www.castlerealm.com is a good place to start.

Welcome to the forums, kathleen marie.

For books, a good general resource I'd recommend is Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns.  It is designed well for newcomers and does a good job of covering the basics.  The Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage by Midori and Craig Morey is a great introductory  book on Shibari.  The New Bottoming Book by Janet W. Hardy and Dossie Easton is specifically geared towards the submissive and bottoming side of things.

Websites abound, the trouble is finding the good ones.   Not a lot of people are updating their sites anymore, most of the good stuff is on email lists and forum sites where a large user base is providing most of the actual content.  A willingness to host diverging viewpoints or a quality exploration of a single topic are good signs. Based on the interests in your profile, I'd recommend some of the older static websites such as http://www.castlerealm.com, http://www.steel-door.com/Chamber.html, http://www.goreanwhispers.com and one of the few that I've seen regularly updated, http://www.takeninhand.com/.  With websites, the most important thing is to expose yourself to a variety of viewpoints to get a better perspective on the information and personal opinions.

The best recommendation I can give you is to join the Boston TNG, it is a great resource that is right in your neighborhood.  http://www.boston-tng.org/  The Boston TNG is a social bunch of kinksters in your age bracket (18-35) that you'd probably have a lot in common with and are very welcoming of newcomers.  It isn't just about kink, they go out to clubs, movies and other fun and social things as well as BDSM educational stuff.

In a little bit,  LuckyAlbatross  will probably be posting links to 14 dozen previous topics, she's pretty good about that and they'll likely have more quality sites listed than I can think of at the moment.  I haven't been in New England for about 4 years now but the Boston TNG was the gem in your area and I'm sure it still is.  They have an email list that you can post an introduction to and you can get to know people through it before you meet them if you are feeling shy.

Good luck and enjoy,

Joe

Marie,

Welcome to the boards.  It's a great first step.  You've gotten, I believe, the comprehensive list of all of the sites I can think of.  I just have one word of caution however and it has to do with "subby fever".  Everything is going to look so good, so hot, so wonderful.  And it is.  Just take it slow.  Don't make any dramatic moves, like getting collared by someone you've never met or meeting with someone in a non-public place until you trust them.  Caution and safety, first, last and always.

Sunshine
