Hi pahunk - hear you loud and clear; same problem we have here and now. I could really do with moving house, but there are too many people for the number of houses available, and prices have risen and continue to rise. As for social housing, forget it - you might just have a chance if you registered now as a one legged lesbian Muslim who's pregnant, to get something next century or so. (not a dig BTW, but an illustration of what scores points to get you to the top of the list). We're constantly told in the UK, we need more people to work here to provide taxes to provide for our growing elderly population. This is bizarre - we have at least one million people registered in the UK for work who are out of work - but they wont do the jobs which are available because they feel the jobs beneath them, and so immigrants come and do them. Any tax benefit from the immigrants doing these jobs is negated by the million odd people unemployed and claiming benefits, surely? With nothing much left for pensions from that tax revenue. And then, as for pensions from the state, they are ridiculously low anyway and not viable as a means of living at all, and many pensioners are being forced to sell or lease back their houses just to live. So it makes no sense whatsoever. But still, these illegals will keep coming, because however crap our state support systems get, they still provide a better life for these people than they'd enjoy by staying at home and working all hours. And most of them can and do work. And in the end, they're human beings too, so we have to be careful in how we talk about them as its a small step from words to deeds. E
