I think for the preservation of endangered wild life, hunters should from now on be licenced to hunt illegal immigrants instead of wildlife. How's that for two birds with one stone?
Will they have a two tag limit? 3 or 4 maybe?

Popeye has what i believe to be an honestly held view. i disagree with it for several reasons, as i have posted. However, to cut him off from debate is to deny the possibility of change. Essentially it is to give up, a surrender.
Never give up.

You are correct. I stand corrected on this point.

Expecting someone to face the consequences of causing a death while driving at 112 mph isn't being self-righteous, judgemental or moralistic, it is expecting someone to take responsibilty for their actions. If someone is old enough to drive, they are old enough to know that driving at high speed can cause accidents and death through criminal negligence. It's the same as any other crime. Accidents happen and no one should be condemned for an accident but driving at such a high speed is pre-meditated and criminal.

1) shooting off the whole magazine of a fully automatic assault rifle in the desert, and shooting someone dead whose presence you were not aware of
2) shooting off the whole magazine of a fully automatic assault rifle in a crowded mall and shooting someone dead

can any of those who dont see the car incident as being criminally negligent, tell the difference between the above two scenarios?

now, a slightly harder question perhaps; again, try to spot the difference with regard to the degree of criminality of each scenario; rank each scenario in order, from not criminal through to most criminal.

3) shooting off the whole magazine of a fully automatic assault rifle in a crowded mall and shooting dead
a) a citizen of your country
b) a child of your country (not yet a citizen)
c) a citizen of another country, in your country legally
d) a citizen of another country, in your country illegally

if you answered d-c-a-b, or in fact ranked these acts at all in the way mentioned, I worry for the world we live in.

Hi pahunk - dont worry, I know its not anywhere near as bad as I'm supposing and that most Americans are really nice people!

I also understand the thing about illegals - we had one of our German partners go bankrupt because he was fined for having illegals in the trailer of his truck and the bastards had cut their way in and then got housing and benefit here whilst they were being processed. Hardworking guy gets screwed, illegals get no penalty at all. That was a few years ago now though, and things are different now.

Still there's a lot of groundswell antipathy against more and more immigrants of all sorts (illegals, asylum seekers and economic migrants) here - not because of racism, but simply because the country is full. We're running out of drinking water for goodness sake!

E

population in the USA is 300 million. if amnesty passed- they expect- 66 million more. i noticed abit of a strain going from 250 million to 300 million. we could very well be the last generation that lives well. my brother went to Las Vegas. when he seen how the construction trade was there- he said he could not work that cheaply. he returned to Chicago for now.

i suspect most of the illegals will be wefare types. if they have full citizenship they must be granted the same programs everyone else gets. this will BANKRUPT the states, if an amnesty is passed. crunch the numbers...it mathematically doesnt add up. so that leaves those who currently are on welfare [food stamps,.med card, housing] in peril of loosing what they have. keep in mind all colors of people are on welfare. -all ethnic groups.

so what might a state do? they might say- if you had housing 12.31.06, those people may continue to be on housing. but new claim can not be approved. to an extent this is already happening. some areas the waiting list is 10 years. many counties in Pennsylvania have stopped accepting names for teh waiting list.

so this is a threat to the already poor folks whjo abide by the rules.

IMO- Mexico could and should make their country nice. then the people would want to stay there- heck maybe even emegrate FROM the usa- since the weather is nicer.

the babyboomers are starting to retire. the income of a pensioner, is seldom very ample. so we have a graying society to contend with.

we have been so fooled by NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT, and globalization, the race to the bottem.

i personally AM better off now then 4 years ago. but i dotn thank the current adminstration for that....

Hi pahunk - hear you loud and clear; same problem we have here and now. I could really do with moving house, but there are too many people for the number of houses available, and prices have risen and continue to rise. As for social housing, forget it - you might just have a chance if you registered now as a one legged lesbian Muslim who's pregnant, to get something next century or so. (not a dig BTW, but an illustration of what scores points to get you to the top of the list).

We're constantly told in the UK, we need more people to work here to provide taxes to provide for our growing elderly population. This is bizarre - we have at least one million people registered in the UK for work who are out of work - but they wont do the jobs which are available because they feel the jobs beneath them, and so immigrants come and do them. Any tax benefit from the immigrants doing these jobs is negated by the million odd people unemployed and claiming benefits, surely? With nothing much left for pensions from that tax revenue. And then, as for pensions from the state, they are ridiculously low anyway and not viable as a means of living at all, and many pensioners are being forced to sell or lease back their houses just to live. So it makes no sense whatsoever.

But still, these illegals will keep coming, because however crap our state support systems get, they still provide a better life for these people than they'd enjoy by staying at home and working all hours. And most of them can and do work. And in the end, they're human beings too, so we have to be careful in how we talk about them as its a small step from words to deeds.

...neither being a lesbian or muslim gets you points on housing lists. Disabled and pregnant does.

...no, i want all laws applied equally.....you have argued for the application of immigration laws but not speeding laws.......so yes, xenophobia. Come on Popeye, surely you don't deny this?

Philosophy, no, I'm not "Xenophoblic." How could I be living in the U.S.
Do you know of a country that is "more" diverse than the U.S.?
What I am against is illegal aliens.
It is a federal felony to enter this country illegally or to overstay one's visa.
I don't understand how it's "Xenophobic" to be against criminals in your country illegally.
And sorry but I have no compassion for any illegal alien who is injured or killed in this country.
If my government was doing it's job correctly we wouldn't be having this conversation would we?
Well, I have my opinion on these matters and you have your opinion on these matters.
Are you in favor of having so many illegal aliens in England?
And why do they all feel the "need" to sneak into Western countries?
Russia is losing population. They actually need immigration though I'm sure that they too would not be in favor of  millions of
illegal aliens sneaking into their country..
Funny, whenever "illegal aliens" comes up instead of debating things on the law the lefties always trot out "Human Rights"

It should not matter who causes the accident, and it should not matter who is dies - whether the person who causes the accident is a regular citizen, an illegal alien or a police officer, the consequence should be the same. In like manner, the victims should not change the outcome of the consequence at all. If the victim happens to be a serial killer, oh well. The consequence should still stand.

If i agree to do chores for you, Krissy,  would ya let me stay?  Well, as long as the government changes and the coulntry is a better place, i think i'd like it here.

"I don't understand how it's "Xenophobic" to be against criminals in your country illegally.

....this is not meant as a dig Popeye, but the attitude you have defined for yourself is, basically, xenophobic. To have no compassion when another human being is killed based on the legal status of their nationality is xenophobic.

"Funny, whenever "illegal aliens" comes up instead of debating things on the law the lefties always trot out "Human Rights" "

...fair point, but one easily answered.....because the issue generally comes up when those human rights are being denied. As to me being happy with the number of illegal aliens in the UK (England is but one country that makes up our union and i live in Wales) you'll probably not be surprised to learn that i am consistent in my views. The law, in all its glory, must be applied. However, where we probably diverge based on our conversation so far, is that i consider someone denying those same illegals their human rights a far greater crime. Illegal immigration is a crime, but it is a misdemeanour compared to murder or torture. To imply some sort of equivilance between the two simply doesn't work unless you go back to a draconian legal code....in which case it doesn't matter what the crime is, because the punishment is always the same. Do you really favour treating a parking violater the same as a serial child rapist? Of course not.....you know that some crimes are worse than others. In what way is sneaking into a country worse than causing the deaths of human beings through criminal negligence?

Philosophy, entering the U.S. through other than a port of legal entry (Airport Customs, Shiping Custms or an International Crossing Point ) (is) a Federal Felony.
The Feds don't have "misdemeanors."
They don't have parole either. You get five years in a Federal Prison you do five years.

O.K. if it makes you happy I'm "Xenophobic" But that word implies that I'd be "afraid" of them which is incorrect.
I'm not afraid of illegal aliens I just don't want them in my country.
I also don't want Troops in Iraq or in 130 countries around the world. Does that make me an "Isolationist?"

...fair enough Popeye, i don't know the details of the US legal system. However, i wasn't claiming illegal immigration as an actual misdemeanour, rather i was trying to point out that in my view it is a much lesser crime than denying human rights. i also have no problem with the lack of parole. Keeps things simple.
i would like you to have answer my main point though about relative degrees of severity in offences. Is manslaughter a lesser crime than illegal immigration? Should it be punished more or less severely?

Our posts crossed a bit.....oops.........xenophobia does have that phobia word in there, but i had no intention of implying you were afraid of illegal aliens. And yes, you probably are an isolationist of sorts.........it's just an honourable position that i don't agree with, there are many such arguments i don't go along with.

Philosophy, I just looked up "Xenophobia" in the dictionary, it doesn't apply to me.
I've been in 40-50 different countries and I have dual American/Irish Citizenship.
Would you care to tell us what "Xenophobia" means?
