Gah.  I can't stand it.  Japanese or American, animated or real, I can't take the mindless humor.

willow06 -> RE: Moshi Moshi Otaku Hentai (10/2/2006 2:45:39 AM)

Okay.  Tell me not to post on one of the 'serious' threads - the one about the gender of slaves.  As an anthro student, it's killing me.  Do you have any idea how many gender identities exist in the world?  It doesn't have to be a dichotomy, whether you're talking biology or society.

That was off the original topic...

Rumtiger -> RE: Moshi Moshi Otaku Hentai (10/2/2006 3:00:16 AM)

well not too off topic seeing as I was talking about how I coudlent even tell the gender of a friggin cartoon character ebfore.

jesskitty -> RE: Moshi Moshi Otaku Hentai (10/2/2006 10:38:45 AM)

wooohooo! perfect thread. i am a huge otaku, though my actual knowledge has diminished over the years. my first couple of animes i watched before actually knowing what they were called were: robotech, kimba the white lion, speed racer(oh yeah!), and possibly some others i can't recall. my first actual anime's i watched that i knew about were the toonami set(back when it was good!) sailor moon(was a huge moonie), dbz(loved that show, i know so lame right? but i'm not going to lie), etc. i've been going to anime conventions for 7 years now..but i've only been to one which is a-kon(it's in dallas, texas and apparently is one of the bigger cons in the country i've been told..i know it's the biggest anime convention in the state). i'm more into manga now and i never really was lucky to buy alot of anime. i used to read animerica so i know basically 80-90's anime but after that i'm pretty much out of it... my favorite anime's have to be slayers(wooo big slayers fan) and neon genisis evangelion of course. right now the manga i'm currently reading are: angel sanctuary(i suggest everyone that's into anime or manga on any level read it!), kare kano, doll, and some of erica sakurazawa's books and that's about it. i used to be all about the shojuo but my taste are kinda evolving so i don't know where i quite fit right now.

to make it even worse i'm the treasuer of the anime club at my university, man oh man am i big geek! but to my defense i never cosplayed before, but i'm intersted and learning about it to hopefully do my first cosplay this year...now if someone could learn how to sew for cheap! it kinda sucks when you don't have family memebers or friends that know how to sew because the sewing classes at like jo-ans or any fabric stores are damn expensive!

oh forgot to mention i am so anti-hentai/yoai/yuri it's not even funny. i'm really pissed to that all these 12 year old girls are running around at cons screaming yoai, yoai woo hoo! they don't even know what it is..and if they do it's just the bandwagon thing..you know yoai didn't just pop up in the last 5 years..:-\ and i was surprised at the undertons of bdsm(though at a-kon it's pretty light) until i was told it comes from hentai.lol oh so that's why i'm out of the loop!

willow06 -> RE: Moshi Moshi Otaku Hentai (10/2/2006 10:56:23 AM)

Looks like you go for big names in anime.  I suppose I should put what I'm into, but I'm more of a manga person myself.  Let's see... what are the latest additions to my overflowing bookshelves?  Saiyuki, Loveless, Mar, Never Give Up, Naruto, Tsubasa, XXXholic, Prince of Tennis, Hikaru no Go, Antique Bakery, D.Gray-Man, Bleach, Death Note... "Manga is crack."

Someone pointed out to me that I should check out the university's anime club.  I remember that I took a friend to check it out once, but she was intimidated by the strange people in the dark room...  I can't sew either.  *sadness*

I figure yaoi is all to the good.  If all the 12-year old girls dig it, then maybe tolerance levels will go up as they get older.  Then again, I don't know that I really want my (non-existent) 12-year old to be reading yaoi.

edited to add a couple more titles...

you guys left me behind again.

Introduce a new topic!  Umm... I'm eating oden?

Rumtiger -> RE: Moshi Moshi Otaku Hentai (10/2/2006 11:21:47 AM)

ugh

willow06 -> RE: Moshi Moshi Otaku Hentai (10/2/2006 11:24:58 AM)

Oh!  I got something.  I mentioned the concept of female supremacy to a vanilla friend.  Then I asked her if she thought men or women were superior.  She said that she believe men are in general superior.  I was kind of shocked (being all about the equality in stupidity of humanity).  When I started analyzing it, she wouldn't answer my questions... but that could be just 'cause I ask too many questions.  I kept calling her a Nazi after that...

willow06 -> RE: Moshi Moshi Otaku Hentai (10/2/2006 11:26:15 AM)

I KNOW you did not just say "ugh" to something I'm eating, Rum!

Rumtiger -> RE: Moshi Moshi Otaku Hentai (10/2/2006 11:30:48 AM)

How about this then....Japanese Food sucks! With the exception of maybe Chanko Nabe.

*gasp*  You heathen.  Why would you condemn an entire nation's cuisine?  Well, except the one dish.

Cause I've had most other world cuisines and have material to compare. How bad does your food have to be if English cuisine can beat it?

Some Flummery sounds rather charming right about now.

see? it even has a nasty sounding name that reminds you of phlegm (kinda looks like it too) and it still beats Japanese food.

Thats not what makes me pissed about Chow Yun Fatfuck.

Ah here we go.

"I hate America. I hate thier way of life. I hate thier food. I hate having to speak english. I only go there to work, and when i'm done, I go home. I dont spend any more time there than I absolutly have to. I just go there for the work." Said at a Honk Kong press conference.

THATS what makes me pissed off at Chow Yun Fat.

At least he goes home. A lot of "I hate America" types just won't go home. Oh! wait a minute they're citizens and don't have any place to go. But I'm sure France would take them.

i don't really like it. being bisexual myself and having lots of glbt friends from what i've seen is they make a seperation between yoai and actually being gay. they think yoai is okay but really being glbt is another thing.*shrugs* what cha gunna do?

well it's not really big names..it's more that's all i really know about. i read graphic novels, i don't know japanese and currently don't have time to take nor really have an interst in learning the actual languge. so i'm pretty much stuck with what tokyopop decides to give us as options to pick from. when it came to anime back then i knew about so many i wanted to pick ones i knew about and i only really got my source of info from animerica. to this day i don't really like bittorrent, it' diminishes the struggle and ownership of buying your products. you worked hard for the money or getting it, you spent months waiting to get your folks to take you to the store or to get it in your time and you finally get it. you expand your circle by looking for certain things and sharring a base knowledge of anime/manga that everyone knows. that's the old school way. not downloading it, they don't really apreicate anime nowadays i think..but that's just my thinking because they never really had to work to get it.but as stated over the past 2-3 years i'm more into manga..been into shoujo...and now it's abit spreading more towards adult shoujo or whatever that's called..don't know exact manga terms since i'm still new to it. but i love love love yu watase, she is genius! peach girl disapointed me majorly, after reading made in heaven i wanted my 20 bucks back. i thought pita-ten was just to cute but a sad ending..i get really emotional and cry, laugh, etc while i'm reading.lol

i've herad of everything you said but antique bakery..anime/manga..crack is cheaper right?  personally though most of them are outside of my genre so i guess that's why i don't really look at them.
EDIT: wait i forgot to say i don't really like big names in another sense either. i'm one of the few people that can honestly say i hate trigun, i'm not into naurto, and i don't get what hte big deal is with raxaphone(sp?). i knew about rouni kenshin when i first started to get into anime 6/7 years ago because the first anime people i congregated around loved kenshin. but i didn't really get it and i didn't like it until it came on cartoon network and then i was hooked..the ending sucks monkey balls though.

What happened was I clicked on it and though I was looking at the OP.. posted then I realized I was looking at the last page..l so what I had to say was TOTALLY irrelevant!  (why do I bother trying to explain these things!)

willow06 -> RE: Moshi Moshi Otaku Hentai (10/2/2006 12:56:17 PM)

Yaoi by definition is pointless fluff.  I have yet to see any that reflects reality.  Though if there is a place where yaoi happens in real life, I'd like to visit.

When it comes to the new generation of otakus (as it were), I think it's just global communication at work.  I mean, getting anime and manga was a struggle back in the day, but now you have kids (and adults) wanting more of it over in America.  From personal experience, getting the stuff in Asia is just a matter of walking down the street.  Plus, there are millions of titles that don't get selected for the 'mainstream' over here.  Doing the online thing can get materials out to more people.  Plus, I know a lot of them work hard to provide quality scanalations and all.

I've always had a pretty random taste.  I mean, I like some shoujo titles, but most of it makes me cringe.  Artwork to my tastes can make or break a title.  Then again... Watase's stuff is all the same!  I was a fan of Fushigi Yuugi, but come on!  All her works are the same.  Ditzy girl with love interests that look like Tamahome and Hotohori (glasses optional) and the hijinks therein.

I feel like crying when I think about how much I've spent on this stuff.  But I'd probably be spending the money on books anyways.

And I totally agree with the RK ending critique.  Nothing like a half-@$$ed ending to ruin a good series.
