How many Doms here perfer to make there own torture toys versus buying them? How many subs perfer for there Dom to make the toy instead of buying it or do you like to make the toys for your Dom to use?

It'll be interesting reading your replies.

I'm more the mechanic in our household. So he gets the idea and I'm commissioned into making it.

I sometimes have really good ideas, but not really being the crafty type, except when it comes to carpentry for which we have neither the space nor proper tools, we tend to leave the ideas in the hands of people that know what they are doing.

We use mostly household objects rather than spend money on specialty items, except for a few insertables.

I build my own for the most part. Usually working in leather, wood, and Lexan. As well as the occasional electrical toy. I find it easier to get exactly what I conjure up in my mind that way. I also supply items to others.

i would love to be able to make floggers and stuff. Some of the floggers are pure works of art. i hope that someday i'll be able to learn. As for the furniture Master has the ideas and the skills. Unfortunatly we don't currently have the tools or space. someday

The reason why I made the thread is because I myself perfer to make my toys. One I like being creative and two it's cheap.

With $20 I can make about 10 floggers with Home Depot supplies. PVC pipe, tape, clear vynal tubing and yala. You have a nice flooger with a good and naughty sting. Rope and chain is also cheap. The thin bendable wisk wire you can buy at $0.35 a foot. It's good stuff for wire floogers and small wisk brushes among other things. Zip ties are interestingly fun to work with as well. But if you want any more of my creative ideas just send me a message. As for everyone else, please continue to respond to my thread as I am curious.

I enjoy putting the time and effort into making something Evil. I've made a spiked paddle, a twisted rawhide cane, a wire flogger, my cross and bondage table, and a few other things that would be best categorized as "Other". I became very submerged in what I was doing....it was a very peaceful process.
I'll admit that most of the toys in my arsenal were made by someone else, but there is something to be said about the toys you make yourself.

i like homemade gear and making my own gear... it's fun and economical to make and some of my most cherished items are amateur crafted... there's a lot of plusses to making your own gear, the fit can be customized, unique materials can be unearthed and used and what's more enjoyable than creating a new toy with the thought of it being used by another on yourself? unless the thought is on the other side and it's created with the joy of using what you've made...
~grin~
great post FangsNfeet, thank you...

sincerely,
merry

M. Fangs-
Wow- a command performance- I am flattered, especially by the company I find my self in!

OK- Make then or buy them?

I mostly make them. When I started doing this stuff, you couldn't buy a flogger, even in San Francisco, so alot of the tools in my quiver are homemade, either by myself or by friends. Some are 'found items' or 'prevertables, but I only own two store bought floggers- my Big Heavy Elkhide, and a terrible little one I won as a door prize.

I make collars and cuffs- though my everyday working cuffs were bought at NYC Leathermen in '88 or so. I was looking at the cuffs, and wanted a pair but they were all too big- I asked if they made them smaller and the big heavy leather bear behind the counter turned to the other and said "oh- he wants girl cuffs!" distainfully. they threw a box on the conter, and sure enough, it was marked 'girl'.

The first thing I made was a blindfold- soft yummy suede and black- I almost cleared it once, but decided that having it marked by twenty years of tears was too cool to clean<g>.

I have made some whips of nylon- small snakes and one long (fourteen foot) bullwhip. they suck, but the little ones are handy. I still use my first two floogers regually (they are the light colored ones- oil tanned elk (very versitile). the rest are made of Nylon cord (gutted or knotted or doubled) vynal lace, or leather thong. I am sort of a minimalist- but I can work quite a scene with these, and get any effect I want. I like having made them and having had them so long.

Stay warm,
Lawrence

I prefer to make My own. It is almost as if I am making a gift for My submissive. More personal and I can also make whatever it is too suit the size and flexability of My sub.

I make about 95% of my toys. I like the rough look . May not look pretty but then most of the time your blindfolded, so you wont see them anyway.

You know I like the idea of making my own toys and I have in the past made quite a few of my own. Reason behind it is I get to make it how I want it to be. Not to mention hello its cheap. I am in the process of desiging, on paper first, a bench that has so many fun things that can be done on it including Electricity play, that way when I am ready to start building I will know exactly how its gonna be even before I put it together. But I am also a buyer of good equipment. If I like how something is made of course I will put the money to the seller. For I know that the person selling put a lot of time and effort into such equipment.

why so surprised that most of us try to make our own? We know what we like and how we want them to be.

I've made a spreader bar and i've lined cuffs and made some specific length chains (with clips) for certain aparatus but on the most part i purchase.

I just love shopping, LOVE it.

Cant resist wandering the shops, running my fingers over stuff, embarrassing my subs in front of sales assistants by purchasing a massive dildo in their presence, taking the stuff home, breaking it in, deciding which sub to try it on first, getting the feel for it.

I've always loved shopping, this BDSM lark has just expanded my shopping experience

I enjoy shoping with my sub watching as well. It scares her from time to time. Especially when I start picking up the extra large paddles and a bug zapper.
