CollaredLilPet -> Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (12/27/2004 4:24:54 PM)

i am new to the scene. just recently taken under the wing of a wonderful Domme. However a few weeks ago i came down with the STRANGEST illness. although, i now have a Domme i am also married to a straight man. we do not swing and i have no lovers other than he and Mistress. he and i, before we ventured into the lifestyle, still like a lil bit of kink now and then. several days after my ovulation started last month i got these horrid cramps. it went on for two days before i was doubled over in pain, taken to the hospital, poked, prodded, injected with morphine (which to my dismay didn't even work), ultrasounded, the whole nine fricken yards. i found out the ailment was cervicitis. my cervix was inflamed. The common cause of this is clamidea (pardon the mispell there) or gonoreah (mispell there too?). The doctor said 95% of people with this problem have an STD of some sort from some various partner. But, that for me was not only improbable, but impossible. My husband and i are both clean of everything. So then came the other 5%. He said that any vaginal intrusion or a rough or unclean object could cause this nasty lil booger of a pain. *light goes off* SEX TOYS.

Let me put this into perspective. i got an infection with pain the magnitude of apendicitis because my husband fingered me too vigorously and then used a dildo that had not been cleaned properly.

Please, Sirs and Ma'ams and all the subbies, take care of your partners and your toys... STD's and yeast infections are common... but as it has been addressed other places on here, the sneaky bugs are the ones that will really F*ck you up in the long run...

Also, don't share toys. You don't know where they've been. Even if you think you do.

SEX TOYS.

Orrrrr .... maybe you're not the only person your Domme has played with, and she isn't too thorough at cleaning her toys. Unless you're certain you're the only one the toy is being used on, it's a good practice to wash them before and afterwards, or to use a barrier like a new condom or cellophane wrap.

{{s4h .... just read your entire post ... didn't mean to repeat what you'd already stated .... ar}}

Orrrrr .... is your husband uncircumcised? Sometimes bacteria can be introduced that way as well. Although, it would mean your husband's hygiene practices aren't up to par.

RealityFix -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (12/27/2004 11:51:43 PM)

Indeed, insertion toys need to be of things like pure silicone. That nasty "gummy rubber" is too porous to clean properly.

I never ever shared toys, and I'd soak them in bleach and boil them after every use. Some std's can stay viable outside of the body for quite a while.

CollaredLilPet -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (12/28/2004 12:24:46 PM)

i have been involved with my Domme since i've been well. They are infact my toys, never been used on ANYONE else. The dildo in question is medical pyrex, quite pricey i might add (yay tax returns) but as was mentioned RealityFix, some yuckies can live outside of the body and improper cleaning must have been the culpret in my infection. I just wanted to pass on the caution to others...

learning from others mistakes is much more comfy than finding out first hand. [:D]

velvetvixen -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (12/28/2004 12:41:09 PM)

Although I am the only one who has ever used my toys, we always cover what we can with a condom and wash everything with Clorox clean up, then I wash with an antibacterial soap before we play. I clean up so I know the toys are clean.

I am squimish about germs so I wouldn't share toys with anyone, even if I cleaned everyone's toys.

sub4hire -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (12/29/2004 4:43:08 PM)

If it is glass, why don't you throw it in the dishwasher between uses? I know mine has a sanitize cycle. It heats up the water even further than it comes out of my water heater.
Nothing can survive through it.

Of course a jelly dildo would have a very bad time living through it.

GoddessJules -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (12/29/2004 4:46:51 PM)

Gloria,

I don't know what kind of jelly you are referring to, but all my dildos are silicone and I put them all in the dishwasher. (The manufacturers say it's okay.) The only bad thing is after the dark colored ones come out of the dishwasher, they have this white filmy stuff on it (I guess it's like those spots on glasses.) I might have to try out some jet dri.

sub4hire -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (12/29/2004 5:03:28 PM)

Well there you go then. Put them all in the dishwasher. I was thinking because of the texture of the dildo it may not make it through. I certainly would'nt want to be unsure then open up my dishwasher and find a big jelly or silicone mess to try to clean off.

MHOO314 -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (12/29/2004 6:43:25 PM)

ok NO jetdri, it lingers and well its worse, I reecently had a lis sis that I mentor, shes a female sub and was brutalized by a wannabe, she got UTI from dirty toys, and from anal to vag, ok theres a neat little product on the market called Mighty Tidy Toy cleaner, you can get it at any adult store, run the toys under hot water, spray this and then the ole dishwasher ( remember the CSI episode about swingers??) and Dial anitbacterial soap works on those pesky fingers--now given that, clymedia can also come from a silent lingering yeast infection--

proudsub -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (12/29/2004 8:02:09 PM)

After washing our toys with soap and water we use an alcohol swipe on them, the kind you can buy for cleaning eyeglasses.

Katriina73 -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (12/31/2004 7:39:50 AM)

Collared,

i had a similar experience about a year ago. i went to the doctor with what i thought was another UTI, and found out i had cervicitis. The doc told me the same thing about STDs but told me to wait until for test results before jumping to conclusions. Later my Husband came down with some irriation. We were both tested and found to be STD free but did realize it was from not being careful enough during anal sex. So it is possible to get PID from a non STD type bacteria. From some extra reading i did, it is also found to come from E.Coli, which is present in everone's colon. Now we are super careful and clean during any type of play. He rarely introduces anal sex, but when he does, he is careful that contaminated lube does not enter the vaginal area, and we keep our toys super clean with an adult toy cleaner. So, i understand totally how you feel, and it is a good reminder to all to remember good hygiene in the throws of passion!

ILovePain13 -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (4/22/2005 11:12:49 AM)

I've gotten infections from anal to vaginal. Also, though we all love doggy style, it makes anal bacteria slide down to the vagina easier. Careful play and good luck.

TheMistressMandy -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (4/22/2005 2:09:57 PM)

another way to clean your sex toys is to use a product called "SafeSuds" some of my local sex shops carry it and i keep a couple bottles of it in my play bags. my fiance used to work for these sex stores and swears by it. you just spray it on and let it soak in and then let it air dry. it also smells really nice, unlike most bleaches, etc. just another option in case you can't afford to buy silicone (which is clearly the best!) Is that a fact? I'm a doggy-style veteran, and I've never known or heard of a problem like this. Anal-to-vaginal, yes, but just doggy style? I'm a little skeptical.

I have never heard of that either. Are there any references of any kind for that?

MsMacComb -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (4/23/2005 1:50:24 AM)

My understanding is that in order to kill all germs with hot water it needs to be at/near boiling temperature. About 212F. Most or all dishwashers are not set to go near that high of a temp. Most are not much above 120 degrees.
Not meaning to argue or step on toes, just passing on info.

MHOO314 -> RE: Possible Ailment that's NOT an STD, but simply a fluke (4/23/2005 5:22:52 AM)

I agree with Mistress Mandy, I have used the same product She recommends and its marvelous, however, I also use condoms on all penetrable toys especially the "life like" ones that have a more porous construct to them-- those will keep germs better than rice holds gravy--but PID can also be caused from not enough air to the vaginal area, like constant wearing of silk panties and jeans-- or panties, panty hose and jeans or slacks----cotton crotch helps that and avoiding jean wearing like say in the evenings--abd stockings versus panythose---so its not always sex toys or sex-- sex does remind you its there though, clymidea is something that hangs around the clitorial area as well as the foreskin of the penis, ( especially if they are shakers not wipers)- and heat makes it active--again detailed cleanliness--very detailed--oral sex doesnt help at times either---

IIRC, it needs to be held at 170 for 10 minutes. Boiling is overkill. I get this from sterlizing bottles/jars for brewing/canning.

The reason you have jars at a hard boil in a water canner is because you need to get the internal temp to 140--- which is good enough to kill anything that can live in acid environs. You used a pressure canner which will get to 250 or more for low acid stuff to kill the other things, but the interior temp (the temp that does the killing) is much much lower.

I don't understand dishwashers---don't have one--- but unless they have a special resoviou, they are maxed at your water heater, with is OSHA reccommended at 140, max. So, no, it probably wouldn't kill enough. The 'sanitize' setting is probably a steam setting, which would get much much higher and would do it.

But, dropping them in a pot on the stove, brining to a boil and then turning off would keep them at 170 long enough. Do this after a good wash with soap and water, and it *should* be safe(r).

Not a dr... ;)

Recent studies have shown cut men are more likely to carry chlymidea than uncut.

I can find the study for you, if you'd like.
