michaelGA2 -> "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 12:09:27 PM)

in order to prevent hijacking another forum, i felt it would be better to start one here, since this is an issue for some (me at the top of the list)

MasterFireMaam -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 12:11:26 PM)

Ummmm...for those of us not up with wherever this topic came from, can you give a little detail and perhaps ask a question?

Master Fire

michaelGA2 -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 12:17:36 PM)

it seems that a rash of unpeeled potatoes are being served in restaurants these days...i, for one, have gotten to the point of not ordering any potato products (such as fries or mashed potatoes) when i co out to eat. i would rather buy potatoes from the store and peel them myself (yes, even the ones i bake and i peel them 'before' i cook them)

it's getting to where it's not good to go out an eat these days due to this growing laziness in the food industry.

MasterRenegade77 -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 12:38:49 PM)

They may be lazy mans potatoes but the fact is that unpeeled potatoes are better nutitionally for you than peeled ones...
I rarely eat out as I really don't trust the sanitary conditions or restaurant workers, so I buy potatoes & eye them check & cut out the bad spots cut them up & boil them, I also think they taste better with the skins on...
My question is why you're not specific when you order, people can't serve you well if you don't say something???

Rumtiger -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 12:42:06 PM)

I aint got no problem with em unpeeled or peeled, I dont really care.

michaelGA2 -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 12:42:33 PM)

i would rather have good tasting potatoes then healthy ones...not like we all will live forever

Rumtiger -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 12:44:45 PM)

your talking about fast food french fries....they all pretty much taste the same you know?

Well except for In-n-out's fries...you guys nowhere near the pacific dont know what your missing.

MsKatHouston -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 12:45:32 PM)

I like both.  I think skin on potatoes are very tasty and as someone who cooks A LOT, I do it both ways.  Considering the amount of time I would spend on either, I would hardly call it lazy.  It's a simple personal preference.

LaTigresse -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 12:56:19 PM)

I prefer the skins on myself.

KatyLied -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 1:14:42 PM)

I prefer the skins on myself.  :Loaded with butter.  And garlic.  And pepper.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!

marieToo -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 1:30:24 PM)

I can't even remember the last time I had a potato...but now I want one.  Oh and I love love love the skin.  It's the best part, especially if they're baked.  Scoop the white fluffy guts out and give me just the skins....oh god...yes....with butter....

Wasn't planning on cooking potatoes tonight but now I think I'm going to...that made me hungry

windchymes -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 1:47:26 PM)

Skins on for me, too.  In fact, I'll eat the outside of a baked potato and leave the insides!

NastyDaddy -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 1:48:19 PM)

michael, there's a new trend I'm starting myself... to hell with the potatos, to hell with the potato eyes, to hell with the potato skins....

Just french fry the plastic bag they came in... making sure it's fried in heavy transfatty acids, add lots of artificial salt, lots of artificial pepper, and under no circumstances forget to add the artifiicial garlic salt... douse heavily with a layer of artificial butter followed with a generous lathering of artificial sour cream... top it all off with some kind of fresh green minced plastic for a garnish... melts in your mouth, yum-yum!

It's a great way to get rid of the artificial christams tree... branch by tastey branch.

michaelGA2 -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 1:50:33 PM)

i don't do artificial anything...i prefer the real thing

Edited to add:

no good cook ever uses articifial seasonings or anything else fake...

MsKatHouston -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 1:52:00 PM)

Me too...my only potato issue is those horrid boxed mashed potatoes.  Ew.

If you're ever in the area I'll make you some gooood taters and I'll even peel em for you ;)

(edited because there's a big difference between mased potatoes and mashed)

I agree Boxed potatoes suck

ShiftedJewel -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 2:45:18 PM)

(fast reply)

First... if I'm eating french fries there's a good chance that at that moment I'm not going for the "healthy" part of eating.  And Rumtiger... most fast food places still peel the fries (I think they do....don't they? I don't know, I haven't been to one in years), it's the "nicer" places that don't. And yes, no one can top In and Out for fries or burgers... hell, even shakes!!

And I hate skins on my potatoes, nutritional or not... yuck.

Jewel

ScooterTrash -> RE: "Lazy Man's Potatoes" revisited (9/22/2006 2:57:03 PM)

  If they are baked....sure, peel on is fine. If they are cooked any other way, nope, save the skins for the restaurants that think potato skins are some sort of hors'deovers.
  It's like that time we were at a restaurant and the menu said homestyle mashed potatoes and when they came, they had the peels in them. We asked the waiter if he peeled his potatoes for mashed potatoes at home, he said yes. We noted that we did too...so WHY did they call them homestyle if nobody is that lazy at home? All he could do was agree with us that they weren't homestyle in anyone's home he knew of.

edited cause I typoed potatoe or, uh potato..damned, which is it?...lol
