite!

raiken -> RE: Whores..what say you? (8/11/2006 7:22:23 AM)

i can't seem to get the saying out of my mind how "it takes one to know one"...hmmmmm

i like being who i am and if that means that in some one's mind they perceive me as a whore, then fine, cuz i know that somewhere down deep inside, those that call the names quite often, have a deep longing to be on the other side of their tongue.

So if being a whore is so empowering,why are so many still under the control of male pimps?

This is where we get the term STUPID whore.

Nit to mention that taking money for sex is illegal, and can get them busted, and clubs shut down. There are reasons to be prudish about some things.

Actually the stupid whores don't have pimps. They tend to be the ones that get found dead in ditches.

Hear, hear. And as the lifestyle becomes exponentially more fashionable the cultural status quo will become more apparent within it.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Whores..what say you? (8/11/2006 1:17:16 PM)

There is a world of difference between "a girl of marriageable age" and "a woman not under a male's control."  Most girls of marriageable age in Rome were under their father's control.  (Ever heard of the word "paterfamilias"?)  And a woman not under a male's control could be of any age.  She could be a grandmother.

Why don't you just give this up?
