Level,

Well, maybe there is a tendency to get carried away at times when trying to point out the short-comings of some so-called Christians - quite possibly a result of frustration, disbelief and knowing that logical, reasoned argument doesn't work with some.

For me the key issue is this  - if a person, any person, supports bombing campaigns, discrimination and can't show charity to others whether it be on grounds of wealth, need, sexual persuasion, gender, race, religion they they are just wasting theirs and everyone elses time by trying to gain some kudos by calling themselves Christians.

However, I'm all for the Christians who actually practice what they preach and are fair-minded, charitable and humanitarian - in fact, I would actively encourage more of these Chrisitians in the world because ultimately what matters is your own personal values rather than the religion or political ideology you identify yourself with. If we had more people with these values around the world would be a much more stable place.

Regards

Agreed again, BA. I'm afraid I'm letting myself get snarky here, there's good and bad everywhere.

Honestly, I haven't seen any Christian-bashing.

I am not attempting to dilute your other points, but wanted to point out some recent statements made in the last couple of days.
Change the word “Christian” to “Jew”  and you’d be joining Mel Gibson’s dilemma.

The first one was my quote, and I wasn't calling Christians assholes.  I was calling candidates for public office who want to create a Christian theocracy in America assholes.  If a Jewish politician ran on a comparable platform, I'd call him an asshole, too.

I found this amusing excerpt from a Jim-Goad essay, that (facetiously) demonstrated the differences between  machismo-driven Muslim prophets, and Christ.  Jim Goad is ALWAYS an incendiary writer, so I'd like to remind any of my gay brothers that this is NOT to be taken seriously.

"Unlike the vaguely faggy virgin Jesus, the Prophet Muhammad was a stud-muffin. Hung like Allah, too, I'll bet. Here was a religious leader with a robust enjoyment of carnal delights. He liked 'em young and tight. He liked 'em old and loose. He liked 'em, period. But he didn't like 'em if they had their period, 'coz that's disgusting. While the homo Christ chose to laze around with twelve other males, Muhammad plowed through at least a dozen wives, plus scads of hot, horny slave chicks. He married a six-year-old girl when he was 51. He died at 62 on the lap of a 17-year-old bride. A true pimp daddy, Muhammad was. The Original Gangsta.
And his followers were nearly as burly as the Prophet himself. His cousin Ali wisely stated that "The entire woman is evil....Men, never ever obey your women....They complain of being oppressed when in fact it is they who oppress." Omar, Islam's second caliph, counseled Muslim guys to "Adopt positions opposite those of women. There is great merit in such opposition." Indeed, these were men of great wisdom and holiness. Righteous bro's. Ain't no fun if the homies can't have none!
And I want some. I want some sultry Saudi sirens. Some cock-hungry Kuwaiti cuties. A classy Pakistani lassie with a sassy chassis."

Thanks for clearing that up, LAM.  And I agree, there are assholes in every genre.  There just seemed to be such a tilt lately, maybe it was my mood but it was getting to me.  I apparently misunderstood your comment.

If you read the news article that I had linked, the heading reads " Christian zealots destroy ancient Arctic petroglyphs ", so now it is wrong to call a spade a spade?  Should it have read " Concerned Moralists Eradicate Vile Satanic Graffitti, bringing Peace and Love to Arctic Natives " ?

What would have balanced things out is if you had selected an article from the plethora of information available which demonstrates all the charity the Christian church does in this country and others.  If one read all that is spoken here, one might think that not one Christian person did one good deed on this earth.  What we are seeing here is hardly a full picture.

Strolling thru the posts on "Casual Banter" I came across this one and would like to add my two cents. I'm Wicca, I do not bash other Faith's, I believe we are ALL equal, we just believe differently. I was born and raised Catholic, my step-Father although was Buddhist
(how’s that for a mixture) but was lucky enough to have parents that urged me to search for my own Faith, and trust me; I tried a few, to include Muslim, Judaism, Buddhist and was Catholic for a very long time. I happened onto Wicca and found it “fit” me, I’m eclectic in the sense of what I practice, but I don’t believe in all the so called hype about it. Why do we have to make known what we believe, isn’t it good enough that we ourselves know what we think and feel about Faith. I do not belong to a Coven, but I have many many friends who believe as I do, we just do not flaunt it. I don’t go about telling other who “enlightened” I am, or the differences between white and black magick, I just practice what I feel is right for me, and don’t really care what others think of me.
The reason for this post is to, as I said, add my two cents, and to just say, what ever you believe, what ever you think, what ever Deity you feel is right, don’t judge others just because they don’t think along the same lines as you

A personal note to TreSwank, if the Wicca’s tick you off so much, and you don’t believe as they do, just ignore them. Besides, if they really are Wicca, they will understand you don’t wanna hear it and leave you alone
