Arpig -> Good shows (8/18/2006 11:59:12 PM)

Just saw Steve Earle live tonight at the Ottawa Folk Festival. Nice long set, just him alone on stage with his acoustic, pretty good show.
Anyway, it got me thinking and wondering...what good shows have you seen this summer?

jojoluvr -> RE: Good shows (8/19/2006 12:02:05 AM)

i haven't seen a live show this summer -- but i'm SO jealous!  i love steve earle.  rodney crowell's playing nearby next month -- hope to see him...i'll let you know how it goes [:)]

Due to the move, I only got to a Tom Petty concert this summer.  However, we're planning on getting to a Joe Ely concert next week and I did get to spend a whole weekend at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

very cool -- once upon a time i had a "charter membership" card from the rock and roll hall of fame -- of course, there were probably millions of those.  but i thought it was kinda nifty....so how was it?  i've never been....

Arpig -> RE: Good shows (8/19/2006 12:41:01 AM)

Tom Petty, I haven't seen him in forever. The only other concert I've seen this summer was The Be Good Tanyas at Bluesfest (yeah, I thought it was odd to have them at a Blues festival too). They were a little disappointing, but Steve was good

It has been a crazy summer so I haven't gotten out much. I did see Charlie Hayden in SF (jazz bassist), and just recently I saw Shawn Colvin with Bruce Cockburn.  Oh and I saw Strunz & Ferrah.

I'm jealous of LA seeing Tom Petty!

i am realy into the local music scene so i could go on and on about the good shows that i have seen.

a couple of notables, Automag, they just got a CD releaced nationwide and great sound (if you ask me) and The Fifth from Fayetteville (there are alot of local bands named the fifth) the former front man from Cold Sweat is singing

windchymes -> RE: Good shows (8/19/2006 7:07:08 AM)

I'm going to go tomorrow and see "Hairspray" at one of the casinos in Atlantic City.  I hear it's fabulous.

I love music more than just about anything else, so it confounds me that the last concert I saw was Eddie Money... and it was when he was "popular" lol.

LOL Level that's funny.  I saw him too.  Years ago. I saw his come-back tour, when he was debuting "Take Me Home Tonight" and it was a hot show because he was hungry.  After he was popular again, I saw him again and and he was so drunk he kept dropping the microphone & forgetting his own lyrics.

Anyway, seeing your name reminded me - and how could I have possibly forgotten (other than it technically was not summer), that I also recently saw David Gilmour.  Hot, hot show.

Metric at the Austin SXSW music festival was FANTABULOUS!

The last two shows I have been to were wonderful. I saw The Musical Box which is an old era Genesis tribute band. They actually recreate the concerts as they were performed right down to the exact instruments they used. They play only Peter Gabriel era Genesis, what the purists would refer to as the 'only real' Genesis. I saw them play the Selling England By The Pound tour and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.

The other show I saw was Laurie Anderson performing her The End Of The Moon tour. It was (is) about her experience as the first and last artist in residence at NASA. If you aren't familiar with Miss Anderson's work, she is worth a listen. A bit on the high-brow side, but she is quite interesting.

It was so good.  At the Mountain Winery in Saratoga.  Shawn was all accousitic, her voice sweet as ever.  Bruce was incredible.  I recommend his new CD.

Twas cool- here are a few pics, he had Stevie Nicks come out and do a few songs together as well.

The RNRHOF was absolutely amazing and totally worth the trip, if you do it right, it will take you at least 10 hours to go through the whole thing.  It expanded my understanding of the history and richness of RNR ten-fold.  And it made me really pissed that I was born so late again :)

Sigh...
Just our hillbilly neighbours soap operas. Irregularly aired specials.
