I think that it's similar to the Doestoevsky incident at Sememovsky square. When young Fyodor was about to be executed for his relatively harmless anti-tsarist activities, the last minute reprieve, with the tsar had planned on giving all along, seemed like a spiritual revelation, granted by God himself to the man who would be history's greatest writer.

Yeah.........it's arbitrary "Higher Power" propaganda, but I guess it works for folks who have lost every other hope.

Hmm. Comedy has a long history of dipping its toe into some very horrid and painful waters; Richard Pryor springs to mind. But I see what Gauge means, as well. All I can say is do what you're going to do, Tre, but know that some will see it as hurtful.

As usual I can see all sides of this....no I have never had a drinking problem. But certain things I can and do laugh about my own problems may hit me wrong and make me want to go postal.

Everyone that reads swanks post knows he does these intentionally just to get reactions but I have seen he will also with intelligence back down when called to the mat. He does manage to get lively dicussions going which shows different sides of everyone.

I tired like hell not to like lil swankipoo...but dammit I just cant help but like him

I know this is a rather twisted view of things but...well thats just me

sorry tre hun but i don't see how it would be funny. i'm not a recovering anything, and i have heard of alcholics anonomous, but none of those others that have been mentioned.

perhaps it's me just being dumb, but i think there's enuff knobs and plonkers on here, without people pretending. i think trying to make up a profile to see if anybody responds, and then taking the mickey out of them if they do is just nasty. sorry.

The funniest profiles I’ve seen are the ones where the person takes a picture of themselves by pointing a camera at a mirror. I am not sure if this is meant to be intentionally funny or the person doesn’t know how to use the self timer function.

It’s hard to tell where the line is to be drawn sometimes but without the art of parody you are left with mime and everyone hates mime. I do anyway, with their silly stripy black and white vests and berets. Every time I see someone doing mime I feel like putting them in a real glass box in the middle of the desert.

I'm also in AA recovery. I just don't get the humor of it.
Is it supposed to be something like that "Bum Fighting" stuff?

Maybe it is because alcohol was never the worst of my demons. Maybe it is because I never really fit into the AA model of what recovery is. Maybe it is just a hard-wired tendency to irreverence. I do see humor in that minority of people Tre was talking about in the OP. I see humor in the fact that after 9 years of being straight, I can't scrape a sticker off a piece of glass with a razor blade without my nose starting to run.

Based on what I've seen here though, I'm withdrawing my support for the OP.

Tre, i know i shouldn't be surprised by Your bizarre attempts to find humor in Your life and at the lives of others.....But, come on.... How can one find humor in something that destroys the lives, well-being, sanity, reputation, and self esteem of so many... Obviously, You've not stuck around any meetings long enough to get to know someone (i mean REALLY get to know them) only to get a call later, that they are dead!!! And obviously, You've never sat alone in Your apartment with a drink wondering which would win out on this night...the desire to drink....or the desire to die!! Not, being sure which is the lesser of two evils....
Am i offended? No, Tre, i'm way beyond Your ability to offend me by Your pointed, twisted, opinionated, and entirely self centered views!
Flame on!! Do what ever allows You to sleep at night..
