Status: offline 		They can just close the Sunday school now. It is obviously filthy from 54 years of sin. In fact since they allowed this practice they should burn the whole place down and make damn sure the contractor who builds the new one has no Women in his employ. We must keep pure.

They should still burn it down. No child should be subjected to religion. It should be illegal to teach religion to anyone under the age of 15 or so. That's called indoctrination.

I guess 'honour thy Mother and thy Father" is meant in the sense where the word honour means to pay. Boys certainly shouldn't obey their Mothers now right ? Mothers shouldn't teach them to read, make them do homework or chores right ? Do people think about this shit ? You can find passages in that infernal bible that tell you to kill your neighbor and all kinds of shit, and that's exactly what it is SHIT.

The first thing they forget is that since "the Christ" the entire old testament is null and void, it only applies to Jews. Period. Being a true Christian is something quite different than these (_|_)holes would have you think. Walk out of that church and engage in all the dishonesty and skullduggery you want, because you are saved. These people should be tortured to death for causing about 60% of the world's problems. Let me do it, then I'll just accept Christianity on my deathbed and all will be fine. I'll be "up" there in heaven with all the heroes of modern times, Bush who kills many in the name of god, Jesus of course, rapists, other murderers, thieves, adulterers, all forgiven. Why not me.

So I will withold my capitulation until all the dirty work is done. Got a list for me ?

Status: offline 		I'm pagan so no, but if I was a christian No way. I think this is horrible after she spent nearly her whole life working there and I'm all for equality between the sexes.

Status: offline 		The other bible thread we have going here had a statement of how people don't "Really" follow the bible word by word, they just use it is a guide.... yet often, people do follow it to the tee.... which, to me, is just plain ridiculous.

That church apparently doesn't know what they follow....  the scripture it adheres to apparently changes every 54 years or so.  The poor woman serves the lord for 54 years and is dropped like a hot, female potato.... I would think a good god would step in and straighten out the guy who fired her.

No, but they do if the person is incompetent.  And it was clearly shown that all women are incompetent at teaching.

I lived next door to a female baptist preacher that the local church had fired.
She'd be preaching in the neighborhood, scaring the kids, telling people they were going to hell while giving them the heil hitler salute, calling the cops constantly because of loud music or because people were having fun.
And some jerkoff read something in a book and decided to fire this woman after 54 years?
"HE" interpreted it that way?
I hope she sues the living shit out of him!

Status: offline 		Tell ya what, she probably does have a suit against them, especially after 54 years. I really wouldn't mind seeing her get a chunk of change out of this. It'll never happen though, she won't sue and if she did they might be uncollectable.

In effect, these people are saying "we made a mistake" for 54 years. Even if that is true, is this the proper course of action ? "We have a new Sunday school teacher, Fred". Nice job teaching the kids, continuity and all that. You taught them that there is no continuity. Thank you very much.

Stay away from those people, really.

for any reason at any time. After 54 years it is a bit lame to use Paul's admonition to Timothy as a one
of those reasons.

Why didn't Paul allow women to teach men? Because it would be difficult for the men to accept in first century AD
and we have to remember early Christians came from Judaism where only men were allowed to stand in Synagogue.
One can't change social structure overnight.

This verse has nothing to do with parenting. Even Jewish mothers were responsible for religious instruction of the children.

Some churches apply this "restriction" to the ministry which, to me, is a more appropriate application. BUT we are a thousands years down the road and I think the admonition is no longer applicable. Women are quite capable to instruct and to preach.

Much of Paul's instructions must be taken in historical context in order to understand what he meant. Actually historical context is a major key in understanding scripture. Period.
