I think one of the most confusing things for new submissives is the term training.   They seek a  Master/Mistress to train them.  Just train them.  There are programs that charge to train slaves/submissives.  While one can learn some of the tricks of the trade and a few mannerisms.. does one size fit all?  Have any Dom/mmes had to REtrain behavior learned form said authorities and "professional" trainers?

For those who have been previously "trained by a mentor" and set out into the real wold- did you find it accepted or  just time lost when it came to application? Or were you happy just to enjoy the fantasy of "being trained"?

This is exactly why I never use the term "training".. I prefer "ownership"

yes i have run across this alot. although there are training programs, self improvement classes and wonderful books out there, true training comes from your Owner, i have had 3 Owners in 16 years and no two Owners are the same, nor are their expectations, rules or protocols. there is not a magical pill, book, tape or scene that instantly makes you a slave or submissive...just like there is not one that makes you a Master, Mistress, Dom or Domme. the phrase "seeking a trainer or mentor only" should be revised to "seeking information about the lifestyle" or "seeking self improvement" you can train all you want, but how do you know that is what your future Owner will want?

As much as I abhor symantics, I think that there is much confusion about the definition of training. I think some that are new mistake training for education.

Personally, I did have a Mentor/Trainer. He taught me what was going on from the Dominant perspective, at least from His. I was also trained in the subtle art of protocol in His home.

None of this occurred before I was educated. He nipped that right in the bud. I was required to be educated about what I wanted to learn. In order to do that, I had to know what was out there. Looking back, it makes sense. It was akin to picking a major in college. He had no interest in training me for someone else's use. He was training me to take joy and find fulfillment in all that I do within this lifestyle. He trained me to take the things I want and leave behind the things I don't. Of course, He was encyclopedic about safety.

Most of all, He trained me that the lifestyle is a subjective experience. So, no, I did not require any retraining when exploring on my own.

In my opinion, training is ongoing. It's a learning process. Learning is a process that begins with birth and ends with death.

Training, in my opinion, is important to arriving at an understanding of expectations of proper behavior, attitude, and preferred methods of serving. One person's veiw of what is acceptable and preferred will not match that of everyone else.

There will be different expectations of a slave/submissive regarding proper behavior, attitude, and preferred methods of serving. For that reason, i don't subscribe to the idea that one dominant person can train a slave/submissive to behave and serve another dominant person's expectations unless they are already well aware of what that dominant's expectations and preferences. They may be capable of just scraping the surface, ... maybe.
