I would gather it is a matter of personal choice and security. Especially for those that reside in a small town, are active in their leather community, or prefer not to practice their lifestyle openly.

True enough I guess.

Look at my profile..you can't even see my country [8D]

I live in a small town, and value my privacy.

zumala -> RE: where are you ? (9/5/2006 6:35:42 AM)

It's a safety measure.  Strangers don't need to have too much of my personal information.

In my case, I wanted responses from many people all over California, and I did not want people to know the exact city I am from. I have a Dom now anyways.

With stalking becoming more and more prevalent.. why give someone that kind of ammunition? But then again.. I put my city down LOL  (I get off on danger but thats ok.. my Sir is pretty dangerous Himself and anyone causing problems with our home may find more than they bargained for)

Living in a very small community ourselves, we find it to be a great help to be able to share exactly where we are.  We can, though, completely understand the privacy and safety issues involved with giving a more exact location.  To each their own.

As always, YMMV...

Q: For people who value their privacy, why the pictures of yourself as avatars?

angielouwhos -> RE: where are you ? (9/5/2006 2:15:53 PM)

For me the only privacy factor is a safety one. Its not like I am going to be outed and lose my Mrs America title or there is a position I am trying to maintain within a carreer or community. The picture itself in the avatar does not really present a big security risk. The state by itself does not either.

gentlethistle -> RE: where are you ? (9/5/2006 3:03:51 PM)

I included my city because I don't have a photo in my profile.  Frankly, if I had included a photo then I don't think I would have even included my county in my profile and would probably have just settled for 'UK' or 'the South West'.

i live in a small town and would rather protect my privacy but i get WAY too many people from the other side of the state who, when learning where i live, say i am too far away so i just wanted to narrow it down a bit without posting the exact location.
