What's your favorite place to eat? And I don't mean "at the kitchen table", you smartasses. Fast food, fancy restaurant?

Even though I am a smartass, I will answer you properly, just because you asked so nicely.  [:D]

Fast food:  Chick-Fil-A
Ethnic:  Banjara (Indian)...  Meskerem (Ethiopian)
Steaks and such:  Logans

acissej -> RE: What's your favorite place to eat? (10/1/2006 7:35:18 AM)

I have way too many favorites for my waistline (and way too many expensive favorites for my wallet), but these were the first dozen that came to mind.

High end:
Taillevent in Paris.  http://www.taillevent.com/
Babbo in NYC - the pumpkin lune are to die for.  http://www.babbonyc.com/
Bouley in NYC
Le Bernardin in NYC.  http://www.le-bernardin.com/restaurant.html.  The skate in brown butter is sooooo good.
Capsouto Freres in NYC.  My favorite place for souffles.  And that's where my husband proposed, so it has sentimental value, too.  http://www.capsoutofreres.com/
Saddle River Inn in Saddle River, NJ. http://saddleriverinn.com/
The Chanticleer in Nantucket, MA

More reasonably priced:
Takahachi Tribeca in NYC.  Good sushi.  http://www.takahachi.net/
Bangkok Garden in Hackensack, NJ.  It looks like a dive, but great Thai food..  http://www.bangkokgarden-nj.com/
Portuguese Bakery in Provincetown, MA.  They have sweet potato trutas that are orgasmic.
So Moon Nan Jip in Palisades Park, NJ - fantastic Korean barbeque.
Down to Earth in Red Bank, NJ - great vegetarian fare.  http://www.downtoearthnj.com/

<sigh> I'm hungry now.  Very cool thread, Level.

Drat.  I thought of one more.  Carabe Gelateria in Florence, Italy.  It sounds strange, but the plum gelato is incredible.

Creole cook,

Ah now you are talkin' the best damn beignets in the country Cafe Du Monde, your making me hungry for them, gonna have to plan a trip to "Na'leans" real soon now.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!! Yes the beignets are good but it was the damned coffee that got me addicted. I order it online and cannot drink regular coffee at all anymore. The best part is that no one else will drink it here. My brother peeks in the pot and mutters something about motor oil. I tell him its the hot milk that makes it. Every Saturday and Sunday morning, a whole pot juuuuuuuuuuust for me! [:D]

May I come along?

In all honesty, after spending a few days there I was in love. I wanted to move there. Then I read the paper and saw the prices of apartments in the Quarter.

jesskitty -> RE: What's your favorite place to eat? (10/1/2006 9:18:01 AM)

i consider myself to be a foodie, which is different than a conesiour. there are certain types of food i refuse to eat, which is why i downgrade myself to a foodie. i love going to resturants, new and old. i love the new atmosphere, music, the way the presentations of the menu look like, the aroma, the food, the way it taste and is presented, the drinks, the little things..i just love trying new ones out and returning to good ol ones.

my favorite new place to eat is a resturant in houston called The Hobbit Cafe. here is a small synopsis of them from aol city guide since the resturant doesn't have a website:
"Like a sleepy woodland cottage, Hobbit Cafe is nestled among the branchs of a huge oak tree. Wooden furnishings and earth tones warm the modest interior, where maps of Middle Earth and 'Lord of the Rings' artwork enliven the walls. The low ceiling, candles and small dining rooms give this cozy cafe a true Hobbit feel. Hobbit Cafe serves health-conscious, hippie food for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Hobbit is best known for specialty sandwiches, such as, Bilbo The Magnificent (guacamole, tomato, cucumber and sprouts) and Thorin Oakenshield (Tabouli and mushrooms under melted cheese), which are served on thick slices of homemade wheat bread with shredded carrots on the side. The kitchen also offers wraps, half-pound buffalo burgers and Jamaican jerk chicken, as well as daily vegetarian and vegan specials. Drink choices include fresh fruit and honey smoothies, freshly squeezed juices and a fine assortment of wines and beers"

on a side humorous note, when i go to the aol city guide and search for vegetarian resturants in houston, the first two that comeup is chuck e. cheese's.[:)]

If i have to eat and i hate eating my fave place is at home. I struggle big style to eat in front of people so a restaurant is a nightmare for me.

I kinda used to be this way too.  I still am not comfortable eating in front of people in an intimate setting, that I dont know well.  I have no problem eating with my family, cousins, aunts, uncles etc.  And Im ok in a restuarant because Im only at a table with people I know and all the other diners are sitting a distance away.  But I dont like dinner dates with people that Im meeting for the first time, though I can and have lived through them, but Im entirely uncomfortable eating with someone that Im not close to. After a glass of wine, its a tad easier.  Wonder if theres a name for this.

ohbiguy32 -> RE: What's your favorite place to eat? (10/1/2006 9:34:54 AM)

Hmmm,  How do I answere this one.  Too many choices out there.

OK,  Fast food:  Pugs Dog house.  Great Chicago style sausages
                         Home Cooking:  Holly's Kitchen
                         Sports bar type food:  Roosters
All of the above are local places in the Dayton Ohio area
Ethnic food:  Schmidts in Columbus Ohio.  Best German food I have had in a resturaunt.  And I have family recipes for most of the dishes they make.

mistoferin -> RE: What's your favorite place to eat? (10/1/2006 9:38:20 AM)

New York City....unfortunately it's a bit of a long trip for dinner though. Real pizza...gawds I miss it! And I would practically kill for a Brennan & Carr's Roast Beef Dipped from Brooklyn. Real bagels. Taylor Ham. Real hot dogs. Real deli lunch meats. Honest to goodness Italian food. Authentic Chinese. Italian bakeries and Jewish delicatessens. Grrrr....Michigan just sucks in the food department.

Here there is a little family owned Mexican joint that serves authentic food that I am fond of. Other than that I'd prefer to cook it myself.

While I also love the French Quarter in New Orleans, I just have had enough of hurricanes. After living in Florida for over 11 years I got sick and tired of having to preapre for the next one.  Here in Arizona all we have is sunshine

Yes, the hurricane thing would suck. I am just beginning to think I belong in Europe somewhere. There is a quality about my two favourite US cities (New Orleans and Savannah) that are very much old world and very European. It is something that draws me strongly.

SlaveAkasha -> RE: What's your favorite place to eat? (10/1/2006 3:37:12 PM)

I love the Texas Roadhouse for their salad, the best.

There was a great rib place in Lexington, KY.. can't think of the name..but it was a chain.  It was sooooo yummy, I am a rib expert.

There is a wonderful wing place called Buffa Louies in Bloomington, IN.. the best sweet bbq anywhere.

Any type of seafood place, is top on my list..shrimp, crab. lobster, calamari.

Border Grill in Santa Monica, CA.

http://www.bordergrill.com/BGSM/bgsm.htm

I have been known to eat three meals in five days there when I'm visiting the West Coast.
It's that good.
The food is exciting and fresh, the service is excellent and the atmosphere is super cool, dim lights, Santeria candles, blonde wood and lots of metal.
The "Two Hot Tamales" from NPR portrayed loosely in the SNL skit about the NPR radio hosts talking in double entendre about food (oh, my, those are nice salty balls...) are the owners.

(I wonder if the "BGSM" in the www address stands for Bondage, Good-eating, Sadism and Masochism?)

I am with you there, I love Europe and would love to spend more time there.  I have a few good freinds who are Chefs in France and Germany and I just enjoy sitting around in thier kitchens and sharing a bottle of wine, some cheese and a nice baguette. I also agree with you about Savannah,  I love driving thru the old town and the squares. There are some good southern restaurants in Savannah but for the life of me I cannot remember any of them. I worked at a 5 star, 5 diamond hotel on Sea Island which is about 70 miles south of Savannah,  it was a big change of pace for what was a young cowboy from Arizona
