arissa -> Sept 11th... this is the best one ever (9/13/2006 11:06:39 PM)

This was sent to me and unfortunately I just received it this evening. I wish the author was known, he or she wrote something very beautiful, but perhaps they remained anonymous for a reason.
Perhaps the reason was each person who reads it can feel like they are a part of the creation of these beautiful words

A little late but the poem is wonderful....................

WHOEVER WROTE THIS SHOULD STEP FORWARD AND CLAIM IT!
THE WORDS ARE POWERFUL:

TWO THOUSAND ONE, NINE ELEVEN (2001-911)

Two thousand one, nine eleven
Three thousand plus arrive in heaven
As they pass through the gate,
Thousands more appear in wait
A bearded man with stovepipe hat
Steps forward saying, "Lets sit, lets chat"

They settle down in seats of clouds
A man named Martin shouts out proud
"I have a dream!" and once he did
The Newcomer said, "Your dream still lives."

Groups of soldiers in blue and gray
Others in khaki, and green then say
"We're from Bull Run, Yorktown, the Maine"
The Newcomer said, "You died not in vain."

From a man on sticks one could hear
"The only thing we have to fear.
The Newcomer said, "We know the rest,
Trust us sir, we've passed that test."

"Courage doesn't hide in caves
You can't bury freedom, in a grave,"
The Newcomers had heard this voice before
A distinct Yankees twang from Hyannis port shores

A silence fell within the mist
Somehow the Newcomer knew that this
Meant time had come for her to say
What was in the hearts of the five thousand plus that day

"Back on Earth, we wrote reports,
Watched our children play in sports
Worked our gardens, sang our songs
Went to church and clipped coupons
We smiled, we laughed, we cried, we fought
Unlike you, great we're not"

The tall man in the stovepipe hat
Stood and said, "Don't talk like that!
Look at your country, look and see
You died for freedom, just like me"

Then,
before them all appeared a scene
Of rubbled streets and twisted beams
Death, destruction, smoke and dust
And people working just 'cause they must

Hauling ash, lifting stones,
Knee deep in hell, but not alone
"Look! Blackman, Whiteman, Brownman, Yellowman
Side by side helping their fellow man!"

So said Martin, as he watched the scene
"Even from nightmares, can be born a dream."

Down below three firemen raised
The colors high into ashen haze
The soldiers above had seen it before
On Iwo Jima back in '45

The man on sticks studied everything closely
Then shared his perceptions on what he saw mostly
"I see pain, I see tears,
I see sorrow -- but I don't see fear."

"You left behind husbands and wives
Daughters and sons and so many lives
Are suffering now because of this wrong
But look very closely. You're not
really gone.

All of those people, even those who've never met you
All of their lives, they'll never forget you
Don't you see what has happened?
Don't you see what you've done?
You've brought them together, together as one.

With that the man in the stovepipe hat said
"Take my hand," and from there he led
Three thousand plus heroes, Newcomers to heaven
On this day, two thousand one, nine eleven

Thanks for sharing that, arissa. It's lovely.

Thanks arissa, quite a thought provoking poem in which many may find much comfort.

9-11 is forever seared in my soul.  i live in the fields of Pennsylvania.  there are 11 nuclear plants here and urban sprawal. astounding that no one on the ground was killed per flight 93.

i might add- that i rewrote-revised-updated the official disaster plan for my county back in 1998. so i have some knowledge of the process.

as the charred bodies were burning airline corps were on the phones trying to escape liability....

the attack was an attack on western way of life.

now as to what we dont with this- our misguided leader- has turned the us into a tradgedy.

i dont beleive clinton dropped the ball.

since bush has been in office, my house did not burn down, i wasnt raped or car jacked.  *bows to kiss his feet* oh the messiah is here-  *SIC!*

philosophy -> RE: Sept 11th... this is the best one ever (9/14/2006 9:56:44 AM)

.......it is a lovely poem....but very america-centric........how many nationalities were murdered that day? 9/11 may have happened in America, but it didn't happen just to Americans. Many other countries and other cultures have a stake in this too........For instance the line about Iwo Jima may not have communicated that well to any Japanese readers........

NastyDaddy -> RE: Sept 11th... this is the best one ever (9/14/2006 11:15:20 AM)

I'd suggest that Japanese Americans who perished in America on 911 had long since overcome the military significance of warfare against totalitarianism, a mistake which ultimately forced the Japanese Emperor to surrender for the first time in history.

If anything I'd suggest they may have held issues in their hearts over the thousands of non-combatants who perished in Nagasaki and Hiroshima as their Emperor's totalitarian stance was forced to end.

arissa -> RE: Sept 11th... this is the best one ever (9/19/2006 5:54:58 PM)

You are all correct, but what ever nationality the person who lost thier live was, they were American. I do believe that was what the writer was trying to express, a United America. Wouldnt that be nice

"You are all correct, but what ever nationality the person who lost thier live was, they were American."

....no they weren't all American....in any sense of the word. To insist that they are, is to disrespect those who were Japanese, British, French, German, etc....... i'm sorry to labour this point, but it is important to understand that it wasn't just an attack on America, it was an attack on all of us. Personally i would find it an insult if i'd lost a friend or a relative there and then someone comes along and tells me they were all Americans.

While you hypothetically criticize, you also readily admit you lost no loved ones, relatives or friends in the 9/11 attacks.  Im my book your repeated posted insensitivity to other's losses is an insult to anyone who feels pain or grief regarding the horrific loss of innocent lives on 9/11.

Your hypothetical "if's" are nothing more than feeble attempts to insert your own opinion and apparent belief of cause.  Who the hell made you any kind of authority on who lost what and when... all from the comfort of your computer keyboard one handed perspective.  You give malesubs a worse name than many have already contributed to the sterotype of wankers seeking attention... any attention at all to facilitate their wanker cause.

If you have difficulties with the author:  Paul Spreadbury  (http://www.iwvpa.net/trib_911_a/spreadburyp.htm), then by all means take your "issues" up with Mr Spreadbury himself and see how he relates to your one handed hypotheticals.

I've seen your posts "demanding" proof and references from others, accusing them of attempting to dilute or create fact by stating their opinion more than once.  I say now this makes you the very hypocrite you often accuse others of being. Let's see your proof and sources or shall we all conclude you are indeed the wanker hypocrite you paint yourself out to be.  Put some substance in your words as you demand of others in your attention slut recreational hypocrisy.

If you feel the people who died in the London subway bombings were Brits (even the muslim students who died in Britain), then that is your cup of tea, and if you don't and you feel your country is appropriate for religious zealots and other idiots to sway by their sword... have at it and endure the wrath of your fellow country men and women. Go shit in your own backyard and leave others to their own feelings, whether it be grief or patriotism which you don't seem to particularly like very much.

Get real fucker... it doesn't take a genius to figure out that at least 19 lives lost on 9/11 were indeed NOT Americans, they were the religious zealot foreigners chasing their 40 virgins, which another foreigner (who can't even live in his own homeland) promised them they would "surely get". But here cometh you... the philosopher, the intelligent dumb-assed man demanding perfection in other's common grief.

Yeah, dude (or dud?)... you definitely have "laboured" your point with NastyDaddy, and I'm sure many others as well.

I'm very confident my "laboured" opinion won't be the last you will be hearing since you "insisted" to push your own philosophical agenda atop the grief and loss of others in order to attempt to split the hair that obviously bugs you so damn much.

Sorry, but I pity you dud... there is nothing to admire in, or about your philosophical hypothetical whining.

Chaingang -> RE: Sept 11th... this is the best one ever (9/20/2006 1:02:32 PM)

NastyDaddy:

The grief and pity card has already been played and squandered on Iraq. You have had more than 1,825 days to stop crying in your own urine. I will now play you the smallest violin in the world.

[N.B. This violin playing looks a lot like me rubbing together two fingers in preparation of flicking a booger - oh wait, it is a booger!]

NastyDaddy -> RE: Sept 11th... this is the best one ever (9/20/2006 1:30:16 PM)

It's just your tiny cock, not a booger or violin at all... but play away!

....perhaps you, in your zeal to try and make me feel ashamed will have the honesty to feel a small piece of shame yourself as you realise you are wrong. 45 people died at 9/11 who didn't live in America. 205 people didn't hold american citizenship. When you or anyone else calls them 'american' you disrespect their nationality.

As for your personal atack on me.......well, i wish you the joy of it........but i will insist on people backing their assertions up with facts as i have done in the past. You asked me for my facts..... i have provided them without hesitation.

spankmepink11 -> RE: Sept 11th... this is the best one ever (9/21/2006 6:15:23 AM)

No offense philosophy, but are you  really going to split hairs and imply disrespect simply because a  percentage of the victims of 9/11 were not american citizens?  I'm 100% sure that the person who wrote those words had absolutely  no disrespect or disregard for the other nationalities involved.

Chaingang -> RE: Sept 11th... this is the best one ever (9/21/2006 10:01:30 AM)

I love all of this chest-beating and flag-waving astride 3000 graves. So now we are going to tear and pull for our individual piece of grief? This is what the dearly departed would have wanted?

I think not.

My attack was in fact towards your callous insistence to judge anothers grief on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and attempt to correct their feelings. You didn't post your all important native citizenship source without hesitation, you poked a finger in the eye and sat back awaiting your apparent joy that you might be able to entertain yourself.  I have no shame wahatsoever for putting you in the corner in which you belonged for belittling the sorrow of others. It was not I who stated all were Americans, so don't sling your split-hair mud at me.

Your judgemental attitude directed towards others was not appropriate for the occaision, and yes quite foolish and immature for one who I had tended to think was an intelligent person before your jealous or insecure need to split a hair. In my book if you died at the hands of terrortists on Chinese soil, that would entitle you to be regarded as an honorary Chinese citizen in the eyes of any or all Chinese citizens who mourned terrorist victims who died on their soil.

That would not make you any less of a victim in my eyes, and I would not make a big deal out of your non Chinese status during any observances of your death, but I suppose I'm not the fine example of gentleman which you perceive yourself to be inside your head. Your actions and showboating painted you out to be the little boy, not by any stretch the man.

NastyDaddy -> RE: Sept 11th... this is the best one ever (9/21/2006 1:28:13 PM)

Thank you for your judgments, roll them between your fingers and enjoy the flavor of your booger.  Stand prominent with your boogers and flick them over the graves of terrorist victims... it is your true calling and you fit the role very well. Everyone knows the need for a judge such as yourself regarding other's expressions of grief and mourning.  You didn't disappoint, your judging other's needs to mourn or grieve was a stellar reflection on your true character.  I salute you... pffffftttt~!

poetry, a way of using the spoken word to weave a song, to paint a dance, to swaddle a tear or a laugh.

Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash.

..i'm sure the author meant no disrespect whatsoever......however, nationality is a deeply personal thing.........my post came about because i fundamentally do not agree with ND when he says this.....
"In my book if you died at the hands of terrortists on Chinese soil, that would entitle you to be regarded as an honorary Chinese citizen in the eyes of any or all Chinese citizens who mourned terrorist victims who died on their soil."
.....i think to co-opt a victims national identity to express ones own grief is to disrespect the victim.
While i think ND's personal attacks on me were unwarranted i can at least respect his right to feel as he does about victims nationalities. We simply differ........for this, i see no reason to question ND's manliness........
