nefertari -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/20/2006 7:46:07 PM)

A lot of people seem to be way too interested in what is going on in another's bedroom, famous or not.  Some kind of sick fascination of sorts...or a way to make themselves feel better.

I cringe when I think what would come out if I were to become famous tomorrow.  We are all entitled to our privacy, but for some reason a lot of folks seem to think that does not apply to celebrities.

popeye1250 -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/20/2006 7:52:20 PM)

Now THAT would be funny!
Bush comming out as "gay".
Then the tables would be turned on those militant gays!
"Hey, let's talk about our GAY LEADER, President Bush!"
"Ahhh, I have an appointment to get my nails done, Bye!"

Estring -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/20/2006 7:55:15 PM)

Well, if Hillary wins (God forbid!), they will have someone to rally around.

popeye1250 -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/20/2006 7:58:29 PM)

Oh yeah, she went to *WELLESLEY*.
In Boston they call Wellesley "Lesbian Central."
REAL difficult getting a "date" with a "Wellesley Girl"!

Lotus, I think I'd rather put my head in a vice.

You say traitor to my sexuality, I say a trader of currency........I would be ok with that in acceptable sums.

I guess my  second sentence didn't catch on at all.  I mean , a celebretys  sexuality is kind about like knowing about  john doe's sexuality...people fuck, that ain't nothing too spectacular or out of the ordinary.  I would think more people would want to know what kind of shoes they wear.......

Ron

Shoes!!!  Now we're talking.  Though a guy having a fondness for fancy (men's) shoes could be a sign of homosexuality... are we onto something here?

Estring and Popeye...  I think Hilary gets a lesbian label put on her because she is a strong woman.  It never occurred to me on my own that she could be a lesbian (I bet she's not), but her sexual preference isn't connected to her political policy.  Though the Republican party made sexuality part of  Bill Clinton's policy *before* he was ever accused of lying about it.

Sexuality really shouldn't be of anyone's concern... even if he is the President.  Perhaps Hilary is a lesbian, and Bill had her stamp of approval to play with other women in his office.  So what.   I agree, the lie wasn't exactly kosher, but before the lie... why all the prying and talk of immorality in the White House.

Sex gets you impeached.... but obviously lying is okay or Mr. Bush wouldn't be sitting in the White House now.

SirKenin -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/20/2006 8:51:44 PM)

I can not for the life of Me understand what people's fascination is with celebrities.  I mean, who cares?  My wife is totally into celebrity gossip and everything else.  She can tell you anything about any celebrity, any song and any band... not to mention everything that is on TV and what just about every movie there is is about.  It is kind of creepy.

The less I know about a celebrity, the more inclined I am to want to watch them on the big screen.  I have crossed some former favorites off my watch list cause I wouldn't be able to watch them any longer having heard some of the things they stand for (Tom Cruise, Tom Selleck, and  Mel Gibson for example)

popeye1250 -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/21/2006 2:31:16 AM)

Kenin, I agree!
It's not like I know those people or anything, what the hell do I care what they had for breakfast? Sheesh!
And then they come out for all these "causes."
"Hey Pal, just ACT and keep your mouth shut!"

Pimpernell -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/21/2006 3:06:47 AM)

Well, I'm sure a lot of the "outed" celebrities are nothing more than wishful thinking.

I always find it funny how with a little bit of research every historical figure turns out to be gay.  Someone finds a letter they wrote to a close friend of the same sex, and suddenly that's proof they are gay.

While studying for a music essay I found out that Sappho was not gay.  The reason she wrote poems about her female friends was because the culture she grew up in was heavily sex segregated, men socialised with men, women with women but they still married and procreated.  People later came along took the poetry out of context.  Just like Shakespeare's supposed pedophile sonnet.

Actually, knowing how to spell sonnet is probably proof I'm gay too.

meatcleaver -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/21/2006 4:00:33 AM)

I have to agree with what Pimpernell implies. The society and individuals that intepret and misintepret scanty evidence about people are revealed more than the people they are trying to reveal.

People who indulge in this type of activity I find rather sad and somewhat distasteful.

philosophy -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/21/2006 4:47:56 AM)

i can think of but one exception to the idea that outing against ones will is wrong....if a politician makes public pronouncements about sexuality or fidelity and it turns out they're being hypocritical, then this has legitimnate news value.

Yeah, I will never look at Tom Cruise in the same light again.  Man did he ever blow it.  What on earth was he thinking?

LaTigresse -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/21/2006 7:53:07 AM)

I don't care who is what, don't need to know. Not fond of any extreme militant anything. Shit, can't we all just get along?

BTW, I am organizing a march for this next Saturday. It is in support of dancing banana's and peeing pups. Bring yellow rain gear, boots and waders recommended.

Dauric -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/21/2006 8:02:37 AM)

Y'know, the only thing I care about in an actor is can they act. A musician should be able to play an instrument and/or sing. Politicians should be able to think clearly and with regard for the welfare of the country (okay, wishful thinking...)

It doesn't happen often, but occasionally I'm listening to Bohemian Rhapsody, or Princes of the Universe and someone will say "You know that guy was gay right?" to which I respond "Yeah, So?" the conversation usually ends there. The band was called "Queen" and believe it or not they started out as a christian rock band. Neither factor stopped them from making good music (if you happen to like Queen).

---
On the TMI scale, yeah I don't care for Gibson or Cruise any more either. Can't watch their movies without thinking they're nutcases.

---
If a celebrity wants to be a leader for some cause, any cause, that's fine. In our media driven society sometimes that's the only way that things get done. Forcing them in to the limelight only makes the cause look desprate.

---
And for future reference it should be spelled "Hollyweird."

$0.02,

Dauric.

Pimpernell -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/22/2006 9:23:35 AM)

The dumbest put down I ever heard was "You know the lead singer of the band on your t-shirt is gay, don't you?".

The funniest part, the person checked up on it, and it turns out the "insulter" got his bands mixed up.

popeye1250 -> RE: WHY do we need to know??? (8/22/2006 11:33:27 AM)

Yeah, and what about that Dope Richard Gere?
Tibet?  "Richard, no-one gives a _uck about TIBET!"
What does he think, we're going to send Troops over to "free Tibet???"  lol
