Mount Desert Island on the east coast of Maine is the home of some utterly wonderful restaurants, including Poor Boy's Gourmet (Bar Harbor, try their Lobster Feast), Demuro's Top of the Hill Restaurant (Southwest Harbor, don't miss the cioppino!), and the West Street Cafe (Bar Harbor, best New England Clam Chowder we found on the whole trip!). Also, don't miss Ben & Bill's Chocolate Emporium in Bar Harbor - their ice cream flavors included Kahlua, Bailey's Irish Cream, and (wait for it) lobster! For places to stay, don't pass up the Kingsleigh Inn in Southwest Harbor - they've changed hosts since we were there, but assuming the new ones are just as good, their Turret Suite is just awesome, especially at the off-season price! All that said, my favorite restaurant ever is right in the middle of this New England wonderland. It's called Jordan Pond House. The home was built on Jordon Pond in 1847, and is now located inside Acadia National Park. At the far end of the lake you can see the Bubbles, a pair of low, glacially carved mountains. Their prices are a little on the touristy side, but their popovers are not to be missed and can be had with afternoon tea to make it a cheap outing! :-) pup75
